Thanks Kev - but is a new manager needed?

I think we have the players for a 4 4 2.

Its not that we need new personnel its just KM persists in playing a system that simply doesn't work

Back 4 of Wind Crowther Gubbins and Ralph
Midfield Gus on the Right Bridge on the left and a selection of central midfielders.
KM is just to stubborn to change.

And I believe we have been sussed out as so many teams play wide long balls into the spaces where full backs would be and we do nothing to change shape to counter it.

So no new personnel needed just a manager able to implement change.
Just because you can name 11 of our players in a 442, doesn’t mean we have players that suit it.

We have no depth out wide, we’d need to sign at least 2 wingers before even considering it. Gus has spent his whole career as a right back/wing back and crossing is one of his weakest areas. So I’m not really sure he is a suitable option for right wing.

Perhaps we won't see some in a Southend shirt again? That's what happened last time he said something similar.
I'll believe it when I see it. We don't have depth at the moment so I don't see him dropping anyone, that depth is due to, a lack of/poor recruitment.

GSM on the right of a midfield four would be awful. He doesn’t have the pace, his crossing is poor. He wouldn’t be able to “ghost” in at the back post to such effect as he would be better marked as a RM as opposed to a RWB.

I actually don’t think GSM has played particularly well this season despite his goals, that goes for a large number of the squad, but they don’t match his goal output.

The thought of Crowther in a two also feels me with dread.

Not a good signing then? Would feel safer with him in a back 4.
Disagree re GSM still the one shining light and his goals speak for themselves. Don’t think his marking would be any different and he would be able to concentrate on getting forward. Take his goals out of the equation and we’d really be in a lot of trouble.
As for getting wingers in with KM tactics this would be a complete waste of time. Unless we get a forward in capable of heading, crosses would be a waste of time.

Crowther is a work in progress. I’m not entirely sold on him personally. When you say a four though, you are assuming the full backs got get forward. If they do get forward, he is in a two. Having two other centre backs helps Crowther out. He needs the pace around him, and although not rapid, Taylor and Ralph can move across the grass.

He isn’t picked up as well as a wing back as he would as a wide midfielder/winger. A wing back comes from deep, meaning he is able to “ghost” in unnoticed. A full back should be fully aware of the wide midfielder/winger.

Just a thought though. How do we not pick up long diagonals when teams see how narrow we play across a back 3. I get what you say but 3 5 2 just doesn’t work for us especially when taking into account how negative KM is.

I don’t think Gus’s crosses are too bad .. trouble is by the time he eventually gets in a position to sling one in, the penalty area is too crowded. We delay getting it in, almost try and pass it in sometimes.
I’d love to see us trying to deliver every cross first time one match as an experiment. The defenders at this level aren’t great, so why not put them under pressure?

Of course not every delivery will be great, but you aren’t going to score fannying around with back heels and tricks out wide, whilst allowing the defence to regroup. I’m getting to the end of my tether with our overplaying, we’re not Man City FFS!

Would like to see, just once, Bridge crossing it first time after beating his man. For some reason he feels the need to try it again

Exactly this, if something isn't working, you have to change it up.
Was at Daggers v Barnet yesterday and Barnet tried a number of times to work round them on the wings, putting the same balls in. Going 3-1 down, Brennan changed it up and decided to use other players to run at them through the middle, which won them 2 pens to make it 3-3. Then changed it up again and found a 4-3 winner. We on the other hand tend to keep repeating the same move, whether we get success from it or not.
