Thanks Kev - but is a new manager needed?

I was told last night that the whole COSU team was there, also Barratt and Tilly. Maybe he thought that the vultures were circleing putting him under pressure and that was his reaction.
Looked to me like an "up yours" type comment. After all he went through last season to keep this team / club alive, he's probably getting fed up with all the digs and feels he deserves more respect ?

I was told last night that the whole COSU team was there, also Barratt and Tilly. Maybe he thought that the vultures were circleing putting him under pressure and that was his reaction. The commitment shown last night seemed to dispel the myth that he had lost the dressing room. However I am not sure his recruitment and methods are what is needed for success. There was an occasion in the first half when we were attacking, our back three were rightly marking the front two of Halifax. About ten yards in front of them were Morton and Husin marking nobody and about 25 yards behind the ongoing attack. Why on earth they didn't join in the attack sums it all up. Instead we had just 5 attacking players v 8 defenders. Teams like Halifax suit as as they play open football. We played well no doubt about it and it was a relief to see success from set pieces. The last goal was a common one where a team chasing the game late on left themselves wide open. Good finish by Kendall though. Despite all that I am still not convinced that Kev is the right man in the long term.
I honestly didn't see what he reacted to that's why I asked the question but he started F'ing and blinding at someone close to where I sit, but it looked to be either close to or in the directors box. It started with about 10-15 mins to go but then Maher keeps it going and turned round again swearing for no reason, as far as I could tell. Even when we scored the third goal he wasn't happy and was clearly trying to react to whoever had upset him. Just enjoy the moment! I find him very unlikable the more I see of him to be honest. The final whistle went and he was turning and glaring at the fans in the East so maybe it was a fan but I get the impression the pressure is getting to him now. I agree about the teams commitment though, I've wondered whether he's lost the dressing room at times, I think the fact it's been questioned shows how poor some of our performances have been.

Also, something I enjoyed was a bit of flair down the left wing by Husin, stepping over and doing a fancy turn to best two of their players, it was great to see. And, it shows that when you attack a game and get on top you play with confidence and have fun. I don't see how defending the whole game would build confidence in the team. I'm not convinced by Maher but I'll back him while we're attacking teams etc. I certainly won't miss him when he's gone.

Such a different character to both Barrett and Tilson as well, this isn't the first time they've attended together and I do suspect that if things don't continue to improve then perhaps that's their plan.

I get that but I think Maher does get a lot of respect, at times too much. He's had more protection than any other manager in our history I think. If anyone else was on the run he's been on they would have gone a long time ago. He's starting to lose that respect with his style of play and attitude though.

Yep. I think the turning point will be when we're playing away again. Will he revert to playing defensive once more ? I think we're safe from the drop now, so we might aswell be brave and try to grab all 3 pts until the end of the season and see if we can sneak into the playoffs

Agreed, I don't think there's any danger of going down, we all just want the hand break taken off and to go for it. Last night was a welcome change

Utter nonsense. We've lost 3 leagues games in our last 13. York & Barnet being two of those.
Yes performances have mostly been dour, but we are and have been one of the form teams in the league for quite some time now.
I am going to respectfully disagree, I am not only talking about results but the awful style of play. Maher gets more protection than any manager I can think of.

I've mentioned the poor performances. I'm more saying that managers don't get sacked when they're on "this run of form" when the run of form is actually good. We're not Watford.

There's no defending the sittingbourne loss granted.

Given the ingratitude and abuse he gets, even if from a small few idiot “supporters” during games, he clearly has the patience of a saint. Must be wonderful to have someone who once helped Sir paint the white lines on the pitch at primary school continually lecture him on what he’s doing wrong. I always wonder why fans sitting next to these people don’t politely and gently ask them to shut up.

I would far rather the passion than a manager who retreats into the dug out and hides as soon as things don’t go well. He wears his heart on his sleeve- good.

Four defeats in last 13. Altrincham, York, Barnet and Maidenhead I think. Double over Halifax and four wins against strugglers we would expect to beat. A mixed bag showing inconsistency is our downfall. Until this is rectified we are going nowhere. We need to reproduce last night's performance on a regular basis which is a management issue Maher and Co seem incapable of addressing. Time will tell.

I take your point but I think taking last nights performance away, almost all of our success has been against teams performing poorly, and he's had a lot of protection from fans and COSU. Don't get me wrong, he had some in the bank from last year but it's gone further than I ever expected personally. Chris Powell never got the same support that Maher does.

He clearly needs some anger management counselling and media training. His public persona is hardly conducive to winning friends and influencing people

Yeah and I agree with parts of what you've said as well, I'd far rather have a passionate manager than a Bond who couldn't care less! I always remember equalising on the last day of the season against Sunderland to stay in league one and he didn't react at all.

But personally I think there's an attitude issue with Maher, he clearly has patience or he wouldn't have been able to tolerate everything he did last season and before etc but he reacts way too often with the crowd in a negative way for me. He doesn't cheer and smile with the fans but if he's unhappy he's happy to turn and abuse them. He's more likely to turn and be aggressive with his own fans even when we score/win. I've seen it on so many occasions.

Nothing wrong with standing up for yourself but it feels different with Maher to me. Look at the way he behaves with the 4th officials etc. Granted they're awful but you don't see the other managers behaving like this, it's petulant.

We can agree to disagree. Do we want a nice, friendly manager that doesn’t lose his rag with idiots? Not for me. I’d rather the passion. In fact we had one of the nicest people you could meet as manager, Chris Powell. And look at how much more forgiving that made us. Not.

I honestly don't care if he is likeable or unlikeable.

Within normal bounds of acceptability then I don't care what he does in his private life or professional life.

I may be shallow but all I care about are performances and results.

I want KM or whoever our manager is to succeed and if KM can replicate both the performance and the result from last night then a new Manager will not be needed.

Pretty sure he was giving some back to a few that had given some stick in the last few weeks. But one swallow doesn’t make a summer. Play like last night against Barnet and we could have given them a real battle. Instead we attacked at the pace of my nan walking to the shops.

Tilly was there but I didn’t see Barratt personally.

Shows we can up it though. Just need to do it consistently.

And yet Kev is an amazing representative for our club at media level. Never gets drawn into anything that may harm the club during interviews and demanded respect from all his staff be shown to this club he loves. Under more pressure during Martin's reign and barely able to put out a side, somehow put it all to one side and got the job done.
Even under extreme pressure from disgruntled fans, he is slowly knitting together the formatiins of a good team through rebuilding it from last year.
Everyone keeps writing him off it seems, yet he pulls up trees through sheer effort.
Some fans will NEVER back Kev, just like in his playing days. But if he's winning most weeks, no one cares.
I think this team he has now, is settling down nicely and finding an identity. They look to battle for each other, very encouraging.

Tilly was quiet nice too and didn’t do to bad.
