Three clubs interested in Adam Thompson

Evening Echo

The News
SOUTHEND United centre-back Adam Thompson is attracting interest from another League One club and two League Two clubs as he awaits news of another contract offer from Blues.

I wouldn't be concerned if he left, I don't think he is good enough for League One. Barrett and Bolger is our best partnership, I would even prefer Prosser to Thompson. He would be useful as back up, no more than that. If he goes he would be easily replaced.

You are kidding!! Easily our best central defender before getting injured and far better than Prosser.

I'll be extremely disappointed to see him go

Sorry can't agree with you. I think that should he stay he will be our best CB. His form was excellent prior to his injury imo.

Madness to let him go...............He has'nt anywhere near finished his schooling and progression. A lot more to come from him and he will learn from Barrett.

Decent prospect but his positioning is appalling. We could do better.

I like Thompson and think he is a good prospect. Of course, if we can get better (i.e. Alfie Mawson or Louis Laing, both available) then I wouldn't be sad to see him go.

I really don't think Barrett will start for us in league one as I would start either prosser or Thomson alongside Bolger, think Thomson will be missed if he goes but it's all about opinions and Mr brown who starts the season, I think Barrett lacks that bit of pace in league one even tho he has the experience.

Like Bolger he's young and only going to improve, preferably we should be trying to keep him. Prosser is only going to be back-up at this level, and Barrett whilst a legend and excellent last season is getting on and I can't see him being first choice all season. Would like us to keep these 4 defenders and add a CB experienced at this level in his late 20s.

Barrett and Bolger finished the season on a high, both in confidence and form. I think they will be pencilled in to be the starters at CB unless injury or a loss of form pre season dictates otherwise.

I'm on the fence with Thompson. Yes he improved but he has never filled me with any real confidence, his position as stated above has always been very suspect. I question whether he's good enough for L1 but then again the lad's only young and reminds me of Prosser in that he made a slow start with us but has got better. I never had any confidence in Prosser for those first couple of seasons but now I have no worries when I see him pull on a Blues shirt. Hopefully Thompson will stay and continue to progress in the same way. If he goes then he's certainly replaceable.

i think it's gonna be a case of who get through a good pre-season injury free and who looks best along side Bolger, don't think we can afford to lose any players at the moment as we need bodies in more than ever at moment, expect signings to be made early July at latest.

Interesting, this whole centre half debate. I think Thompson has the most potential of the lot, and clearly I'm not the only one if there are 3 clubs in for him.

Clearly he is young and has potential ,why would you want to lose him, under Barrett he will only learn more, myself i hope he signs a new contract with SUFC not an opponent.

I reckon its Mansfield & Pompey from League Two. Both are making decent signings. Two keepers joined Mansfield today (Scott Shearer & Brian Jensen). Pompey have signed McGurk from Burton & Adam Barton who was released by Coventry.

The League One team, I think, is Gillingham.

I think the defensive record when Thompson (and Prosser) were replaced tells a bit of story to be honest. Neither big enough or good enough at heading for me... that said for a lower league CB he is OK with the ball on the floor
