The American Gun Law

We were in Florida until last Friday, and whilst there one day was speaking to a local, and the conversation turned to locals arming themselves.
According to this guy, gun crime in Florida is relatively lower than other States, because anyone can carry a firearm and use it if felt threatened.
This allegedly has lowered the number of muggings, robberies etc, because the Scumbags are never sure if their intended victim is armed and are more wary of committing a crime!.
No idea if this is a fact, but the guy seemed convinced of it.

A lot of the time in Florida you will know if someone has a gun as they are in T shirt and shorts so it wouldnt be that hard to determine. I can see that logic in colder states though.

Always felt safe when I was in Orlando but every morning you woke up to the news telling you about a shooting, my missus got a bit nervous and had to stop watching it after a few days:smile:

Precisely what Michael Moore was on about, in the TV news coverage of (mainly black) gun crime in LA, in Bowling for Columbine.

The hotel we stayed at(excalibur)just 6 months prior some bloke walked up to the concierge desk and shot his girlfriend dead then killed himself in front of 100s,Just after that event there was a gangland shooting near to the hotel resulting in 3 deaths.

Those Americans are mad.

A footnote from The Times report on the Washington Navy Yard Shootings:

A study in the American Journal of Medicine has confirmed a link between increased gun ownership and increased gun violence. The research compared deaths by firearms and firearm prevalence in 27 developed countries and tested the theory, advocated by some, that increased gun ownership improves public safety.

Without knowing more about the methodology, countries chosen and weighting systems employed this is interesting but I'm sure not the last word.

Well that statement is a bit obvious, more guns will mean more gun crime, but that doesnt mean more crime overall. There is some logic to the theory that you wont burgle a house so keenly if you know the homeowner has a gun, but on the flipside that would just make sure you take a gun along if you do. After all if you are going to burgle a house the chances are you will have the element of surprise as well.

Whether having guns makes the whole country safer or not, you certainly wont get mass shootings if no one had them, but thats never going to happen.

Have to say when I put the news on this morning my heart fell as there had been a shooting in Chicago and anyone who knows me know that my daughter April is currently working out there. Thankfully all is good but still worrying nevertheless

Not to mention the kid who was shot dead carrying a toy gun in LA.

Where's Rusty these days? Finally bunkered down waiting for the end of days?

Who allegedly ignored repeated requests to put it down, what a ****ing idiot!

They would say that wouldn't they? The interesting clip was from a witness who didn't see it but said that there was almost no gap from the siren stopping to the shooting starting. Also, failing to drop a weapon isn't sufficient justification to start shooting. They have to be threatened by the weapon.

Spot the real one.

And your point? I never said it wasn't a realistic gun (though that point isn't covered in the report) I said that the only witness quoted said that there was almost no gap between the car stopping and the officers opening fire, which contradicts the officer's statement that they asked the kid to drop the gun several times before opening fire.

Problem is when the officers arrived they see kid with what seems a very deadly weapon which if real would take the officers lives in an instant,They have a split second to either take a chance and possibly be killed or shoot .

My bloke fired an ak47 in Vegas,Devastating weapon!

He is not a very good shot if he missed.

Jesus. Am I the only one who's kinda terrified that this camel's back is close to snapping like a twig? It's going to be chaos in the states soon.
