Thanks Kev - but is a new manager needed?

Should Maher go?

Watford are in with a play off shout. Wolves are in the premiership and will probably survive . I’ll crack on with that at any level

Trigger warning: I back Kev.

As per the rules reminder, I’ll put this here.

Kevin Maher is our manager.

Is he perfect? No.

Has he stood up when things got really bad? Yes.

Was he the national league manager of the year? Yes. (And probably had loads of interest).

Would I stand for this in 12 months (Christmas) time? No.

Does he deserve one go unhindered? Yes.
Perfect post

Well, here you go with Brian Moore commentary too.

Off topic but.... Angel and Lee upfront..defenders nightmare, everyone contesting every ball. Andy Edwards became a central defender. unsung heroes Derek Payne Andy Sussex Adam Locke.
combine that with Chris Powell and Ricky Otto...... oh and it's Sammy

Forgotten how good we were, and so much energy

Fry and Maher , chalk and cheese, the former will fill stadiums, the latter, empty them. Cannot face his borefest any longer!
The Fat Judus inherited a great football team that Dave Webb had built , after Stan went Judus had more money to spend than any other Southend manager has ever had . There is no doubt that Kevin saved us with what he had , Kevin can only be judge when he has spent money on players coming to Roots Hall .

He did. But we were also odds on for relegation which he saved us from with the same players.
He them took us further up the pitch with money yes - but he also used it wisely with players from lower leagues. Hunt, bressington, lee, Payne Otto, bodley, etc etc wtc

Lose to this mob tomorrow and Kev will really start to feel pressure.

He will get a chance at home on Tuesday to put it right before trying to avoid the ultimate embarrassment against Sittingbourne

No he won’t. Still one hand tied behind his back and the patience of a saint…

It’s getting very boring. A sad reflection of social media that there ialways has to be a target…someone to blame. He can be accountable once he has something closely representing support to improve the team. Currently our approach in the transfer market would be best described as funereal. If the owners aren’t yet focussed on the playing side why should Kev carry the can for the consequences?

He is fine because we are building for the long term and hence he’s not under pressure from the owners, just fickle fans who have forgotten all the stuff about just having a club is all that matters…none of it was meant it seems…

I'm personally not bothered about the club if it means languishing at the bottom of the National league for years on end. If there is no ambition to get up the leagues. Then what's really the point. I can go over Priory Park and watch football for nothing. I can deal with a club trying and not quite making it but just saying we are sustainable but stagnant to me is pointless.

OK if you're personally not bothered about our club...... goodbye then.

When Kev get's decent funding for transfers we can judge him subsequently.

So the style, formation, and game strategy are all the players fault ?

You just don’t get it do you?
He has already got the players but does not know what to do with them!
If he starts them two midfield stiffs today then it has got to be goodbye.
Pointless getting anyone in if there is no supply line…..bridge going round and round in circles and Miley and Husin going nowhere is the recipe for no goals, why are people so loyal to a manager that sets up wrong every week?
And if poor old Collin is still sidelined with a broken fingernail and a sniffle then that is just as bad…..bring on the Daggers, will the only supply line .Morton get a start, gonna be very interesting?

I feel that as Kev is a very stubborn character, which can now be seen clearly when 2 or 3 nil down and its obviously not working he'd rather stay with his game plan and player choice ! because changing it is admitting he or more accurate the plan might be wrong in that game, Ie he doesn't want to prove himself wrong on shape tactics or player choice hence the odd substitutions and sticking with off form players.
Just an opinion fwiw.

You are the standard bearer for the Kev out group without a doubt. You make my case better than I ever could.

Aside from what barry fry showed in loyalty... He was brilliant at building a team, finding great players from lower leagues and playing amazingly exciting front foot football. Regardless of formation too, he really could get a team to play. We played the ball on the floor, we moved quickly with players forward.

Perhaps younger fans may not have seen and therefore have a benchmark but for me that was some of the best football I've ever seen from a Southend team. That televised game at millwall where we nailed them 4-1.

Some of the players he picked from nowhere who were the right players , with the right formation and a great mentality.

It's my benchmark of great Southend football. Oh to see that again.
100%

He is working with what he’s got- and what he’s got isn’t good enough. He certainly won’t learn much from the experts on here (including me).
That’s debatable when against Barnet it clearly wasn’t working but KM was clearly adamant he wasn’t going to change the game plan.

I’m not KM out. But I do feel if it’s not working in a game it’s worth trying something different. He did do it against FGR and we got a draw.
