The age profile of the squad and rebuilding the squad

It may, or may not, be a good time to refresh our minds re. the Brentford model that was considered the way forward at the time the management team - Kev, JS et al - were recruited. Note, the use of data ('moneyball") far from being at odds with this approach was in fact an important component, as were traditional recruitment methods, a B team replacing the academy and more. Of course teams have been using data ('moneyball") to a greater or lesser extent data for over a decade. It's not so new and shiny, but I guess, like all software, can be upgraded/reborn to provide an edge.

For what it’s worth I think this Case Study covers the Brentford model well, and it seems to me to be something we could still incorporate.Certainly worth a read to inform the discussion.

Not convinced we carried on with the Brentford idea - bringing in JS would indicate it wasn't the eventual decision mainly. IIRC Stan advocated bringing in Darren Robinson instead in this role and going with Still instead was an indication that we might not fully be signed up.

Back in the 60s there was the Football Combination which gave opportunities for first teamers returning from injury, those on the periphery of the first team and young trialists. Used to go to some of these games which were quite well attended and the opposition, London clubs mainly, often had star names in the lineup. Then there was also the Eastern Counties league as well. Not sure when all this finished but it certainly improved the strength in depth of the squad, even if there were no substitutes in those days.

Before any of the strikers can be judged, the pi££ poor service they get should be addressed first. Personally I think most of our (non) scoring issues come from lack of a tactician in midfield along with safety first tactics.

I would say the opposite. JS brings the ability to find lower league talent which is exactly what the system would want to develop? He is famous for locating the unpolished diamonds in the NL?
