Thanks Kev - but is a new manager needed?

Should Maher go?

Kev was allowed to bring in players when COSU first got involved last year and the majority of this season. Many of those signings have been shocking. Surely we should be seeing better by now. Reality is we aren't.

I imagine a lot of managers in this league would have loved to of had the same budget Kev has had over the past 12 months.
It has been endlessly explained how we missed out on our primary and numerous targets because of the embargo and because in the NL business is done early as contracts run to the end of June.

This year this will not be the case.

So I look forward to business being done early in the window that says we are serious about getting out of this division.

I think it's time for some brave decision making from COSU. The easy option is to let this slide on for another 6 months and the result will be the same. Kev has proven time and time again he can't change things up, on the odd occasion he has he always reverts back to his same mundane ineffective side to side, cross hit first man, static forward two.

We have, in my opinion a few players who would make the first team or most teams in this division ( Taylor, Ralph, Parillon and Gus at a push) some very good players for this level in Collin, KAF, Kendal. We should be a top 5 side comfortably with our squad, crowd levels and budget. We are underachieving massively this year.

Look at the teams who have gone up and are going up, all direct, physical sides - something we refuse to do under Kev. I've said many a time, he's probably a decent number 2 or coach but he's not a good manager at all, his " legend" status protects him.

If COSU don't act end of the season, he will be allowed to bring in more players not suited to a promotion push, along with a gem or two, playing in the same failing system, with no plan B. Come December we will be mid table again and floating in obscurity with very little to play for and another season is gone.

Bite the bullet, look at getting a more experienced manager, someone with experience of getting out of this division. Sentiment is killing this team.

It's this simple.

That's no excuse for making a plethora of bad/failed signings. All those players were Maher's choices. They weren't forced on him. Plenty of other football clubs sign players during the season who succeed. Gateshead for example deal with continuous restrictions all season losing their best players regularly and having to pick up low budget players but likely to finish above us.

Yeah, he was awful last season.

So bad that he won the manager of the season award from the league, despite missing out on the playoffs. Awful.

I’d love to know a list of manager of the season awards, and the position they finish in. Can’t imagine too many managers win the award despite not gaining promotion. I’d hazard a guess not many. Probably all awful managers too.

Last season is ancient history. This season is what is relevant and Maher has time and again shown that he is just not up to the task, never more so than the last few games where the chickens have come home to roost in terms of all the shortcomings of his tenure - signing non scoring strikers, team selection, subs, tactics, all glaringly obvious. Surely COSU must see this.

Simple answer. Failure to improve our prospects following an embargo free transfer window.
Agree - but over what timescale?
Some have suggested autumn - which seems way too early in the season for me, others Xmas, guess roughly half way through the season not too late to make a change and see a difference (better or worse?). But I think every season Maher has had a storming second half - is Xmas also too early?

What is obaringly obvious is if you dont have the tools you cant do the job Yet again this season .We lost out on the players we wanted due to the clown who thank god is no longer in our club .When COUS took over thry gpt hit with an embargo yhey did not know was forth coming . BY the time rhat ceap was sorted .The players left for the club was the players no one else wanted .Also fpr the second season running we had no proper pre season .Again thats down to the clown . I hope next season will be differant and we can start with a better and stronger squad.

IMO the final whistle on his testimonial!!!

I’m not playing a game of moving goalposts with you again.

I’m not engaging in trolls anymore, and people who genuinely seem happy when things aren’t all rosy so they can knock the manager.

The amount of disrespect for a man who has done so much for this Club, both as a player and a manager, but more importantly as a man, is absolutely criminal.

Yes, you can knock team selections, substitutions etc, but the glee in some posters when they have something to abuse Kev about is awful. SZ is a terrible place to be after a defeat, seems to be the same with a draw now. I’ve been posting less and less, and I can see numerous others are the same.

The question was asked to the “Maher In” people what would it take to become “Maher Out”. I genuinely interested in what it would take for the other way round. For some people, I think even if we got into the playoffs and won promotion, that wouldn’t be enough. Even then, we’d have a sticky start and the knives would be out.

This is the last I’ll get involved in this thread.

Simple, to play entertaining football. Winning promotion is a bonus but Kev has yet to prove he can get the team playing nicely. Last season we did well but the football was still dull.
He plays boring football and has shown time and time again he is tactically naive, for me this needs to improve. I want him to succeed however, so far, he has not and, in my opinion, he can not.

I appreciate emotions have gone beyond control but to accuse a fellow zoner of being 'criminal' and 'a troll' is surely beyond acceptable. I hope the necessary action will be taken.

All of the circumstances leading up to this season are very well known by just about everyone on here. Some have taken those circumstances into account when judging Kevin Maher, others haven't. What I find terribly sad is the vitriolic words that are used by some in an attempt to influence others. I'm no crystal baller, but regardless of votes and opinions I think Kevin will lead the team next season and I'll save my judgement of his performance until then, purely because he deserves that chance, given what he has done for the team and Club. Those that only have time for the 'now' of the game are pretty shallow in their thinking in my view, and that's me done on this thread too.

If funds for players are still limited, the cheapest option is to replace those out of contract, and make a change at the top. This would be the cheapest option, as DC would step up, and we would only have 1 contract to sort out.
This is the lowest cost, with possibly the biggest change on the field.
Unfortunately I don't believe things will change otherwise, as even the best players in the league would struggle with our set up. Look at LCP he's already looking unable to make something happen, even with the potential he has.

“Exciting” football is naive. I prefer to see a team built on a solid defence

Can’t determine that but certainly not 2025 unless it’s a disastrous few months
