The Ladies World Cup starting now!

I think VAR got it right, if that penalty was given against us I'd be fuming. The defender was a bit physical but it's nothing more than you'd normally see from a corner and Daly ultimately only went down because she backed into the defender, which the defender can't really do anything about.
That's certainly not the way I saw it, but because of your comment I watched it again and again on the highlights. She definitely didn't back in. She may have stopped running, but there's no hint of her backing in.

To me that was a nailed on penalty. I have no idea why it was overturned, so I'd be keen to find out the rationale.

We may have been a bit toothless up front today, and the Nigerians were really up for it, but their finishing was grim at this level and their penalty taking naive. Our defence was superb and when it comes to pens the England mens team could take note.

Lauren James out now for 3 matches so that's her World Cup over. What an absolutely stupid thing to do.

Job done, on to the quarters.
Nigeria were physical and fast, but not technically any good. I said to my wife that if it went to penalties I'd expect England to win as they're the better players technically. I also said I'd expect Nigeria to miss a few! (The only caveat I put on that is that England might be tired having had to play about 45 minutes with a player less.)

This England team seem to be able to grind out a result even if they're not at their best. It's not often we say that about any England team, male or female, whatever sport.

I agree. Daly stopped running and the defender not only had her hand on Dalys back but also her thigh drove into Daly and that forced her to go down. Nailed on penalty for me

I don't think the jump in the air and dive helped. I think it's very debatable and hence would err on the side of no penalty. Defo penalty at the other end though - so we've had rub of the green

Had a great view (although opposite end to the penalties).

Tough game against opponents who have been great in this tournament…well organised, physical, never stopped running. So happy that England are still in the thing (plenty of other big names aren’t).

That was my last live England game of the tournament but back again for the quarter final and Australia v either France or Morocco on Saturday (then straight into the pub after for the next England match).

Was a pen for me too however I thought the final dive was a bit unnatural. Yes it shouldn't count after the fact but I think once she saw that ref changed her mind. Nigerian penalty shout was a 55:45ish too so I think it got evened up

Fot those that watched Australia v Denmark ,how good was that pass by Mary Fowler to split the Danes defence for Australias 1st goal, She just a 20 year old with such sublime skills and foresight, that pass was absolutely perfectly weighted. Young lady has a big future. I wonder if Kev has her name on his white board.

Well England play Columbia 1-0 winners against the Reggae girls , To be honest i happy Colombia won , Jamaica never wanted to play football until they were 1-0 down , they were happy to defend ,foul do whatever they needed to do to get a draw .

May be an image of text that says laurennjjames From create mode 2m All my love and respect to @alozieee. I am sorry for what happened. Also, for our England fans and my team-mates playing with and for you is my greatest honour and I promise to learn from this experience.

Well if theres such a thing as an easy Qtr Final match ,i think England drawn the lucky straw and should advance to the semi final v either Australia or France ,which in my mind could go either way.

Found how the underdogs are performing way above anyone's expectations, Japan look superb

Hard call who will win the trophy, but England may never have a better chance, though Japan look so good ( Watch them go out next round)

Australia look good at the moment. If we both get through on Saturday then a semi final against the hosts would be a very tough ask.

A random thought while watching Sweden v Japan. In men's football I believe rings and the like have to be covered with plasters? I've just seen the length of one of the Swedish players false nails and they are like talons, at least a centimetre above the finger tips.
