So here we are then, the final home game of the 2024/25 season, and it’s a late kick off because of coverage on DAZN. By the time we kick off we will know how Gateshead have got on at Boston, how Halifax fared at home to Braintree and if Altrincham have overtaken us, at least temporarily, by getting something from their game at the Daggers.

Our visitors are Wealdstone who, due to the late kick off, could be in the relegation places by 5.30 if Daggers beat Altrincham, as they currently sit just one place and two points above the drop zone. Their current form is almost identical to ours with just one win (against Forest Green) in their last 4 games, although a draw away in the local derby at Barnet indicates they might have more about them than the woeful Ebbsfleet side we beat handsomely on Monday.

The Stones now have Welshman Neil Gibson in charge (no, me neither!), after he was appointed towards the end of January - all of his previous managerial experience has been in the Welsh leagues. They don't appear to have any ex-Shrimpers on their books at the moment - Sean Adarkwa was allegedly a target of ours but hasn't played since mid-November so presumably still injured. He's out of contract at the end of the season. They have Alex Reid, on his second loan spell from Oldham this season, up front and the tall, athletic forward will be the likely dangerman.

With 2 games in 4 days over Easter, Kev opted to rotate the squad with the strikers operating in alternating pairs for 70 and then 20 minutes in each game. With Kendall, Bonne and Walker all scoring against the Fleet he'll probably have to decide which of these (plus presumably the non-scoring Hopper) will have to make do with a place on the bench.

Equally in midfield he rested KAF and Bridge on Friday and Parillon (whose name our stadium announcer annoyingly makes rhyme with the 1980s prog rock band Marillion!) on Monday, it remains to be seen if Morton will be fit to be involved on Saturday and if not whether he sticks with the Husin and Coker combo or whether Cav Miley comes back into contention.

So much to think about and discuss, so who would you choose to start and what do you think the result will be?

One of the keys to victory is to stop Alex Reid, a powerful running centre forward that we were interested in. They like to thread the ball between the opposition centre backs, for him to run onto. So he may escape Taylor and Goodliffe once or twice, then we need Hayes to be at his best. Reid has 16 goals this season. Having watched them a couple of times this season, I would say we have a much better all round side, but they have the best striker.

True of most sides sadly. I have hopes for Kendall though.

Maybe its a game for collin. He seems to have a canny back of taking out forwards with his bravery. (However, I don't wish anyone injured).

Colin gets my vote as Hayes doesn’t seem to be able to catch a ball.
And yes, I know he’s kept a couple of clean sheets and it would seem harsh on him to drop him but do think Colin is a better shot stopper and positionally he is better.

Just my opinion though.

They both have strengths and weaknesses. Collin gets rooted to the line on crosses, free kicks and corners. Opposition have noticed that and started to crowd him on corners. If he could sort that out, he'd be much better than he is. Hayes is more likely to come out and punch or catch the ball. Collin's reflexes seem slightly better than Hayes.

So, late Saturday afternoon we trot out onto the pitch to the adoration of 9k+ Blues fans. Boston have seen off Gateshead and Halifax only manage a 0-0 against the Iron, what could possibly go wrong?
We all know the answer to that unfortunately.

All we see in the Echo every week is the players and management giving it "the huge support really helps us" "They're a 12th man" "They are s ucking it into the net" etc etc.

Well Kev and players, it's high time you lot turned it on and matched the tremendous support you get at Roots Hall. No more choking in front of big crowds. Grow some, get out there, take it to them from the off and get the job done....

This will be a very difficult match. Wealdstone have woken up recently and are on a fair run. We salvaged a draw at Wealdstone in September thanks to a dramatic last gasp equaliser by GSM. Their approach to the game will depend on how Daggers and Boston have fared in the 3 o'clock kick offs - two of the exact same games that we'll also be watching very closely. One factor to note is that Wealdstone's goal difference is dreadful at -19 compared to Daggers' -6. It is thus likely that Wealdstone will attempt to go for a win which should be good news for us as it will allow more open play (although Alex Reid is a real danger). Bear in mind also that Wealdstone's final game of the season is against Halifax which won't be easy for them (but we will want them to win that!).

So.......... I predict a draw if we're lucky. I also think Gateshead will draw at Boston and Altrincham will draw at Daggers.

Cripes!!!!

It was Walker with the last minute goal at their place.

Any game against a team fighting down the bottom is tricky but they didn't play well in their last match by all accounts.

Cook hasn't played in the last few games and he is hopefully absent for this one. He always seems to stand out as a good CB at this level. I think Tyler Walker (can't believe he is at the level) is injured too.

Overall, we should have enough to win this one and I think it could be quite comfortable IF we get an early goal.

The same team starts in my opinion. Parillon can really hurt them off of the bench. With all his injuries, Coker has actually managed 6 goals. By far and away our best outlet to get a goal from midfield. Bridge has to play, it's as simple as that. The 3-5-2 brought the best out of everyone. It made the front two, actually play as a front two. Bonne got his goal because he played centrally. He goes wide in a 4-3-3.

With Reid looking to split the two central defenders in a back four, as TSNB said, therefore three centre backs would seem the best counter to that type of threat.

So I would go 3-5-2

Taylor - Goodliffe- Ralph

Gus and Bridge at wingbacks

Husin, Coker and KAF in midfield.

Ideally I'd start as we did on Monday with Kendall if fit and Hopper up front.

Hopefully we can play on the front foot against a team who have to be a bit more open that most.

I am hoping Daggers get some sort of result at home to Alty, not just for us, but to make Wealdstone go into the game knowing that anything but a win leaves them in the bottom four, meaning they have to come out and play. I feel we play better in that scenario, than having to break a team down that are packing the defence and asking us to make the play and break them down all the time.
