How many bogus texts do you think they will get and how long will it be before the poor despatched stewards get fed up with this game of soldiers?.

I could be wrong here, but didn't they introduce a new rule last season saying mobiles were banned while play in progress?!
Southend United Customer Charter
Appendix 2
Ticket Conditions
2)No person may bring into the ground or use within the ground any equipment which is capable of recording or transmitting (by Digital or other means) any audio, visual or audio-visual material, etc etc, eg laptops, Moblie telephones.

4) Mobile telephones are permitted within the ground provided they are for personal use and they must be switched off during the match
Outstanding work SUFC !

taking bets now - which stand will have the most texts at the end of a game

Family Enclosure - hot faviourites Evens
West Stand - 4-1
East Stand - 7-1
South Stand 11-1

Outsider - Opposition Dugout at 100-1

That's probably the silliest, most unenforceable rule I've ever heard.

Incidentally I got some good footage of Goater taking the pen on Saturday....

Yes I think its totally ridiculous that the club are trying to look after its fan base in case of any trouble.

Personally I think its reassuring to know that if any problems take place there is an alternative method of obtaining help.

But hey its probably best if they leave people to get beaten up!!

Such a regular occurance at Roots Hall!
Must be tempting though with Kev stood next to you.

Now if he had said the Kassam Stadium...

Personally I think in principle it is a good idea and I have to admit if I heard someone nearby shouting racist abuse I would sooner text in that report it to a steward, principally because I wouldn't have to leave my seat and force a dozen people to stand up to do so (thus making them liable to be reported in the same manner for standing).

It could do with fine tuning though. For example, swearing, offensive gesturing and persistent standing: It's football, not the theatre. There is a family stand for a reason.

Good to see the club not resting on their laurels and thinking up these schemes though, I'm sure fans would rather these things were tested out than for us to sit here with the same procedures we have had since the 1980s.

Standing, thats illegal isn't it?

Now what's that number again......

yer its a good initive, just unfortunatly you know for a fact the service will be abused, or people sending funny message to the number. Lets hope it works though,

Another thing is, and I know this has never bothered stewards in the past, but would you not need evidence to eject someone from a football ground?

I for example, and obviously would never dream of doing this, might see someone sullying the good name of Roots Hall by wearing an unspeakable claret and blue concoction to a match. I may then decide to report him for racial abuse and get him slung out, despite the fact that there is no evidence he has committed such an offence (although it could be argued that wearing a west ham shirt is reason enough to eject him). Ethically wrong, non?

No standing, smoking or swearing! Guess there is little point in trying to get the North Bank back then?. Perhaps we should all be paid stewards. I would have immense fun throwing myself out of the ground.

Another laughable move by the PC element at the club.

I'd love to read the texts, can you imagine what they will say...

HELP, some little chav in the West Stand V block has just called the ref a w%&ker can you have him removed please.

They will have about 1000 of the same texts in any one game....

Methinks the stewards will be busy bee's.

Personally I feel if anyone texts complaining about such an offense (apparant) they shouldnt be at football, its part and parcel to call the ref a w%&ker especially when they perform like that ******** last Saturday.

Joke.

End of.

I know we've had a similair discussion before, but foul and abusive language is part of the game (the abuse heaped on the ref last Saturday being a case in point).

Fair enough, it shouldn't be tolerated in the family enclosure but otherwise what's the problem? The 90 minutes at Roots Hall is where I get my fortnights worth of swearing over and done with in one hit!

11-1 a bit too generous for the south stand, i'll have a tenner with you @ those odds mate.

It should be,

South Stand 4/7
Family Enclosure 11/10
West Stand 7/2
East Stand 5/1

Be funny to see stewards sent to the east stand when the text is sent from someone in the west stand
biggrin.gif

Oh what fun!!!

Surely they'd report them and then they'd fix a few cameras on them to get some evidence? I wouldn't have thought they'd just jump in and start ejecting people on a text alone, but then again this is SUFC...

What a strange concept.

I cant see how it stands legally as the evidence is only one persons word against another

GoochDog of the Old Bailey

Also, I was interested to see that mobiles are banned.
For me at our lowly club in Leyton, the most fun I have is texting other fans in the ground saying how crap we are.

So in respect of this at halftime in the Bar I can text the number a report about someone using their phone during the match to text someone.

God save anyone who is innocently texting to a friend during a match - you could be called all sorts of names if the people around you think you are a grass.
oops.gif

Or if you see someone texting - text the number of the seat next to them and see how they explain that away to person in that seat.

Oh dear the options are endless. Time to a get PAYG phone just for this.

text TO THE CLUB: There is a man on the pitch wearing all black claiming to be a referee, please remove him from the pitch as he is quite clearly an impersonator
