It worked well in the labour shortages after both World Wars, it worked well enough during the 60's. it has done quite well in staffing the NHS. If lazy, too good to work for less than 10 quid an hour Brits were not abusing the social security system there would not be any jobs for "them " to come over and take. If greedy Employers and contractors didn't break the law in order to save a few bob there would be no chances for them to abuse the system.

I would suggest that those people in this country who think that our immigration policies have not worked vote with their money. Do not spend it in a non anglo saxon shop, go only to english doctors etc.
Careful though because you will need to check who is driving your train, delivering your food to the shops etc, I would hate for you to be hypocritical in any way..........

I dont recall anyone saying that we dont want Doctors etc etc. I think everyone has said that we fully support that.

What a growing number of people are however saying is that we are not prepared to accept uncontrolled and lax immigration. We are not prepared to accept people coming into Britain that do not want to work. We want people that can improve this nation.

I do agree fully with with your comments about lazy brits not wanting to do the **** jobs but my answer would not be to flood the market with loads of cheap foreign workers but to make these lazy *******s work. If you dont like the job then work hard and get a better one.

Members of European states have freedom of movement amongst other european states. Nothing to do with immigration

Asylum seekers are looking for safety in this country , they are assessed and if accepted to this country they are accepted on Humanitarian grounds.
those who are not granted asylum are told to leave (that is the one area which could be tightened up on) if they do not leave they become Illegal Immigrants and they are just that , Illegal, they are not allowed to work and recieve no benefits, housing etc. The only money they get is from Employers acting illegally or crime.

Former Commonwealth countries have, as a part of the commonwealth, had the right to come to the "mother" land, this is a law that has been in place for donkeys years and has been used for decades to prop up our industries and fill jobs no one wants to do.

Which of these policies would UKIP or any other party actually be able to change............

It is all scaremongering to grab votes...

First off the dictionary definition of immigration is as follows "To enter and settle in a country or region to which one is not native" So an Eu citizen (But not a UK one) entering the UK is still immigration.

And if UKIP for example got in then your points on being members of European states would be floored as we would have left "Europe" so to speak.

I would also question how long we have a duty to let in people in from the former British colonies? Do the Scandanvias still owe is a debt for the raping and pillaging of the Vikings? Of course not. Again skilled workers are welcomed in my book. Unskilled are not.

But surely you can't get benefits if you are not willing to work, or are you saying that "these immigrants who can't speak english" are so well versed in our social security system to be able to get round it, yet can't learn english, doesn't quite stack up.

Does anyone know the stats for immigrants who are claiming benefits ?

Of course you can.

Immigrants come here and settle tradtionally in there own communites. People in there communites are able to speak English and can help them claim the benefits they are rightly or wrongly entitled too.

Do you think those that cant speak English just come here and sit in there front room with no income and just hope someone helps them?

The most direct route would be and of course this is a european country, Turkey or if you want a EU country then Romania or Bulgaria. Then there is at least another half dozen before the English Channel so that tired theory falls flat on it's face.

So the former Commonwealth can come here but and this is the nut tightener, we can't go there? Austrailia, New Zealand, Canada, West Indies and yes, bloody India are near damn impossible to emigrate to, I spent a small fortune on trying to get to Canada and Austrailia but their quota system put paid to that. Now theres an idea, a quota system. But then didn't the EU state a while back that we couldn't do that. Whats good for the goose and all that.

Im sorry but that is an incredibly naive comment. Sadly in this country it is possible to get benefits without being willing to work. The lip service you have to pay to get benefits is pathetic.
