I think this may be an era thing. The Smiths were a magnificent band who, unlike the Burnage Boys, quit when they were pretty much at their peak. There are so many reasons why I should vote for The Smiths on a pure musical and cool headed analysis.

However music isn't just about cool headed analysis. It's about emotions and meaning, and soundtracking a time and place. As a 20 year old lad in 1994 Oasis were my band, they meant everything and defined an era for me.

This clip isn't their best song but it's from the gig at Cliffs Pavillion, I was there and I'll remember it till my dying day.

So, purely with my heart, I'm voting for Oasis.

Oasis are a fine band, no doubt about it.. i too was at the CP gig and it was truly awesome, but The Smiths are quite simply one of the finest bands ever, so "Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want This Time"

EDIT: Damn... just seen the score.. DISGRACEFUL

Well it seems like we have a mountain to climb but as Southend showed on saturday come backs can be made so i'm going to change tack and concentrate on the gallagher brothers credibillity.
Now i can see how many people were sucked in by the whole brit pop thing and Oasis stood for brashsness and that even a council house kids could make it in life but most rock star legends stand by their beliefs-Lennon their idol stood by his political beliefs dispite the consequences so how could the leader of the brit pop movement succumb to this moment.......... http://arts.guardian.co.uk/pictures/image/0,8543,-10504949973,00.html
the moment he sipped champagne with tony was when he sold every one of you down the river and even though Morrissey is up his own *** i could never imagine him comiting the same sin against rock.
isn't rock about rebellion?

I can't believe people are so shocked about oasis having more votes. Bands get inspired from other bands from past generations. Bands like The Smiths inspired people like Oasis to play music just like Oasis have inspired many bands from this generation (e.g - Arctic Monkeys, snow patrol). Both are top bands and have released some cracking music but for me, Oasis win hands down as they were the band to make me want to pick up a guitar myself.

Oh and the comment from Noel Gallagher about MP's taking drugs is a classic!!! :hilarious:
