Question Stadium update please!

I needed some good news and this looks as if it fits the bill. No doubt there will be loads to bitch about (this is ShrimperZone after all) but for me, at 68, I might get to see a new SUFC Stadium in my lifetime. That gives me a warm feeling and it's not because I've wet myself. Mayor of Happy Town at the moment.

I bet Kevin Mayher is already chomping at the bit

I still read that as that it will be a 3 sided stadium without a main stand.
Let's face it Ron will want to build the stadium as cheaply as possible.

Be good if its made clear- I can’t see any reason why the new plans should change the hotel plan with Hilton. Its not 'retail' and why would the council object?

For a moment I thought this was a late April 1st stunt!

All I can say is WOW! It makes a real change to actually have something to smile about!

14k is a good size, and perfect for us right now.

Also a little bit of credit to the council. After this pandemic there will be a horrendous recession possibly great depression...social housing demand will increase this could help the council with said demand...as well as the current issues.
Agree, although you do wish that the council hadn't dragged things along, I don't think it's just down to Ron that things have been slow. The need for social housing hasn't just come up, although this year is going to cause a massive rise as you correctly point out.

Hope you're doing well mate!

If this happens then great!!!!! but …..is everyone ignoring the last piece of that article "
Neither Roots Hall nor Fossetts Farm will not able to move forward until planning permission has been secured.
The previous planning application for the Fossetts Farm stadium was under consideration by the council for almost THREE YEARS"
Now its great having rose tinted glasses, but can I ask another question the last planning application took that long and several before that have taken years and years too, whats to say this is any different?
Sorry but this is Southend Council we are talking about here not exactly a forward thinking organisation ie The pier, the seafront, the marina years back. Gotta feeling we will still be awaiting this in 2030. Call me a pessimist if you like I don't care.

are we renting from southend council ( or a off shoot of it, or renting from Ron Martin)

Initially, I believe it would be a Ron Martin company. But I'd expect him to sell it.

There's no transparency about this side of things. Shareholders should take it up with him because so much of our future will depend on who our landlord is.

(Also one for @LordFootball for the next liaison meeting)

Why do you think SBC will fail to approve their own plans? In the past it was someone else’s

Why would Hilton want to put a hotel there now anyway? No leisure facilities apart from the footy and in the middle of a housing estate outside of walking distance to the High Street and seafront. The out of season income to the club has been forfeited for housing to get it over the line, and to line Ron's pockets.

Not sure being next to a retail park is any better..

Anyway I bow to your greater commercial knowledge of the hospitality industry :-)

Spill over for the airport from the holiday inn? With the amount of flights increasing hotel rooms within A short drive maybe needed possibly
