I personally think none of this moaning would have started if the club has simply held their hands up and said they had made a mistake (new ticket system before tested, no online ticketing) but by blaming the fans it has got a few backs up. How dare we turn up on the day expected to get in before kick off

well knowing the club as they should it was a bit optimistic.
Look would you turn up at the cliffs pavilion 5 minutes before a show. Whilst the club were at fault I think the mind set of some fans needs to change. Still an apology would have been good PR.

Well Mike, to change the words of Messrs Rubin and Jobson a bit,

"If you don't like it you could always stop going"

Oops I forgot you already have.......

Its easy to criticise if you never attend Roots hall and post comments from a beach in Spain, maybe if people actually saw what happened and had closer interaction with the Club they might come up with a more realistic and worthwhile statement!!

Besides, criticism is a necessary evil in every vocation that we just have to learn to deal with, not roll over and throw in the towel when somebody complains.
Exactly!

There would appear to be more than this than simple criticism from me ...

Well if there is more to this, then I appologise for my outburst.
It just seems a hell of a lot of moaning going on and that the club cann't do anything right.
also, if there is more to this, then why don't they just say 'right, we can't be arsed no more, so we're stopping the Podcast' instead of creating a load of tension.

I'm not objecting to you criticising the club; I'm saying it's sad, bitter and childish to suggest that by producing podcasts for fans, the club won't take on board problems arising from Saturday.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but does Dave have responsibility for ticketing arrangements at the Hall?

That said, I'm at a loss as to why they've suddenly pulled the plug... seem very over-sensitive to me.

Mike,

I'm sorry but I'm inclined to agree with Jumbo, and plenty of others on this. You are the font of so much knowledge and a useful source of relevant information, either current or historical and SUFC and footballing matters.

You are also extremely vocal in what seems to me to be a constant battle to try to get one over on a club whose off the field efforts, while no means perfect, are a testament to the hard work that has gone in through (in no particular order):

a) Efforts of the club directors and officials
b) Efforts of those sub-contracted by the club
c) Specific efforts of our very own Scriven
d) Comments on this and other SUFC independent boards
e) Direct requests, suggestions, letters to the club
f) The SUSCT
g) Anyone or thing else I've left out

As I said, things are by no means perfect and mistakes are being made. I have no problem with pointing that out but not once in the last few topics that you have whinged about have I seen anything REMOTELY constructive in your comments. No doubt you will find 3 dozen examples, provide links to them on here and prove me wrong, which just about proves my theories right. The theories being that a) unless it's Mike's view it must be a wrong view b) Mike has to have the last say.

There is a danger that this will descend into a puerile argument and I'm trying to avoid that. Suffice to say that it would be much better if you could get off of your soapbox and get your very wise and knowledgable head working towards something positive.

Over sensitive!?! All I can see is a close team of back room staff working hard with each other to provide an efficient service.

What is wrong with Scrivs sticking up for his work colleagues! After all work else will stick up for the club?

All I can say is how would you feel if people were making gestures about you being sacked, I don't think its a very nice thing to read so maybe just maybe he has a right to feel strongly about certain comments!! And why should he work hard and bring new initiatives (Podcast) if he is going to get abuse....

It's only my opinion, I too might be wrong. There is a lot of criticism but this is a public forum and during the better times with the club on the field, the focus is on the running of the club off the field.

Massive steps have been made to sort this club out over the last 3-5 years, because it was in a shambles. This is happening but errors do occur which are discussed to pass the time of day more than anything.

There is a lot of good stuff occurring at the club, Ron has been fantastic to be honest. Scriv and James have also worked hard communicating the club affairs to the fans and bringing in new technology. I haven't got the foggiest about this podcasting but it sounds useful to those in the know, so it seems a shame that it is stopping. Keep up the good work fellas though.

I just think a witch hunt has begun on this board over a jokey comment, things have got way out of hand IMHO!!

olvis, I think this all got going because someone had a few loads of criticism to blast at the commercial department, not all of which is even dealing with the commercial department (ie ticketing, refreshments, etc).

I also agree that this is not a flawless system here, but I think sometimes people forget that we are a pretty small department and we can't possibly get to everything.  Last week was absolutely manic as we tried to get everything ready for the Family Bonanza Day, and I think the number of people who showed up on matchday caught the ticket office off-guard.  Hopefully they will be ready for it next time.

That said, we all work very hard here to make sure we put out the best event possible and to pack Roots Hall as much as we can.  But like it's been pointed out, its not a flawless system and the few of us here are doing the best we can.  Unfortunately our work occasionally gets undermined by those who think we're rubbish.

Suddenly realise I'm being dragged right into this when trying to act as peacemaker!!!

As I said in my last post I am appreciative of all the efforts of the guys at the club - yourself included American Shrimper as I am assuming you work at the club.

I view this board as almost being like mates in a pub having a moan or celebrating something that's happened. Bottom line is I just hope noone takes to heart comments that are made in this environment. There can't be too many fans that are really unhappy with our glorious club at the moment.

Keep up the good work!

I'm staying out of it now!!

I think this posts sums up the club best, those who do work in the department are trying there best but need extra resource and better managerment. These two things will cost the club. RM isn't a stupid man and im sure he has done some simple sums, why pay more when the profit generated from the extra income wont cover the extra cost.

We are football fans which makes unlike any other consumer (how many people would go back to the theatre if they had to queue for an hour then not get any refreshments at halftime). But being a football supporter we get negeclted as the powers that be understand that we have SUFC in our hearts and turn up regardless the way we're treated. For this reason we get exploited like already previously mentioned by a number of other members in this post.

Just been on the phone to get Gillingham tickets.
the new 0844 number is barred from office newtorks ;-( so I used the old numbers.
Luckily as I have access to 5 telephones I was able to ring the number on all 5 and listen to see which one answered first in the hold/queue system.
12 minutes later (which wasn't bad I suppose) The first phone to pick up was the last phone I used ....ooops.
Anyway, got tickets.

olvis, just to clarify I mentioned your name as you were the previous post. I wasn't referring to your comments, but to prittlewellshrimper's who started the topic...

Tried to cover some of this on the Podcast poll. So apologies for any repitition.

James came down to Southend from London on his day-off, called in favours from the likes of Nick Alliker and then you have your Podcast FREE!
Free to the club,Dave, the fans, etc. Cost and time to SUFC=nil.Dave did it in his own time aswell.

What follows, a wave of crticism. A fan contributes, no pay back that I am aware of,Dave did it in his own time aswell.

Why bother?

XS/Mike, I don't grasp your posting from Spain, and some of the rest of you don't seem to grasp basics like a fan putting together a Podcast idea is unrelated to the tickets shambles.

Please think before you post and ask yourselves if you would describe someone of having no 'backbone' if thet were stood in front of you rather than from the safety of hiding behind a keyboard?

The ulitmate answer to problem of the queues.

Then that will start another moan about not getting our new swipe cards yet, or the fact the paper ones have not been shipped if there is a problem with the swipe cards.

Oh the joy to be a shrimper.
