Reading? Really? Can you remember which hall you visited?

I was at Reading (from 1996, so probably shortly after you visited) and it struck me as pretty middle-of-the-road. However, different halls had different characteristics. Wantage, for example, was for posh people not clever enough or good enough at rowing to get in to Oxford.

Sorry mate can't remember. It was near the languages department.

Ah, there were quite a few near there. One of them - Bridges - had a large Muslim population (although not the majority) and made the rather unpopular decision of making the hall bar dry. That went down well....

Thought I'd revive this puppy as I'm off to uni in 2010. Looking at screenwriting courses, and I have to say, not a lot of viable options about (most of them are either too far away, like in Scotland or America, or bloody rubbish looking, like pretty much any uni up north). Currently trying to work out which would be better, Bournemouth or Southampton. Edging towards Soton right now, predominantly because of their website, which looks a lot better than B'mouth. Haven't had a chance to get to any open days though so I guess it's a case of wait and see.

Don't disregard Scotland - easy to get to, and a lot of fun. You can even fly there.

Im off to University this Saturday. Im going to Chichester uni and I'll be wearing my Southend United top with pride!

As for the Personal Statement mate, the main thing to think about is the personal statement is all about selling yourself to the university. Why do you deserve a place? Search google for some tips. A few website have some great tips that helped me write mine.

I live in Gloucester. Something tells me that I wouldn't be able to afford a flight home very often. Far easier to go somewhere closer to home and catch a train back, particularly if something unexpected crops up.

Have they had any problems with liberal activists breaking into the laboratories where they dissect the Jim Davidson and Bernard Manning material?
