Because the transfer window is closed.

I think this sort of thing is fairly common. Players go out on loan and a gentlemans agreement is made over a transfer fee which is to be paid when the transfer windo re-opens.

We did exactly the same thing with JCR last season.

That said, I still think it is bolleaux.

Total nonsense.
For the same reasons Grays loaned him to us?

While obviously I hope nothing will come from this, it does seem to be a "strong" rumour. With the transfer window closed, Sunderland will be looking to agree a deal now and take him on loan until the window opens again before completing things.

Bottom line for me though is let Eastwood go and wave to Forest as we swap places at the end of the season.

I don't think we should worry if he goes though. We have Billy Paynter who has been feted from all three sides of the stands as the next scoring hero, hasn't he?

It's simple, if he goes this season we're in BIG trouble. After all the hard work RM, the management and the players put in to get back to this level are they going to throw it all away by allowing Freddy to go on loan to Sunderland? It's laughable. If Freddy actually WANTS to go up there and a large fee is agreed then maybe we can let him go in January - thus giving us 3 months to find at least a half-decent replacement to give us a fighting chance of staying in the Championship. Why the hell would we want to give them Eastwood now and cost ourselves 3 months worth of having him in the side? The points he could earn us in that time COULD make the difference between survival and relegation and surely the club realises how important it is finacially to stay in this league!! Without Freddy if we go down we won't have anywhere NEAR as good a chance of going back up again.

It's a fair point but these rumours have to start somewhere. But would Freddy really want to go there? Yes they're a huge club but they're playing in the Championship and it's pretty much as far away from Essex as you can get. He must know that if he continues playing for us he'll get a move to the Premiership sooner or later. Would his gypsy lifestyle come into it? Or would his head be turned by the massive increases in wages they'd offer?

I can see why some people would compare him to JCR last season in terms of a loan deal but the difference is JCR wasn't even in the RUFC team never mind being far and away their star player like Eastwood is for us.

I'm hopeful it's crap but I'm still worried......

Not going to happen. Why move up North (where it's sh!te) when you've got a family, a decent wage packet, and a manager you can actually understand.

What a load of sh!te.

Last week we had Ron martin on the radio saying we are talking about a new deal with Freddy. He has clearly stated a number of times he dosent want to go up North and he looks like our only serious goal threat - So why would we let him go.

We hardly need the money at the moment if we have just ******* £650k this summer......

Lazy tabloid press as usual..........

If it's the Daily Mirror then I really, really, really, can't stress how much you shouldn't worry about this.

I know from first-hand experience that their methods of journalism...

*ponders how to avoid libel charge*

....look, it's just not true. If it had appeared anywhere else, I might believe it.

Eastwood will leave in the transfer window, though. I'm sure of that.

What because we are non-league and dont want to stand in Freddy's way of joining a league club ?

Ok, let me re-word, why would we let our star player go to a team in the same division ?

As I said, nonsense.

Just read the story. A few points:

1, There are no quotes from anyone to back up the rumour

2, The rumour is so flakey, it's not even a news story with a byline. It's in a silly little gossip section. The same gossip section that has, in the past, delviered such amazing stories as, "I was cleaning windows near Stamford Bridge and I saw Roman Abromovich with Ronaldinho. That said, it was foggy that morning so it could have been anyone."

3, The story hinges on the fact that Sunderland could exploit an emergency loophole. Can they? Can one of the biggest squads in the division go to the FA and say that they really need a striker because they can't fulfill their fixtures? Admittedly, they could use Jon Stead as evidence, but even so....

This is b******s

You also have to remember RM has openly stated he's not for SALE let alone available to go out on loan. No matter what is printed in the tabloids and heard on the rumor mill I really do think Freddy will still be here come the January transfer window.

Long term there is FAR to much at stake this season to let your (potential) star striker go anywhere.

Imagine these scenarios if you will.

1. Freddy scores 15/17 goals this season. Helps secure CCC football for the club next season thus guaranteeing the development of Fossets Farm, re-newed season cards, TV revenue etc.

2. Freddy goes out on loan (or sold) We miss those 15/17 goals and end up in a relegation dogfight we eventually lose thus relegating us back to League 1. Fossets Farm development is put into jeopardy. Lost revenue from season card holders and TV etc.

You get the picture.

Look at it from a business perspective rather than from a footballing one and I don't think we should be overly worried about what we see in the papers or in the media at large concerning Freddy being sold or loaned out.

Erm, yes clearly the parallel I was alluding to. Sigh.

I agree that it's unlikely for us to want to sell and as I said in my earlier reply, it would signal the beginning of the end of our stay in this division.

But let's be clear about what we're talking about. If we did business with Sunderland (and I said "if") we would not be loaning our star player to Sunderland, but selling him.

Are Sunderland interested in Eastwood? Highly likely!
Will we loan him or sell him? Highly unlikely!

Can't see it happening if this was the first time an Eastwood transfer rumour had come up then maybe i would, but it isn't. so i can't see it happening.
