Tilson - hope I am wrong

Hate this time of year where all kind of rumors start floating about and we end up having games of chinese whispers.

+ there is no way I will traveling to any other part of the country to see his bum.

:D See, he's here for life really!

Tilly has only played and managed in the lower leagues. Imo it's the reason he hasn't gone to a bigger club.
I also think that it is for this reason that he constantly gets out thought tactically by oposing managers!

Matrinez has only played in the lower leagues with Wigan & Swansea, and David Moyes never palyed at the highest level as far as I am aware. Furthermore Benitez & Wenger hardly played at professional level.

Nor did Big Ron Atkinson, if memory serves me right he spent most of his career at Oxford playing in the lower levels (and non league?).

Also, Mourinho had very little playing experience before going into management and Lawrie McMenemy only played non-league football.

Conversely England's best have often failed to achieve in management including Bobby Moore and Bobby Charlton.

But at least Sir Bobby of Chigwell brought us Richard Cadette...

so he has been constantly out thought tactically while winning the league two play offs, the league one championship, two ldv finals, reaching the league one play offs, followed by an 8th place finish, yes we got relegated from the championship, but I dont think he was out thought, we were out of our depth to be honest, he is our best ever manager, the facts speak for themselves

Martinez is foreign and therefore exotic. Spanish is all the rage in football (eg the belated love affair with Iniesta, Benetiz's goatee, Spain winning the Euros etc). If I was a neophiliac, I might go so far as to suggest Spain was the new Brazil. But no-one knows enough about Spanish football and so just assumes he must have been good as he played for Zaragoza without ever checking how many times he actually played (5).

Benitez and Wenger all got their jobs on the basis of their foreign CVs.

Moyes didn't play at the highest level, although he did play at Celtic.

All fair points (although I've been an Iniesta fan for years ;) )

I remember Allardyce saying that if his surname was 'Allardicio' he'd have got offered a 'big' job long before he eventually got the Newcastle job.
