So he's saying it's pretty much all in place apart from the final approval from the council (which is basically him cutting back the amount he promised to pay the council as compensation for the impact of the retail park on the high street).

Sounds good to me

To be honest (and I say this with caution), this is at least a little more encouraging in terms of communication. An update in every programme guaranteed is a step in the right direction, I would hope that any statement is copied to the official website within a day or so after each game.
If a compromise can be achieved re the s106 payment then I can see the onsite work starting in a 3-4 months however it is clear that the statement on the website is being used as a timely reminder to the council that given the economic downturn the amount previously agreed cannot be justified at this time.

‘Yes we are starting construction in the Spring, with the Club moving into the first phase of its, new, fantastic, stadium for the start of the 2014 season.’

Yes we will hopefully get you out of my pot of gold that is Roots Hall and dump you in a three sided stadium with no hope of completion on a bit of land the council own who are willing to sign over to me for zilch.

when you say unfinished, what do you mean because the plan anyway was that there initialy would be a three sided stadium with a fourth added a year later. whilst im not a big fan of the thought of the 3 sided stadium, bournmouth and oxford's arnt that bad and even when/if we move in a 3 sider will be realistic (economicaly and simply having less empty seats than necessary) as unless we get to the championship we will never fill a 22,000 4 sider.

'Tis like a Wotsit really, that. All air and no substance.

Said it before, say it again: Until the diggers start doing their jobs, not interested.

Blah, blah, blah - we have being hearing this for several years now.
I hope that there is some truth but like a lot of people will believe it when I see it

Why cant Sainsbury just build the main stand which holds around 8000 and Ronald could build the rest as and when.

Canvey fan has built Park Lane replica from lego..Go on Ron it would cost a few quid.

I love my team dearly but I say again....the new stadium will never happen. I would love to be proved wrong but I don't think I will be.

You will be proved wrong Im sure.

The problem isnt whether the stadium will be built but whether it will be completed.

How would that be any better? A one sided stadium would be worse than 3 sided.

Anyway, the reason they wont is because its the most expensive side and its meant to be a hotel, they arent going to fund that for some other company to then use.

You cannot compare us to Swansea & Brighton. They have wealthy backers who have put a lot of investment into the team even before their stadiums were built!

On our hand we have an owner who pulled the plug on team investments.

Didnt the swansea council fund their ground

You lot are hilarious you really are. A few weeks ago practically all who commented on the revised 106 agreement news were saying the council really has no choice but to pass them and it isn't anything to worry about, and some even commended Ron on a bit of good financial brinkmanship.

Now we have news that more or less 100% guarantees building work to start if they do pass the ammendments and still the worlds coming to and end some are still convinced it'll never happen anyway.

I really do think that IF, and I do say IF, it ever makes it to 4 sides some on here are just going to say bollocks, I ain't going. I hate Ron Martin to much and he built it.

25 fekkin years we've waited for Southend United FC to get a new stadium and here we are closer than we've ever been before and all you lot can bleat on about is the fact it may be 3 sided for a while, or longer. I think a little perspective should be used here. Put aside the personal hatred and mistrust just for a second and be thankful we're not where we were 15 odd years ago.

Old, old stuff. Wasn't it supposed to be completed in 2012? It's getting to be a sad, long saga.
