Holy ***t I love a 3-5-2

I like Tam, it's no coincidence that our good results have been with him in the side, but I don't think he looks fit enough to even play at our level so not to sure what he'd be like in the championship. Will he even get a game?

Personally I think a player like Tam is essential to our success this season and IMHO he's been one of our best players these past couple of months. Will be gutted if he doesn't return and if he doesn't he needs replacing with quality. Good defensive midfielders are often unsung heroes, I think he's been excellent for us since he joined and a significant factor in our recent unbeaten run. I don't think anyone in the current squad could play the same role.

Couldn't agree more.

Agreed. And he was a vastly superior one to what JP Kalala was.

The other factor is that Tam allowed Timlin to play as a third midfielder rather than as one of a central two.

I agree that we don't have anyone who could play that role as well as Tam , but if we don't get a replacement , then I think we need to 'adapt' someone from our squad to try.
I'm not a great believer in square pegs for round holes etc , but someone who sits in front of the back four is IMO essential.
Whilst not as good as Tam , I think Kalala was underrated by some in that position.

Yup. He's a massive loss.

I think a fully fit Kalala could actually do a good job in this team in Tam's role, however he's not of the same quality as Mkandawire and I really doubt that we would be able to get hold of a player of that same quality to replace him. Good holding midfielders are as hard to find as 20-a-season strikers, he's going to be a huge loss. If only we still had Granty - I know we lost the likes of Hall, Kane and (*spit*) Mohsni during the summer months but Grant was the biggest loss IMHO....

We got Tam due to some very fortunate circumstances, Millwall didnt need him at the time but needed him to regain fitness, returning from injury, location etc.

Cant see us getting a like for like replacement anywhere near the same quality.

At least the rest of the squad is pretty sorted.

Maybe Tam's departure not as 100% final as we thought ?

From the echo Marc Laird story :

Tamika Mkandawire’s loan spell from Millwall also expired following the defeat to the Gills and he has headed back to the Den to discuss his future.

That could still lead to him being sent back out on loan but, if that does happen, the Echo understands that Blues will face a fight for his signature as League One sides as well as League Two leaders Gillingham are now also keen on signing him.

I wouldn't get your hopes up. We could only get Mkindawire for another 30 days as an emergency loan whereas Gillingham and other clubs could potentially get him for 92 days which would surely make them more likely destinations. We could potentially get him on a long-term loan until the end of the season but that may well not suit Millwall.

There must be some decent players not in the first team at Championship sides.
Surely it's better for the teams in question to load these guys out until the end of the season , rather than getting pointless 'reserve' games or 'bench warming'.
Who's that guy at Peterborough ? Ferdi-something or other..................
