The EU Referendum

How are you voting?

  • Leave

    Votes: 58 56.3%
  • Remain

    Votes: 45 43.7%

  • Total voters
    103
  • Poll closed .
De-facto.....we will not leave the single market....therefore them pesky EU rules will be there, thus brushing aside the leave voters main reasons for voting

Indeed. And what is worse is that we have to accept the EU rules around production standards, and free movement of people (to name but 2) without the ability to influence them.

I would argue that free movement is simply non negotiable with the EU any way.

That, of course is the 64,000 dollar question. The Mail this morning is seizing on the purported statements from the Finnish deputy MP and the French finance minister as the first signs of discord in the so far united European front on free movement of labour. I wouldn't be surprised if the latter is quickly slapped down by Hollande.

It's a direct quote from a statement from the National Police Chiefs’ Council Lead for Hate Crime. Not an op ed statement by that rag. It's in print elsewhere but that just happens to be the first at the top of the Google listing and the first I clicked and don't you go starting to twist what's been typed to justify avoiding the point being made and instead ask a stupid question. Of course reporting hate crime should be reported you arse. That's not what I implied or said and nor does that article. It merely states that the sensationalist claims made in the media lately are just that, sensationalist. I would have thought better of you Nap.

Let's please keep things as civil as possible. No need for name calling.

Could a cap on numbers possibly be the way forward?....
I'll answer that straight away.....Nein. There will be no deviation from the vision of the United States of Germany

Long term prediction......we will negotiate to stay in the single market, this means free movement and contributions continuing. Ultimately ignoring the referendum result, or at least the main reasons for voting leave.

I was planning on voting leave until right at the end as what you say is what I feared happening. The 350 million was always nonsense but it was in the BBC debate when Remain asked Leave how much immigration would reduce and they refused to say anything I lost faith that would happen.

I know people say it was sovereignty but a large part of leave voted on immigration as the main reason and if that doesnt change then the whole referendum has been a waste of time and both sides lost.

Exactly. But outside the EU we've now lost our right of veto. So should the EU vote to allow Turkey in (for example) we have no right of veto, and have to accept it.
Or sever all ties at that point and lose access to the free market, which I think would be more likely.

And more damaging to us. But according to Bojo access to the free market is more important than free movement of people. I would suspect that whoever takes over as Conservative leader would probably say the same.

Spot on sir....in the end there will be no winners....

Yes, probably, until them Turks are allowed to join the party anyway.

Liam Fox..........

"Any Brexit deal which includes free movement would be a betrayal of the EU referendum result, Tory leadership candidate Liam Fox says.

Launching his campaign - a world of opportunity - he says free movement is a political preference which needs to challenged.
He says people had made their views on free movement clear - "any back sliding will be a betrayal of what they decided."
He adds that the UK should approach the post-EU era with "confidence"."

He is, of course, right and anybody who thinks the Brexit vote will be the end of the Tories problems with Europe, may be a bit wide of the mark

Theres the beauty of a simple leave or stay question referendum.

Nowhere in the question does it quantify what that means, we can be out of EU and still have immigration exactly the same.

This is going to go on for ever.

So Mr Farage, who's laughing now?

:'( Are we really that sensitive that being called an arse causes offense? I call my work colleagues and mates an arse all the time in conversation and debate. I'd suggest if it offends that much the Internet isn't the place for you.

Unless we are willing to give up a substantial part of our tax base, in which case the French will find a way.

Tim Farron ✔ @timfarron Boris follows the Bullingdon playbook: you break it and someone else has to fix it

Farron's made more noise after the campaign than during it. Maybe he should have campaigned a bit harder. Positioning the Lib Dems as the anti-Tory party is pathetic at a time where he should be trying to attract One Nation Tories and non-Momentum Labour.

The tone of your reply to Naps was pretty *****. I'm sure it is within all our capabilities to play nicely.

We've got some pretty hot topics on the Zone at the moment and emotions are often likely to run high. As long as everyone is civil then it's just a better place all round.
