The truth about Freddy Eastwood...

The truth as we stand is that Wolves have offered 1.1 million and Charlton have offered 1.3 million.

Charlton have a gentlemans agreement with Southend that if a club should come in with a bigger offer, Charlton will be informed and if the other offer has been accepted Charlton should match the bid and it will be accepted.

It is a very reliable source, but there is no more to say on the topic. That is the latest.

cheers mate, those kinds of valuations sounds sensible to me. I can understand Charlton wanting to show their hand and declare their interest. However my worry is that SUFC value Freddy higher than that and so at the moment he will be staying here. Some would say fingers crossed some bigger offers come in and a bidding war starts... I wouldn't want us to turn down lots of offers and then have a disgrunted striker leave on a free, even if he does fire us back up to the CCC as we would be in a much worse situation than we were at the beginning of the season

i agree, £2m is definitely the price I would be holding out for... that would see us have probably about 500k to spend on new players and the rest will firm up the accounts and mean that we don't suffer too much through the relegation. I don't think we really need to spend tons... a proven striker along the lines of Hayter etc would be great, along with a couple of defenders (one old one young) and a versatile midfielder a la benno

What sort of agreement is that? There is no advantage to Southend in having such an agreement as Charlton are not bettering the bids but just matching them. I would insist that if Charlton want Eastwood they would have to outbid the other bidder/s and not just match it! As for Gentlemans agreement, we all know they count for s**t these days.

Perhaps that agreement is in place because Charlton is where Freddy would rather go - if the club he wants to move to will match any other bids then it seems fair enough to me that we sell to them and keep Freddy happy.

Well if you believe the press today, then Iwelumo is about to join on a Bosman, and the have agreed a fee of 2 million for Luke Varney of Crewe. Which probably means that Darren Bent is on his way, but seemingly that would preclude Eastwood a move to Charlton, and if rhe fee for Varney is 2 million then Eastwood should command a similar figure IMO.

Tell Charlton that I am offering £20m.

According to reliable source, who mentioned exactly the same thing as the top post, If Freddy goes to Wolves we will take a 20% of next sell on clause.

Maybe a good chance of Ron getting after 5 international caps we recieve X amount, now we know he is a shoe in for WALES!

Do we all think that Ron making that statement on the OS about an activation of a clause in Freddys contract is all a load of sh!te then? I dont think (or hope) that he is going anywhere, not unless someone comes up with some decent offers. 1.1m is an insult, I hope Ron tells them where to go.....

I said at the time, it was a dangerous game he was playing with that statement. I personally think it was a trick to try & start a bidding war for Fred. However, if Luke Varney is going to Charlton for £2m as rumoured, Eastwood must be worth at least £500k if not £1m more than him?

Thats exactly what I though, I think he shot himself in the foot with that statement. If Fred does leave in the summer I suspect a few RM fans to drop off the chart....

Not sure why people keep saying this. Why should Freddy automatically be worth more than Varney.

To be honest, I dont know a great deal about Varney, but if anyone that keeps saying that Eastwood is worth more, than I'd love to hear the difference between the two players?

Has Varney ever been the top scorer in League 1?
Has he scored goals for fun in L2?
Has he scored double-figures in a struggling Championship team?
Are lesser countries vying for him to have distant nationality so he can play internationally for them?

No, no, no & no. Therefore & this is not a biased valuation, Freddy Eastwood is worth more than Luke Varney!
