Thanks Kev - but is a new manager needed?

Not a great look at all for KM today. Effectively saying fans don’t know what they are talking about and he is right and everyone else is wrong. As someone else has said on X he should leave as a legend and not ruin his legacy. Was the right manager through the tough times but certainly isn’t the right one for us to move forwards and up the leagues unfortunately.

Prolonging the agony for all of us. Deluded, stubborn and won`t change. Is it stick or twist from COSU.

A lot is being spoken about the formation with three up top or two up. The formation on Saturday was three up top wasn't it?

Maher: "Yes it was.

"People might see names on a team-sheet and assume things but we played with three up top, yes.

"Just because it's not three forwards if you want, you can go and watch Barnet and see what they play with.

"If it's one up top if you want to talk that way.

"Halifax are a team who play with two tens and that's what we've done recently too.

"But I think people get caught up in this.

"I'm not stupid and I know people have their own opinions on stuff.

"I will not change how I see the game.

"I'm going to be consistent with the messages we give the players.

His pre-match interviews are becoming as annoying as his post match ones.

Leave now Kev, thanks for last year and your loyalty, you`ve taken us as far as you can.

Always reminds me of what Peter Butler said about Dave Webb when he arrived with the team about to be relegated. He said Webb immediately knew which players were not totally committed, just going through the motions and out the door they went .
Think unfortunately this time it's more to do with motivation and tactics not getting the best out of players we have at present .The only thing saving KM is the long contract he was given which seemed good business at the time ,but has now become a financial nightmare for the consortium.
The fans singing backwards and sideways isn't a good sign with the outside chance of the play offs fading fast.
So which players do you think aren’t motivated?

I think all supporters would like to see Kev and his team successful. What worries me is the lack of "never say die" or players wanting to play for the badge. The whole team has no leaders on the pitch, no voices and certainly atm all players are just turning up without desire. I don't know what Kev says to them to motivate them. but it is not working anymore and they all look disillusioned, that is without the talk of set up and selections.

Some call for him to go and let Currie and Bentley take over but surely they are just as much to blame as Kev, they must discuss transfers and game strategy between them so i feel they are as culpable as Kev.

I really don't know what the answer is but neither does our manager atm. We get the same sound bites every week, nothing is new and the management are sadly running out of the same excuses.

People ask for patience which i get but also fans expect the team to at least keep fighting but atm we look like a pack of powderpuffs with no direction from the management who should be giving that.. It is their job! The clock is ticking for Kev, he must know that and needs to respond on the pitch where it matters.

I really don't want to hear,"it will all be ok next season" i want to see improvements now.
Cricko, Currie and Bentley are clearly loyal to their Head Coach, but this is not a relationship of equals.

It is clear they like and respect Kevin Maher and love the club, but at the end of the day Maher is the 'boss' in footballing matters.

Currie has a better track record in football management than Maher and it was surprising to me that he twice missed out on getting the top job at Southend after taking Barnet to the play-offs.

I do not think if Currie was appointed Head Coach/Manager it would be more of the same in terms of playing approach, but I could be wrong.

Maher is our Churchill - our wartime manager, who's shepherded us through our darkest days. For that, we should be eternally grateful.

However, he, the club, and all of us are tired; we're all bruised and carry scars from the previous regime.

Now is the time to find our Clement Attlee - to reset, rebuild and move onto our next exciting chapter. A fresh start; a new era. A time to heal.

If you were born after 1990 none of that would make any sense.

"An empty taxi drew up to 10 Downing Street and Clement Atlee got out" W.S. Churchill (supposedly)

As many of the experts sharing their forensic knowledge of football (far advanced of that provided by the management team) will already know Southend are sixth in the league for progressive passes, third in the league for progressive passing accuracy, fourth for passes into the final third and fifth for passes into the final third accuracy.

As with the balls into the box thing (we get lots of balls into the box) whilst we fetish about formations we hardly understand, the answer probably lies less in how we play and the intent but the final execution. Which to me comes down to individual skills, confidence or both.

The individual skills thing is the toughest to address quickly unless you bring in ready made quality that delivers what you require. And that tends to cost.

Anyway if we were to have hundreds of posts fighting over the things that don’t matter, and ignoring the things that do, I expect it would be a surprise to absolutely no-one. Indeed, the surprise would be if anyone was surprised.

This is the point these days where alternative facts become popular…

"Which to me comes down to individual skills, confidence or both"....just this.
Some Zoner, maybe tongue in cheek, reckons Haaland wouldn't score in this team.
Yes, he would.
He would latch on the ball at pace, shimmy around ANY National League defender and put keeper and ball into the net!
Yeah, I know...wishful thinking, but a little composure and self-belief would go a long way from our tribe.

Lose tonight and surely it’s the right time to get someone new in. 2 home games to get behind the new man straight away then has rest of the season to study the squad and have full pre season to make changes.
People say give Maher a full pre season . But then what he brings his own players in fails beginning of the season. Bring a new man in and he has no funds coz we spent it on Mahers players and we write off another season

You can probably add Morton, Collin and Wind to that list…and perhaps even Gubbins who after a couple of consecutive games was starting to look good but then constantly subbed off and dropped
I actually can't believe my eyes. You genuinely think Gubbins was starting to look good? He is the most awful player ever.

And yet we're still 12th in the league and played terrible football all season.

The current squad is all Maher's signings except probably Ralph and Bridge. Some of the recruitment this season has been unforgiveable and just a total waste of money.

That’s what happens when you are last to the shop, all the good stuff’s been snapped up, and you seek “value”…

I think in the summer we need to pop into Waitrose first and Aldi last, and readjust our concept of “value”. Value does not equal cheap…
