Who should start up front on Saturday?

As I want us to play 4-4-2, I was hoping the poll would say which 2 strikers do you want starting together on Saturday:

Corr and Paterson please!

He's not going to play 4-4-2 though. So the more pertinent question is that taking the 4-5-1 as a given who do you want us to play up front on Saturday?

I'd like us to play David Villa and Leo Messi up front on Saturday but it ain't going to happen.

Why do you say he isn't going to play 4-4-2?

Sturrock's employed that formation on a number of occasions this season and has also shown himself willing to alter the tactics. He certainly isn't wedded to a single formation.

The loan signing of a 4th central midfielder was the main sign to me. If 4-4-2 was on the agenda any time soon I doubt he'd have been so desperate to replace Easton. Grant and Simpson with Bouzid as back up seems more than sufficient for a couple of weeks.

Signing an extra central midfielder gives Sturrock the option of 4-5-1, but even in a 4-4-2 Simpson's been playing right midfield and so we'd need at the very least someone in as cover (especially as Bouzid probably isn't match fit yet).

True, I believe Simpson played right wing against Bradford and he did tear into them for 90 minutes.

We shall see. I don't think we'll be playing 4-4-2 any time soon unless we dip into the transfer market for a new striker.

It was more of a Pettefer-esque role, where he played very much as a winger when we had possession, but collapsed back into a central midfielder when we were defending, particularly because their left-winger continuously cut inside.

Paterson with either Sturrock or Corr. Paterson seems our best goal threat so play him off Sturrock or Corr. Spencer's a useful sub.

I like Paterson, but he hasn't shown much to be given the heading 'our best goal threat'.
It is because he hasn't had much of a chance, but I just see Spencer as more of a goal threat and it actually is driving me to the edge, I'm very worried that the same will happen to him as what happened to Kightly, Hooper and Charlie Macdonald.

He takes a mean penalty.

442 with Corr and Spencer please, however as we seem intent on 4-5-1 then Corr is the best option to lead the line.

I definitely want to see Paterson and Spencer given a start. Corr and Sturrock have failed spectacularly, time for the youngsters to show us what they can do.

If I have to watch Corr and Sturrock together or Sturrock on his own again up front I fear I will be close to suicidal.:stunned:

So you're back harping on this theme again with your rubbishing of Sturrock who was absolutely terrific against Torquay for an hour before running out of steam - mainly because he showed more effort and brains over that period than Paterson has since he came here. I respect Sturrock senior's opinion more than most on here - I don't fall for the charge of nepotism (not from you that I've seen, to be fair) that some have levelled at him - and think that he has used his resources pretty effectively so far. He will probably start with Corr and Sturrock, although he may be tempted to put Soares through the middle again as that looked quite promising at times against Torquay. I think Spencer may have deceived us a bit with his fantastic start for us against Huddersfield last season - his play could be summarised as a lot of sound and fury signifying........not very much I'm afraid. I hope I'm wrong about that - but I never feel that Paterson or Spencer are going to score when things are going against us and they are brought on. I'm not sure what I think about Corr at the moment but I think he should play. We don't have a Barnard any more, more's the pity, but I think we should get behind Sturrock senior's teams. He has a pretty good record in getting teams promoted.

You really do have some sort of fascination against young Paterson and Spencer, why?

Yes Blair played well for 60 minutes against Torquay, so did the whole team! However, that is it, I haven't seen that level of performance from him either before then or since. If you think that Soares is the answer, then I am afraid you are also mistaken, and as for Corr, if he is ever fit he might get one or two. Why the complete damnation of our younger players? I'll ask again why have you got against Paterson and Spencer any opportunity you have you slate them?

For me pre season Paterson was our best player, our most productive forward, that should equal games, however PS has decided against that, that's fine. I was astounded at the decision to leave Paterson on the bench at Aldershot after he won the cup game for us against Bristol City, again PS made that decision, that's fine also. However, Corr/Blair/Hall/Soares have all failed to make any impact on the pitch whatsoever - therefore I agree with most people on here that Spencer and Paterson should be given more of an opportunity.

What's with all the hate man?

Time for a change up front I think, Patterson and Spencer which unfortunately means Simpson on the right in a 4-4-2 formation. This is not his best position but until we get a decent right winger to play the Soares role in a 4-3-3, this is the best option. I think Patterson needs a run, shows glimpses of class to succeed in this league and Spencer must play on the shoulder of the last defender to give us that needed pace up top.

Team

Morris
Clohessy
Coughlan
Barker ( Capt )
Gilbert
Simpson
Timlin
Grant
Hall
Patterson
Spencer

Gosh. Hate is a ridiculous word to use - I haven't felt that feeling for any footballer and I pity anyone who has. As for first team selection - as you point out, the person who matters (i.e. the manager) appears to disagree with you and I have more respect for his opinion than I have for yours!
