Things you've always wanted to know an answer to...

Heres another.

If I am standing inside a train and I jump up in the air when I land I in the same spot on the floor.

However if I am on the roof of the train and jump up when I land I am in a different spot on the roof. ( I think)

Is this solely down to wind forces etc or not?

I am sure somebody will pop up the the scientific version of this...but in the first instance you are part on the train as it moves along..in the second instance you leave the train albeit it for only few moments and it carries on without you.

That's my theory anyway.

Its an example they use for spatial relativity ? I think Cyril may know this better ;)

It's kinetic energy I believe, you have the same forward momentum as the train therefore you land in the same spot. Wind forces may move you 0.01mm backwards I suppose but nothing noticeable to the naked eye.

I love my wife more than anything in the world and she gives me the horn and I love sex with her. But when I play football at a weekend and we have a shower afterwards I can't help but look at other men's penis's does that make me a batty boy?

Next question?

Come on then clever people, why when I've just had my gallbladder removed am I getting pain in my right shoulder?

The internal organs and brain don't have their own sensory pathways so the brain gets a bit confused about what it is feeling and gets mixed up with other sensory pathways in the body such as skin and muscles etc.

No actually its natural , your comparing yourself to other males , we're you an ape you would square off and possible engage in some none erotic fisty cuffs or more likely shouting and beating of chests, and then go away and shag the nearest female ..

Consider a train moving forwards at 100km per hour.

All the passengers are also moving forwards at 100km per hour as is all the air within the train.

When you jump inside the train the only force acting on you is the force of gravity. There is no force acting on you slowing you down relative to the train so you land in the same place.

On the roof of the train you are still moving at 100km per hour but the air around you is stationary. Before you jump the force required to move you through this stationary air is provided by friction (your feet on the roof of the train). These forces balance eachother so you remain standing in the same spot on the trains roof.

When you jump the frictional force is removed and there is a net force in the opposite direction to which the train is travelling (viscous drag as you move through the stationary air).

As a result of the work this force does on you you land further down the train from where you took off.

Osymandus - Einsteins special theory of relativity was illustrated by a gedanken experiment (thought experiment) involving simultaneous lightning strikes being observed by a passenger on a train - this is nothing to do with the phenomena described by DTS and his train surfing.

Yes. Most men would leave the shower early, steal his iPhone and wallet and then take the **** with his can of Lynx.

What the f**k was Norman Hunter playing at in 1974 at wembley vs Poland ??

That game was in the Autumn of '73. I think he was trying to take it off the striker then pass it, instead of biting legs and putting it into Row ZZ. Poland showed what a good side they were in the '74 World Cup by coming third. Didn't save Sir Alf's job though or stop Norman's son from asking him (the next morning), "Daddy - why have you lost us the World Cup?" :'(

Thanks for that i knew there was a train example i just couldn't remember if it was related to movement in time and space or just perception ;)
