Thanks Kev - but is a new manager needed?

Should Maher go?

I really want Kev to stay.

But I wish he would play more aggressive attacking football.

Or to train the players to play one day, 442, the next 532, etc…. Or what ever may upset the opposition the most.

i.e., Let the team a be a lot more flexible than it currently is.

And there lies your problem! Maher is a Southend United legend so is afforded more time and in some people’s eyes can do no wrong. If this was Phil Brown, Mark Molesley, Sol Campbell, Kevin Bond it even Luggy at this point people would be calling for blood.

Love Kev, but love Southend United more. A change is required because we will not go up under Kevin Maher.
Erm, you only have to look back through this thread to find plenty of blood being called for, if that's your thing. The usual forces of darkness can be relied upon to appear following battlefield defeat.

Win a few, lose a few. Until a Southend manager has a chance to upgrade his players without being transfer embargoed we wont be pleasing our faithful fans with quality signings.
At least the previous summer Kev could make some signings before the new season, albeit with a basket case of a club that constantly threatened going out of business, then have the embargo put upon him once the season started.

I think Kev hasn't done that well with certain sub opportunities, playing system, i agree with many that he is playing people that need a rest and a re-focus. There is no doubt that often players benefit from the coaching at SUFC and do improve, but some existing players who have cemented their place in the side need to be checked, Kev must not keep relying on them.

This ethos of looking sideways instead of looking up from midfield is costing us. We wont always be able to control possession and have to come up with other ways to win a game.

Maher out ?, i'm not adverse to it and not scared by the notion. It's not happening yet so let us not get on his back or the team at Roots Hall in the games to follow. Support the boys to the Nth degree, unless you want to see them in NLS.
Reading the match thread today was just toxic, i wished i could be at the game today.

I think the big thing here is "because it's Kev"

If this was any other manager that was not "Mr SUFC" then the "yes" for a change would be a lot higher.

The fact is. This is the worst performing team in our history.

We have had worse teams in the EFL but to be sitting 3 points above the drop in the national league in November is unforgivable.

It's not just results it's the style and general lack of ambition for me.

I have the upmost respect for differing opinions but why exactly do 45% of people who have voted believe we are on the right course sitting just above relegation spots and should stick with Kev?

For me it’s a case of right manager, wrong squad.

In an ideal world I’d give Kev a chance to recruit from a level footing and then assess the situation in 12-months.

That doesn’t mean I’m happy with how things stand right now. I just don’t think swapping managers would solve our problems. It’s very rare that an underperforming team change managers and their mid/long term future gets better.

So you are happy with the style of play then? I do agree that changing managers is not necessarily the answer.

Can’t be having a pop at COSU for lack of investment. I can promise you they’ve settled plenty, much of which has gone unreported as it’s behind the scenes. Transfer budget, loan options and wage bill are highly competitive. Kev and co have turned down certain opportunities with regard to bringing players in. We should not be where we are with this squad and what has been made available to them
Hmmmm. I don't disagree that COSU haven't had easy ride since being owners but when I'm seeing our best centre back being replaced by Bromley reject who lasted couple of weeks and our best striker being replaced by luton youth (tbf he done alright) I do have to question the ambition in the transfer window. Maybe those players offered to kev aren't exactly of the level required to get us competitive at the top end of the league. I agree we should be higher up the league than we are now.

Not particularly.

I think it’s fair and obvious to say we’ve regressed from last season. We look toothless up front & ropey in defence. The losses of Kensdale and & Cardwell has been a major factor of course, but more worryingly the current midfield looks completely unbalanced & almost pointless.

We played the same style last season as we are doing right now, and the results have got worse. To me, that’s a personnel issue more than a tactical issue.

FWIW though, this idea (that seemingly most teams have adopted) of possession football & retaining the ball at all costs, is ****ing crap.

I haven't voted just curious.
No one said we are on the right course, but unless you can come up with an ideal replacement then I’m happy with King Kevin.
It’s so easy to sack sack sack, without have a new course and someone to steady the ship.
It’s not just Kevin , it’s Currie, Bentley , Still all part of management team, when we had the so called messiah in Collymore who had apparently 8000 names in his phone why wasn’t these looked at or was it more bravado or was it with costs ( I don’t know)
We donot know what goes on inside only a few and then many rumours added, so unless anyone can honestly put anyone forward to resolve the current problem then stick with KM

Luckily it's not my job to find a replacement and i am not for one minute advocating binning KM. But truth be known we are on a rapid decline that has to stop one way or another, The thought of NLS fills me wtih horror.

I forgot Pep, he won’t be here past his loan period either, but that’s for an altogether different reason.

Bonne of course is a perm, but thankfully only a year, same as the other two.
Unfortunately, Kev seems to like Bonne. I can see him re-signing him. Even if he doesn't score.
