This has to end…

Sorry to bring the tone down after such a memorable night but this issue just has to sorted out.

Whos side are the club and stewards on?

Why oh why were the away fans (again) allowed to stand for the entire game?! It seems as if the club are really shooting their selves in the foot by letting them stand. It’s a fact that it’s a hell of a lot easier to generate an atmosphere and a huge amount of noise when your standing and last night bar the last 15 minutes Norwich made it seem like THEY were playing at HOME!

If its not bad enough we give them the whole of the north bank (The BEST stand by FAR for making noise, IMO we should give em the south lower and let us have the north bank back) but we allow them to stand for 90 min! why are the club so insistent on being so strict for us and not them? Surely if the FA decided to take action on away fans standing at roots hall it would be us that got fined (The club’s responsibility to ensure everyone sits in the all seated stadium) and not their respective clubs?

Its not like that at all stadiums, when we went away to forest last season for example they were incredibly persistent in making us all sit. So why ok at the hall then? are we short of stewards?

The club seriously need to sort this out – the noise Norwich generated last night was deafening and its going to be like that all season. They took the **** last night.

If its too big a job to employee more stewards and make them all sit down like they do us, just take their f%&king roof off! The club need to stop mothering the away fans and let them do as they please, this one rule for us and another for them needs to end before we’re vocally embarrassed by any more teams.

Totally agree STiD but perhaps this should be moved to 'The Feedback Forum' as I feel this is one hot potato that will run and run.

Mods???

Most teams bringing 2,000 fans will make more noise than us.

But we must have made some noise as on Norwich official site match report it states, "Gallagher had to be sharp to get down low to punch a long range shot from Maher away as the Roots Hall crowd began to raise the roof"

As for standing why was the message on the tannoy just directed at a few standing in the West Stand, when all the Norwich fans were standing in the North Bank?

Surely walking to & from your seat before, during & after the match is more dangerous than standing still. We should ban people walking to their seats & everyone must find an alternative method in getting to your seat.

It shouldn’t run an run though… its needs to be nipped in the bud. Hate to sound like a school boy but ‘its just not fair!’. I really hope the club read this and take action – just chuck 50 or so of the black-jacket-bullys in there to sort them all out. they can be as heavy handed as they jolly well like on em!!

Club – if you are reading this I can assure you that assuming Cardiff (next home game) will seat nicely in their seats will not work! Enforce the rule on the,m like you do us and make Cardiff the first game! Preventing total embarrassment live on Sky.

Again I totally agree. Perhaps the only way to enforce the regulations regarding away supporters is to over staff the away section with stewards, eject half a dozen who don't respond correctly to requests to remain seated and then the others just might get the drift that the club isn't fekkin around.

Repeatedly requesting the away support to remain seated clearly isn't working and a more radical approach is now needed. ie, chucking the knobs out!

Let's have some perspective here though: I remember going to Kenilworth Road a few years back and the stewards tried to make the huge Southend following sit down in their seats for much of the first-half until eventually they gave up. I would assume that this is what is happening at Roots Hall at the moment. Also some people should be reminded that we have plenty of moans from people about not being allowed to stand at away games; pot kettle and, perhaps, black?

if the super hard stewards can make 9,000 southend fans sit down at roots hall why cant they make 2,000 away fans do the same?

The club need to get tough

that was because even us smaller chaps couldn't physically sit in the seat space available!

The point is Mike is that if we can get away with it at away games then so much the better, we will - just like Norwich did last night.
I've been to many away games where the stewards have enforced the rules and in fear of being ejected I have kept my arse firmly planted in my seat.

There will never be a happy medium between how we are treated at away games and how we should treat those visiting The Hall.

I understand your point entirely but feel it's more pot, kettle, slightly off white TBH

Also, and more importantly, why were there Naawich fans in the home end and nothing was done?! (even though the stewards were completely aware of the situation!)

If any stewards read this I shall happily buy you a ticket and take you to west brom. Not only am I pretty sure we will have to seat in our exact seat but I should imagine if we so much as think about standing we will be shown the gates…

BRING YOUR NOTEPADS

Re West Brom. With the tickets for Sat came a note from WBA warning away supporters not to continually stand.

Do SUFC send out warning letters to away fans? If so, no excuse for them not to get booted out is there?

I had 4 Norwich fans next to me, there werent there after the second goal went in, as they were shouting and celebrating, thought a fight was going to kick off with the bloke infront of me started having a go, they were escorted to the away end

2,000 away fans who have seen their team go form 1-0 dowm to 1-3 up and seen their first away goal for yonks are going to make more noise than 9,000 somewhat dejected home fans, no matter where you put them in the ground..Who was making the most noise for the last 15 minutes.. and who ws making thr most noise at the end..?

...
As for the standing, I guess it would seem to make more sense to leave things alone bearing in mind the numbers involved rather than dragging people out of a beer fueled exciting evening game.. If we were away with 2k in the North Bank and 3-1 up I dont think many of us would be sitting..
Making home fans sit is easy as you can ban them for a season rather than lob them out for a game.. Also do the Old Bill want 20 plus disaffected footy fans wandering around outside.? ..
Away fans in the home end will always happen when the away allocation is sold out.. we do it at Col U and Orient.. Looks to me like the stewards handled that incident with common sense?

i prefer standing at games however, what about all the familes and people that want to sit at the game!

is it fair to stand in front of them? let the away fans bicker!

only solution is to have a standing area . not really a big point anyway i feel.

There is no way there will ever be a standing area and I am not asking to stand up like them (although I would love to, i would be fight a lost cause) I am simply asking them to sit down and abide by the rules like we have to.

It is a huge issue – when standing its a lot easier to make noise and if we allow them to stand and not us we are putting ourselves at a disadvantage at OUR ground. Its embarrassing.

At one of our many steward/security training sessions over the summer, one of the matters discussed was standing in the away section and Chris Baker's response will not be to the liking of many posters before me I'm afraid.

In short, away fans are not our responsibility and as long as there is segregation between home and away, we are told not to do more than monitor their activities and report in the post match debrief. I have no idea whether this decision is an internal one or comes from FA Guidelines so don't shoot the messenger.

Unless SUFC complain to the FA that NCFC fans (as an example) would not be seated or otherwise misbehaved, despite the best efforts of the stewards/security in that zone, nothing will happen. It's not very pro-active I agree in sorting out the issues for home fans, but if we followed this route... we would have to prove that we did everything within our power to enforce the Ground Regulations and/or there was a serious health and safety issue or something like that.

I can't help beyond these remarks, but as I have said many times before, talk to Chris Baker... He is very approachable and will probably give you a valid (and more accurate) reason for the differences between clubs. For instance, he might say that Nottingham Forest have 4 times the number of stewards we have... etc. blah, blah, blah. Not a great reason, I know.

The authorities can forcibly reduce away ticket allocations for clubs with fans who persistently ignore ground regulations and stand during games. In the Premiership, for example, Manchester United, West Ham United and Manchester City have all been given reduced away ticket allocations this season as 'punishment' for not enforcing the policy on their own fans. Therefore should SUFC notify the authorities that fans from Norwich City refused to co-operate with stewards and sit down - and other clubs followed suit - then the Canaries could find themselves scrambling for fewer and fewer tickets for away games. That's the theory, anyway ...

What is all the fuss about?

Great away followings are contributing to a great atmosphere.
As reported, away fans always sing more than home fans in alot of instances.

Who else on this site feels embarassed last night?

We played our part in the atmosphere.

Do you really want to see stewards wading into away fans?
I don't get this anti- steward thing, I go in the ground ,sit down during the match, never really notice them.

I don't think they are meant to be on anyone's side.

Maybe our new stadium should be all standing,it will keep alot of people on here happy but the pensioners and kids won't be going much.

Pleae sit down,shut up!
