Stan Collymore

The photo i crave is Colly and Maher holding aloft the Vanarama 2023/4 Play-off Final winners trophy, on an open top double decker rolling the team along Southend seafront, waving to thousands of adoring Shrimpers on a sunny summers day.

Er, anyway, i can't help you with what Stan's involvement is these days, except to say a bloody big thankyou.

Concur with all the above posts.

Hopefully once the takeover completes, we will hear more from Stan once again and see him celebrate our wins / successes on his social media as he used to. Stan's a big part of everything good that's happened in the last couple of years, and I'd love that to continue.

Even if it doesn't for any reason (Stan's a busy guy after all) then we as fans and as a club owe him some real solid public thanks and recognition.

That obviously also goes for Tom, Kev and the other Amigos as well as the wider playing and non-playing staff - we just have to make sure Stan isn't left out of receiving the appropriate appreciation for his input and impact over this troubling time (beyond thanks on here and in the Echo). He has been a huge figure in the story of our club, and I'd love to see him around the Hall cheering on the lads on match days, and take his place in whatever the club eventually does to celebrate / tell the story of our history in some kind of museum / hall of fame / whatever (you get the idea).

Poeple refuse to look at the good he has done for the club purely because of his past, I don't think most people realise that Kevin Maher and his team would NOT be here if Stan did not get involved. He was a huge catalyst for the change we needed, and as much as I despise his past and what he may have done, I will never not respect what he did for our club in the time of need.

SC: "I wouldn't wait now, for the sake of Southend United Phil Brown, Ricky Duncan, Anton Robinson and Craig Fagan's time is up"

SC: "Get people at the club, that care about the club. Not about themselves, not about feathering their own nests"
This. Home truths needed saying, and there wasn't anyone other than Tom (whose position constrained him to a degree). Stan had the passion and the balls to do it and thank **** for that. I dread to think where we would be now if he hadn't. Tom would have been all on his own in those early days dealing with the rat and all the mess he created. We also might not even have had Tom at all for all I know.

I’m biased, Stan is one of my Southend heroes from his playing days (as he is for most of us of a certain vintage I’m sure). But I understand why during the turmoil of the past year there were some who doubted him because emotions were running high for all of us.

Hopefully now though as we look forward to a brighter, more optimistic future we can also look back and appreciate the part he played in helping us get to that point. If he moves on from a role at the club after the takeover is finalised then fine….as long as whenever he comes back to Roots Hall to watch a game he’s embraced and welcomed as ‘one of ours’.

A timely reminder of how change was implemented.

Thanks for that Smiffy. Wow. Literally everything Stan wanted in his heart to change, did. He got the CEO in, he got the management team in, all these people that care about the club. He even wanted to see good attacking play and that's happened too and of course the integrity of the club is in no doubt anymore, players WANT to come here and all this Stan said in that interview, changing the mentality completely.

It's quite an amazing turnaround. I guess he didnt bank on Ron pulling out supporting the team and having to sell the club, the biggest twist of all. Stan mentions the fans too, one of the biggest catalysts of fondness for him, again he was right, the fans stepped up. It's an epic interview and brings a tear to the cheek.

I guess his future will be sorted properly once the takeover is finalised.

If he departs the club, though, then I'm at peace with it. He should always have our eternal gratitude for the change that he influenced here to get the club on the right track now.

There is an argument for me that it'll be "job done" for him and he walks into the sunset.

I think he'll have plenty to offer if he does stay on though.

If he walked out tomorrow; he'd still be Stan the Man, and I would be ever grateful for his first and second coming. No smutty ripostes, per-leeze...
He was ever grateful for the eight or so months with us that gave him his career, and he's more than repaid it by returning in our darkest hour.
That said, if he wishes to hang around? Terrific!

Well, when you listen back to that interview, you can hear the passion and the desire for change in his voice. Then look at where we are today - I think it is safe to say that Stan has more than delivered on his vision for the club and his promises to do what it takes to sort things out!

He doesnt need to be involved every day, or be subjected to the whole ridiculous "where's Stan' thing. The fact is that Stanley Victor Collymore has done more for Southend United in the last 2-3 seasons, some very loud and vocally and some string pulling totally under the radar, than the last 2-3 owners have done for a very very long time.

I would be more than happy for Stan to remain with us in some capacity for as long as he wants to be involved.

Not against Stan in anyway and thanks him for helping to make changes on the way the club was being run below the scum level but he was wrong to insist fans lay off Ron. It only helped masking the root issue. The Club was always going to be poison under him regardless of who was bought in underneath.

I'm no a Phil Brown fan but it was no way his fault or Craig Fagans at the time either. We've had far far far worse managers/coaches in our history.

* I'll gladly eat my words above if it comes out that Ron was convinced to sell the Club due to Stans influence but I doubt that being the case.

Stan has so many positive attributes when I comes to Southend united.

I was only fortunate enough to see his last game, as it was my first match.

Helped us stay up. Contributed massively to the club's finances through his sale.

Latterly came to our aid and was instrumental to TL coming in and then Maher, Curry and Benno.

As far as Southend united is concerned, he can do no wrong in my eyes.

Outside of that. He is a little Marmite like, but so many people are.

Whatever your involvement from this point on just know that the vast majority of the fanbase are eternally grateful for your actions and words since that day. Without your energy and commitment we were totally up s##t creek without a paddle. I hope you stay on with us but if it’s time to move on know that there will always be a very warm welcome waiting for you in our corner of Essex.
