I've read with interest the comments re the ticket farce on Saturday and The Clubs immediate defensive response . 1. A family member went to the new ticket office during the week to buy a ticket for the Tranmere game . He was the ONLY person in there at the time and it took him almost an HOUR to buy one ticket . The Club must have been aware at this point that there was a problem with the system . 2. I arrived at the ground , as advised , early ie before 2 pm so that my 7 year old daughter ( a poss future fan ??) could enjoy the Family Bonanza ie have her face painted, see the pop music etc etc and due to the queue we got into the ground at about 10 to 3 . 3.Why do the powers that be in the Commercial / Catering Depts imagine that supporters might not want some refreshment after 1/2 time. At half time v Oldham I was in a queue for some cold drinks that moved only a couple of feet in 10 minutes in the East Green area , in the end i gave up as it was obvious that if i waited i would miss the start of the second half but i did venture to the front of the queue to seek an explanation and to let the staff know that they were coting the Club money by their obvios slowness only to me met by a snarled response and rolled back eyes and someting along the lines of only having one cold drinks machine . With the above in mind i decided not to bother trying at half time and waited for 5 minutes into the 2 nd half before trying to buy a cold drink uh uh !!! " sorry sir we're closed" . so my 7 year old had to stay thirsty and my money stayed in my pocket !! The Kiosks only have a window of opportunity to make money for 2 hours a fortnight !!! why not make it 2 1/2 ?? dont tell me they wouldnt sell enough to cover staff wages !!!!! 4. The delay on Saturday was added to by the ticket office staff insisting in taking every purchasers name address phones no.s etc to put into the clubs database. I could go on with these silly points but the point is this IF i was a first timer at Roots Hall these little things all add up to make me think twice about returning . Pull your fingers out , the standard off the pitch is not good enough simple as that .

Excellent round-up.

But I'm sure the club will ignore it. They have a super-douper podcast to do ...

Would be nice if the food outlets were open longer, that que for the East Stand - infact anywhere where i've sat is long, and i don't wanna miss the blue bells
tounge.gif

Maybe if it was open longer, the ques wouldn't be so bad at half time, and you could sacrifice a few mins in the second half to grab something, what do I know, i just work in a shop. Food getting the better of me again.

As for the ticket office asking for your address, they system won't let you print the tickets without the details, i've not used this new system, but i know on the old system it wouldnt let you override it when it comes up on the screen. I'm sure the club is aware of all the teething problems, and addressing them all to ensure this is not repeated. But this arguement is not for me to answer or defend so i aint getting involved
tounge.gif

of course they'll ignore it and also be content with attendances around 6- 8,000 max in a catchment area of hundreds of thousands !!!!!!

You'll just be branded a "troublemaker" as they sweep on through administrative ****-up to administrative ****-up, as that amatuer bloke Mick posted on another thread ...

Could be even further down the list you would have to check every club website there is first! how they can claim such a thing is beyond me!

When we start losing our best players and i dread to say our manangement team because they want to move to "bigger" clubs IE get paid more money then the fault can be laid at the door of the commical sorry Fruedient slip Commercial Dept because they have a great product IE the quality of the stuff on the pitch at the moment , and they cant sell it well enough to generate the funds that would make US that "bigger" club. Therefore call me visionary if you like but they are the troublemakers are they not???

I agree that Prittlewell's post is just about the best written and most constructive example of Saturday's problems that I have seen on this board. I know Scriven said he'll pick comments up here and deal with them but this is just the kind of thing I keep harping on about that would be perfect if addressed directly to someone with clout at the club.

Apols to PS if this has already been done. Remember this is an independent board, and long may it remain so. I can't believe I'm about to say what's coming next but we're lucky to have the Scriv connection.

There is nothing so frustrating as being stuck in a slow-moving queue through no fault of one's own. To have to keep a 7 year old amused at the same time is no joke, I know.

However...

Firstly, though clearly things went wrong on Saturday, and things need to improve, can we keep a sense of perspective on this? There are many clubs out there who's fans would love to have RM and crew running their club. Do I have to remind you just how bad things were in the past? Mistakes have been made, and mistakes will undoubtedly be made again, but surely no one can deny that we have come a long way, and RM has a track record of listening and reacting to what is said. His appointment of Dave Scriven was a clear indication that he wants this club to progress off the field as well as on it, and yet from some of the comments you'd think Anton Johnson was back.

And Mike, people go to a lot of trouble to try and do innovative and progressive things for this club. People like James do it purely for the love of Southend United. This constant sniping, dressed up as humour, is Sooooo boring. Why don't you try to show a little appreciation, and if you can't manage that, then at least a little restraint, eh?

Oh okay. Now I can listen to "the world's SECOND (and maybe even THIRD) dedicated football club podcast" without having to download anything (such as with the help of ShrimperZone) I'll lay off ... perhaps ... it's the exclusivity claim that I find sooooo boring, especially when it blatently ISN'T exclusive!!

If you go back Mike and search through the original posts you will see that we actually said as far as we have been able to tell it was the first podcast by a football club but we'd be happy to state otherwise if it was ever proved not to be.

I posted instructions on how to download the MP3 files without having to set up the RSS feed.

If you want to download the podcasts but you can't be bothered to set up the RSS feed you can do the following:

1. Click on the RSS icon on the official site. This should bring up an XML message. You can collapse and expand the message by clicking on the + and - symbols.

2. Between each pair of <item> </item> tags is a description of the content and of each podcast plus a link to the a link to the podcast MP3 file.

3. The link to each podacst MP3 is between the  <link>......</link> XML tags. It will look something like:

mms://video.premiumtv.co.uk/southend/podcast/Pod 5905.mp3

3. Cut and paste this link into your browser.

4. Job done.

What the Club actually claimed was that &quot;with the launch of Southend United&#39;s Podcast they become the first Football Club around the world to join in the revolution&quot;.

Proof delivered that in fact that claim is incorrect and misleading:

RBS Podcast Archive

Bayern Munich have also been offered podcasts since July.

In the UK, Nationwide Conference South side Havant &amp; Waterlooville have been offering podcasts since the summer.

There is a Chelsea site that has been offering podcasts since the beginning of August, pre-dating the SUFC version, so it&#39;s not even the UK&#39;s first, and - shock&#33; horror&#33; - they both offer an MP3 download ...
