Spoty 2013

Froome was an Olympic medallist this year though.

Often forgotten. He put together one of the top years ever for a British male road cyclist (TDF 2nd, Vuelta 4th, Olympic bronze) but it passed by almost unnoticed in light of the recent achievements of Wiggins and Cavendish.

Just seen an interview with Wiggins and there's been a "handshake" that Froome will lead Team Sky but Wiggo fancies the Giro and if he does that, its very unlikely he's gunna even attempt the double but will be there "in case"! His odds will drift from 10's, no doubt. Heather Watson is a decent E/W shout agreed ...

Heather Watson has a loooooong way to go before she can compete with the big guns of women's tennis.

There aren't to be honest many big guns out there. Serena yes (at Wimbledon, US Open) but beyond that she isn't too far behind. Caroline Wozniaki is still in the top 4 for Christ's sake!

A run to the Wimbledon semi's and a good showing at other slams and she could reach the top 3 in SPOTY next year and at 100/1+ it's worth a long shot punt with a few pennies. It's a non-Olympic year, and if our athletes fail to perform at the World's and England nause up the Ashes, who knows..........

It's weird that she's still under the radar of the media really. Only 20 and a top 50 player. She looks to have the ability to go a long way in the game.

If Laura Robson is going to break top 20 she's got a long way to go. Shocking stuff on display at the moment.

41% of first serves in and she wins the second. Oh the standard of women's tennis....

Don't speak too soon amigo. 7-7 in the 3rd.

Murray all the way for me

He's cruising at the moment. Barely broken a sweat, which is important because it's roasting in Melbourne and sometimes he's not had much in the tank at semis/finals of the slams. Would love him to bag another slam and potentially go into Wimbledon as favourite.

Me 2. To this day I still want to hate the Scot but I just can't! So annoying! Good luck to him! Went up in my estimations when he started to show that he actually had some emotion!

In a wierd way, Murray deserves it, as last year, his achievments would have won him SPOTY in probably most of the last 5 years, but it was just unfortunate he was obscured by the the fantastic Olympic effort (despite the fact he was a double Olympic medalist himself!)

Murray will be a happy man. Tsonga/Feds going into a 5th set.

I don't think it matters a great deal to be honest only the pro's could comment on that really.

I was reading all this tosh about Murray only playing in the heat of the day and how the ball travels through the air at different speeds at different times of the day and how he won't have the experience if he plays at a different time of day. What about all the other competitions he has played. Get over it.

Gilles Simon, Murray's victim in the 4th round played 5 setter 2 days before and was by all accounts shattered. Feds (for it looks like him) is not the young buck he used to be. 3+ hrs of top quality tennis in that heat is draining. Murray's barely broke sweat so far.
