Another toughie. Oasis were good for a couple of albums, but the Smiths were consistently good throughout their lifespan, so I'm going for them.

Oasis - two classic albums and then some good singles.
The Smiths - Up there with The Jam as one of the finest bands EVER... no one could write lyrics like Steven Patrick Morrissey....

Sorry Noel & Liam....

Worryingly, Oasis (good band though they were back in the day) are in the lead at this early stage...

Chill Winston! Look at the Fearne Cotton debacle last week, she was winning by about an average of 3 votes to 1 at one stage. Then later in the day, got overtaken and well & truly defeated :(

I had a nasty feeling about this one from the start mate. Bit like Southend away to Oxford next weekend:

By rights we should be massive favourites and we really ought to win given the gap in class, but something just isn't quite right about it....

Only just noticed BOTB's was up and running!

Little by Little Oasis have proved the best and they kept music alive during the 90s when all we had was Spice Girls pulling the female strings.

It's not just their music with Oasis either. If you are in two minds, then just think of the abuse they have given tw*tface Robbie over the years!

So Don't look back in anger and give Oasis their right to a decent challenge in Round Two.

(I'll be back later with some more plugs so please Stand by Me and vote Oasis!)

Oooh. Hmmmm. Ermm. This is a proper contest, this one - a sort of "Cuthbert v. Pinder" effort.

I'm going to have to go - just - for the Gallagher brothers, on the basis that in the 80s, I was a "Cure" man rather than a "Smiths" man. I don't doubt for a minute that you have to ignore a ton of dross and a pathetic attitude from Liam & Noel... but Definitely Maybe and What's the Story still remain two of the finest albums of the 90s - the first proper rock'n'roll, the second anthemic stadium rock... and both, works of genius.

I like Morrissey and Marr... but I didn't love them in the way that I loved Oasis in the early 90s.

Matt

And that is the strongest reason yet as to why despite some dross albums, over-produced pap & some rather dodgy PR comments to the press, the Gallaghers will more than likely triumph here!

In terms of quality albums, The Smiths win 4-2 (I'm deliberately not counting Hatful of Hollow or Louder Than Bombs as they're essentially compilations, else it'd be 6-2), but Oasis will win this one because so many people here still have fond memories of their 90s heyday.

Although as Public Enemy once said - "Don't believe the hype"
