Sturrock, like every other manager, will take stick and ultimately get fired. I really think we as fans should develop a thicker skin - some people give it, and expect Sturrock to sit there and take it. If he wants to defend his hoofing, fine. There'll be plenty more chances for those who don't like it to have a go, as with the players we have it won't get him many results.

As an old supporter of the blues, I really do not understand some of the comments on this site, Sturrock has plenty of experience at this level of football, and the caliber of players we can afford, all I want out of this season is to get out of this league and if it takes the form of direct football so be it. By Sturrock's changes at Northampton and last night we got a point when all seemed lost at Northampton, and we are in the hat for the next round of this cup. So back Sturrock untill the end of the season, then you can have your thoughts or not. Good luck Paul Sturrock, but bolster the team please.

:'( Sadly shows that with age does not come wisdom.
Why ? Because even if promoted you will have to sit through it next season too.
and the one after that and after that..........till sturrocks gone.

The problem last season wasn't the hoofball, it was a lack of a plan B. I don't care if we're hoofing it and it's working, but it was clear last season at times that direct football wasn't working, yet we persisted with it anyway, when it would have been better to change our style to something else. If the Manchester clubs did the same thing every match I doubt they would have finished at the top. I expect there to be times where passing along the ground won't work, at which point I have no problem with throwing Cresswell up front, but if we only have one tactic we're going to get found out quickly.

Probably the most level-headed, accurate and succinct point on this thread. That's exactly how I feel and you couldn't have put it much better!

No one is making you go. You can exercise your choice to stay away if you don't like the style of football.

I have to keep going. If i was not there I would be thinking about it and trying to get reports. Its an addiction. Still have my say about it though.

Now it has been a fair old while since I have been, however, from what I read Timlin cannot pass water let alone a football, we have a left back playing left midfield half the time, a player whose only attribute is his long throw on the other wing. Not quite sure who all this moaners think is going to play this fancy football.

People in glass houses.... If you bothered to read what other people post instead of spouting the same tired old bollocks, you'd know that your "point" has been succinctly addressed and discredited. I'll post it again, perhaps you will take the trouble to read it this time...?

Sturrock has played other styles at other clubs. He didn't play long ball at Southampton. He didn't play long ball at Plymouth. I spoke to a couple of Sheffield Wednesday fans about him in a pub a few months ago and they only had positive things to say about him and what he did for their club. They certainly didn't moan about the style of play.

Don't really understand some people. What do some of you expect. PS has performed miracles thus far, we have no money, crowds are down, we have lost in some peoples eyes one of our best players with another to follow soon, we have 16 fit players and have had a shakey start. Yet we are now three games unbeaten, a winnable game on Saturday that if we win will see us in top half of the table, next round of the JPT. The loan window opens next week and with a couple of additions I think we will be competing at the top end of the table. Just give PS and the team a chance.

Opinions,Opinions, we all have them and none are really more or less valid just because someone states them...You have yours, others have their own, this is how it is. No one is discredited here just because one persons opinion may differ from another.

Sorry John, but you yourself clearly don't believe all opinions are equally valid as a look back on your past posts, e.g. to ESB, would prove.

If southchurch (in this instance) has a right to his opinion, then I have a right to an opinion about his opinion and if he wants to post on an adult message board then he should be able to take that. I've taken my share of comment about my opinions, and a lot of serious abuse too and I'm still happy to take my chances.

He has the right to say Sturrock is clueless and should go, I have the right to say he is talking bollocks. In this instance, he was happy to criticise the previous poster's opinion so why on Earth can't I criticise his? And I posted evidence to back up my point, which is a lot more than he did.

Part of the reason Wednesday fans don't moan about Luggy is because they've had some horrendous managers and played some pretty ***** football in recent years. Only now they seem to be on the up but even so their footy is still pretty direct and Luggy-ish (using width and moving the ball quickly with purpose). Because they've had a lot of crap, they recognise that Luggy did the business. We're spoiled with our recent memories of Tilly and the fact that we played decent football on the deck for the most part. Only the very best teams worry about style, for 99% of teams it's results first, style second. We have a bizaare fascination with hoofball, even though we were so close to an exceptional season last year (the point about the 'plan B' issue is valid though).

It definitely is a case of be careful what you wish for. If Luggy goes after another unsuccessful season then who knows what manager would be interested in taking us on, and I'm pretty sure we won't be playing tika-taka down on the Essex Riviera.

It's funny people on this thread have crowed about the years gone by when we played football under Tilly. Yes we played football football, when the opposition allowed but I should point out that Tilly had no plan b.

Furthermore, at the time of said "total football" - people like Gower and Maher, two of the ball players of that time came under attack on this forum - not from everyone , but from a large number - so you may sense my confusion. Peter Clarke also came under attack as well, as did Lee Badbuy , these players were accused of not being able to play the "total football" that Camp Roots Hall deserves !

I think Sturrock should be allowed to play whatever football he thinks as the manager of this football club that will get us out of this division and whilst we didn't go up last year, people would be fools to ignore the fact that each season thus far PS has been here has been an improvement of the previous !

I also think people need to understand the difference between direct football into targeted areas of the pitch and long ball (eg John Beck tactics).

I find it shame that people on here are refusing to accept PS successes and want him out unless we suddenly start playing like Barcelona - in Divison 4, in a football era that is struggling to make ends meat !

There is nothing wrong with direct football, if its done well. The point im making, i remeber a few years ago dutchman R Koomans used to find forwards often with sweeping 40 yard passes, and itwas called total football. but it was done well, not kick the ball 40yards in the general direction of a forward who has little or no chance of getting anywhere near it. At the end of the day, imo, theres room for direct, or indirect football, if its played with a dergree of skill, and not just aimless.

Comments like that will just rile up the Sturrock haters even more. But if we have to continue to play direct and boring football to grind out results come the end of the season if promoted I'd take that.

Our side last year would of crumbled against Wycombe and conceded a late leveller or they snatch it. AFC Wimbledon On tuesday again we could of crumbled but we didnt and PS putting Cresswell up top worked again for us.
I am by no means happy with the style of play that we have produced in the last 2 seasons but if it gets points on the board and gets us out this league then we have to play like the other teams in this direct and look for the target man

At the end of the day, its about the skill levels of the players we have, indirect, or direct. The teams that went up last season mostly played the ball on the deck, but if they had decided to go long, im sure they would have been just as affective.

We are a 4th division football club with 4th division players !
