READ THREAD BEFORE VOTING
SZ Battle Of The Bands Round 1.
Voting closes in exactly 24 hours.

In the First Round of the competition, Queen (Sponsored by Billericay Blue have been drawn against The Beatles (Libertine)

Post your Video clips, arguments, support and loathing. If both contenders are evenly matched, let your vote be swayed by the evidence at hand. Only place your vote when you are certain.
In the (unlikely?) event of a draw, the final decision will fall to Cricko who will base his decision solely on the evidence available in the thread.

Oh Bollox !

Any of our over 40's will probably remember the advert for a suit company (Austin Reed perhaps?), where some lower league footballers are being fitted for a possible cup-final appearance, only for the assistant manager to come in and utter the immortal line "Boss, we've drawn Arsenal away", "Put 'em back lads" says the manager.

That's how this has left me feeling !

yeah this is a bit hard because i don't really hold either band in as high regard as many people. queen could rock in their day and the beatles were massively influential but just not a fan of their jangly pop

Just my opinion, but I think you've missed a trick with the set-up of the polls.

For me, part of the value of the Totty Cup was that you could NOT see who had voted. You didn't know until the end who had played their card (which was important in some of the tight, later rounds), and no offence could be given or taken. Most importantly, EVERYONE would vote for who they wanted to win, whereas now I think you'll see SOME people voting to appear 'fashionable'. Even if just two or three do this, the vote is skewed.

I'd therefore argue for closed votes in later rounds.

Pah, no contest. Queen were good but the Beatles were one of the most influential bands of their time. Beatles it is.

Hairy Muff G ..:o

Queen annoying WHAT WHAT !!! Man for man Each member of Queen far out does the beatles (ok George and Brian are equal really ;) ) Ringo and John Deacon no contest , and while Lennon was a great Song writer so was Freddie , and performance and vocals im sorry Mr Lennon your no where .Beatles were influencal yes , but so were the other Mersybeat brigade.Queen are legends :P

A band with great raw early material who turned into an overblown pompous monstrosity recording pretensious overcomplicated bilge vs ...er the same again...

The beatles get it for being first.

Not enough to make me rue having voted for The Beatles, but their Live Aid show was pretty amazing.

I believe often stated as the greatest live performance of all time .Remeber ths staduim was not full of Queen fans , but of every ones ;)Thats a master performer , out doing Elvis , Michale Jackson and possibly even James Brown ;)

Sorry, but the Beatles were groundbreaking - listen to Tommorrow Never Knows ..... it could have been written by The Chemical Brothers in the 1990's with their sampling and looping.

Queen: Ben Elton wrote a musical about them...and going all lefty, they played Sun City during apartheid.....but that's neither here nor there as it's all about the toons and The Beatles were much, MUCH better.
