The truth about Freddy Eastwood...

I think anything over a million is a brucey bonus, he in last year of contract we gotta take what we can.

Has Varney ever been the top scorer in League 1?
Has he scored goals for fun in L2?
Has he scored double-figures in a struggling Championship team?
Are lesser countries vying for him to have distant nationality so he can play internationally for them?

No, no, no & no. Therefore & this is not a biased valuation, Freddy Eastwood is worth more than Luke Varney!

Furry muff! As I said, I honestly dont know much about Varney. That seems to make a fair argument - how old is Varney, how long has he been a pro etc??

By the same token (and playing devils advocate), would you say Eastwood is worth more than Billy Sharp because Sharp hasnt played in the Championship?

Big fat YES.

He has though hasn't he? Albeit he played a couple of games at that level for Sheff Utd.

Billy Sharp Soccerbase stats

No, I'd say to be honest Sharp is probably worth a little bit more than Fred to be honest, his game seems a lot more rounded. He can score great individual goals like Fred can but he's also a lot sharper in the box.

For reference purposes, here's Varney's stats too!

i think freddy is better at creating goals with the right partner... and so i would value you him slightly higher than sharp and varney

£1.1m you gotta be having a laugh. If Nugent is worth £6m, Freddy is worth at least £4m.

But who says Nugent is worth that? The Preston chairman - no one is paying that as things stand. It all boils down to how much the individual club values their player, which as has been stated before, can be disproportionately higher than the actual market value.

But do we want to hang on to Freddy that badly anymore? There is a strong case this summer to be made for us needing to sell Eastwood (that's Eastwood the unhappy striker who doesn't really want to be here rather than the Eastwood we had in League 1 last time) in order to raise finance build a promotion winning team.

Freddy has been as instrumental (if not more so) in our charge up the leagues as Tilson and must be forever remembered for that. We were caught out in the Championship last year for not building a good enough team around him and realising we could no longer rely on a single player for success. This frustrated the fans, the team but most of all Freddy himself and maybe everyone needs a fresh start now.

Thats exactly what I though, I think he shot himself in the foot with that statement. If Fred does leave in the summer I suspect a few RM fans to drop off the chart....
I have to agree with you. If he leaves then he won't have done himself any favours what-so-ever!

Was thinking exactly the same. Although I would like 2+ mil for him, we have to be realistic here. He's in his last season on his contract now and we either; sell him now and get some cash to help build the squad in the future (However little it be it WILL help the club) OR Have an unhappy forward who doesn't want to play for us; isn't motivated therefore hardly scores any goals for us. End of the season comes and then he leaves on a free. We lose out on our cash (whether its a large some or little sum), we may risk getting relegated not having a motivated player scoring - and everyone loses? I know which option I would rather have. We have to think about the future guys - and not only now! Planning for the long-term is better than the short-term. I'd rather take 1 Mil for him now and let his progress and thank him for all he's done and let the club be in a better financial status than risk it all going tits-up.*

Yes, but we don't have the right partner for him now do we? Should he move to Charlton he'll have a good playing partner, we'll have the money for him and everyone will benefit in some ways; yes we will lose out on his services but we'll lose him at the end of the coming season anyway so why not cash him in now, whilst we have the chance? And just because he can create the better goals doesn't mean anything. Give a player a good enough squad and anyone will be able to score goals.

*I hope all that makes sense and I didn't keep repeating myself? It's early. ;)

I think 1.1M and 1.3M are both insults, and for that amount they can **** off. If we keep Freddy we have a great chance of going up, which is reportedly worth 3M, so why let him go for less.

Well, let's face it, they're opening bids aren't they? Wouldn't be surprised to see him go at somewhere between £1.75 and 2 million.

My view, for what it's worth, is that Eastwood is worth more than Varney as he has a stronger record overall at a higher level, but worth less than Sharp who has banged them in far more consistently for Scunny.

Charlton brought varney from crewe for 2 million today, I wouldnt take a penny less than that for eastwood, afterall varney is hardly proven.

I would have thought we could get 2 million for freddy, but if i was RM i would gamble with how well freddy will do at his next lcub and say 1.5 + 40% (ish) next sale clause. I think it may be worth a punt.

But CHEMICO no way doubting your source but you did say a few days ago. These may be very bids i.e in the last 48 hours.

How many goals has Freddy scored in the last 16 games? Dodgy back?

Big risk if you ask me.

I've also heard 1.5m is the price tag, from a source very close to the club.
