Transfer News and Gossip Summer/Autumn Transfer Targets/Rumours Thread 2022

Good evening!

Targets were crunched down prior to the end of season and agreed on.

It's the time of the season when many staff and players are away or are just coming back, and our Football Department is no different. The targets list will only change if and when targets go elsewhere or stay put.

Ultimately, as I've said a few times, the Football Department's work is way ahead of time ( enabled us to get two over the line very early ) but sign off is down to Tom and ultimately Ron. That's not a criticism, it's just the way our structure ( and every other club ) works.

You all hopefully know me well enough to know that the first and last priority is Southend United back where we all belong as swiftly as possible, to create strong relationships with clubs, sponsors, local and national business, to have a clear and informative media policy for our wonderful supporters and to give you a club to be proud of.

The fact that agents and indeed players are now contacting me on a daily basis wanting their clients or themselves to come to our club should give you an idea of the level of respect our Football Department has in the industry.

We know our targets. They know too. We also have secondary and tertiary should our primary targets aren't available. Again, planning hasn't been wanting.

All have been passed on upwards to see what we can and can't do.

Beyond that, loving the speculation about every player this side of the Nile!

I can only promise you all one thing. Southend United will be a forward thinking , progressive, transparent and respected club amongst its peers in the coming seasons. Hold me to it.

Stan.
Cheers Stan. If I can slip a cheeeky ? in...

Are you positive about sponsorship and new commercial opportunities helping to support our collective aims and to maximise our chances of having a progressive and positive season coming up?

Nice to hear Stan .

Appreciate everything you have done and continue to do for our club .

Let’s hope for a few more incomings within the next week or so with some luck 🤞.

Thanks Stan

8 were by one club which skews the figures a bit. Taking Aldershot out of the picture that's less than one signing per club, given we have already made two very good signings there is no need to panic
And I would wager it is easier / quicker to sign average / mediocre players than it is to sign the better / more promising / rated ones.

So, would anybody here prefer it if we lowered our sights just to get bodies in quicker?

Would those same people then be content with a season of mid-table mediocrity or lower?

The good thing is on the excellent list on page 1 @Smiffy is keeping up to date. None of our alleged main targets have signed for other clubs. When our main targets or those that are green sign for other clubs then I’ll start to get concerned.

Until then, we are still in June and have plenty of time to get out targets over the line.

Sorry wasn’t a dig just always feel reassured when you say all is well . As have been right before that’s all.

Not much more I can add after what @StanCollymore added.

As I’ve said before, I’m hearing 3 are “close”. Two of those have been named on here, and one I still don’t have the name of.

Also, I’m not sure if they are all at the same stage of “close” or whether they are at different stages of “close”. None of them are loanees I’m being told.

Also, they aren’t the only targets we are in discussions with. I’m told, they are just the closest, but all can change over the space of a conversation.

I’ve been told to expect that Mooney & Cav won’t be the only new faces come pre-season.

No update on those who we offered new deals on. I do know that Clifford has been away on holiday most of the summer, first with Lewis Gard & Callum Powell, but also with another group too. But, of course, that’s just an excuse, no one in the SUFC footballing world is allowed to be on holiday, must be something a lot more sinister afoot…

Can you clarify please? Is that the only, or not the only targets?
