Southend United's Phil Brown would love to snap up Hogan Ephraim on loan from Queens

SOUTHEND United manager Phil Brown has enquired about signing Queens Park Rangers striker Hogan Ephraim on loan.

Not got the greatest of goal scoring records but who knows he may find his form with us if we sign him.

More of a winger/ attacking midfielder I thought, certainly not an out-and-out striker.

sounds like its practically a done deal :dim:

“Whether or not he’s available or would want to come to us I don’t know.
“It’s one that I would say is up in the air at the moment but we would certainly love to sign him.”

Yea good idea. This lack of wins that wasn't the case before you tinkered with the formation. What next? We failed on promotion or play offs because you couldn't sign the players you needed, we had injuries, the sunbed broke.

I cannot stand RM but I admire the fact he has so far tried to accommodate your whims. When's the contract up by the way?

Perhaps he just hasn't found his level yet. If he comes (and the naming and Echo story) makes one feel that it must be a done deal, perhaps he'll be a wow in League Two. We can only trust PB's judgement here, at least he's TRYING to do something to solve the lack of goals up front. Whether Mr Ephraim is the answer to our problems.........we'll just have to wait and see.

Wow some peopel on here.. He isn't a striker, he's more of a 'number 10' player as some now call it, and I've seen him play a fair few times and judging by that he would be a fantastic signing.

So are you 'for' Brown or 'against' ???

Don't understand why some people are judging him by his goal scoring record, if he was an out and out striker then fair enough, but he is not.

I'm actually on the fence believe it or not but I'm just not impressed at all with excuses. I spend all day at work cutting through BS and political correctness, and as I work for an American Bank I see a fair bit of it. This is league two with a cash strapped club and we are not alone. The players were 'tired' but very few were rested. Dave Smith would have given his bald pate for a squad 2/3 of our current size.

For what it's worth I think Brown has for the most part done a good job , but agree that the squad rotation ( especially of the midfield players ) has been poor.
I guess his argument will be that they have mostly been performing well , so hard to drop them.
But that doesn't do it for me.
If Laird , Clifford and Payne were appreciably weaker than Leonard , Timlin and Atkinson fine , but they're not.
By rotating ( not dropping ) earlier , the performance levels may have been maintained as well as healthy competition for places.

It was the case before he "tinkered with the formation". Our form turned to pot a couple of weeks before we switched to 4-4-2.

Our form died when our defenders got injured.

Indeed. If you look at each of the past three seasons (including this one) we've been derailed not by tactical tweaks or changes, but by injuries to key or important players. The season before last we missed Dickinson and Corr to lead the line, and then last year our form completely capitulated when Michael Timlin's tibula. This year, it's Luke Prosser.
