Southend United attempt to bring in defenders Cian Bolger and Mads Ibenfeldt

Personally, I think the combination of Bolger/Ibenfeldt and Richards-Everton would be a better and a more mobile option for recruitment than the Bolger and Ibenfeldt combination, which might lack mobility and balance. My understanding is that both Bolger and Ibenfeldt are right-footed defenders, but I could be wrong.

Is Prosser a left or right footer though?............if left, could solve the potential problem, if right then....:homer: D'oh !!

Sticking a winger upfront? Never really works for my mind.

True, but Weston can play up top or out wide, and this season he's asked to play more of a role up top and judging by his goals so far in pre season he's worth a go imo.

A friend of mine is a Gills fan and when they gained promotion from L2 MW played a lot of games up front and scored quite a few

In the 1st half versus Ipswich we played two up front but in the 2nd half only one. Chiedozie (10) was stuck out wide then subbed.

23 career goals in 257 games, a ratio of one goal every 11.17 games, suggests Weston has no pedigree whatsoever as a striker. Whilst he has looked promising during pre-season, this is a huge gamble. It's my inclination that Brown is going to favour a 4-4-2 system, at the start of the season, with Weston and Barnard up front. However, I can see us soon revert back to one up front in Barry Corr when the goals are not forthcoming.

This stat is largely irrelevant though as Weston has spent almost all of his career out wide.

I would have thought that corr weston would be the two in attack . Sadly I still cant see Barnard getting 10 goal let alone 20.Still not convinced we should have kept him .Just hope he proves me wrong .

If we sign these two I'm confident we'll have a mean defence again next season. Good competition for places between Prosser/Bolger/Ibenfeldt with Thompson as back-up. Still worried about where the goals are going to come from, though. A lot riding on how Weston does, or perhaps Layne will turn out to be a gem, although Chris Phillips has tweeted today that we're also after a younger from Spurs on a season-long loan, who I would've thought might be a striker.

Agree, unless Barnard is super sharp and gets a strong service inside the box id be surprised if he scores 10. Not convinced. Also as referenced before ,Gills mates see Weston as good at first especially with contract under belt and then falls away after 10 - 15 matches. Crowd started to get on his back for lack lustre performances, a la Straker? We will need more than Weston and Barnard upfront to gain promotion. Again would love to be proved to be a complete tw.t

Hang on though just seen C. Phillips thread that Isaac Layne past medical, and blues seeking to sign 3 players tomorrow and Richardson ( midfielder) released by Newcastle just joined on trial. Fagan still hanging on in there, other trial lists released.

I'm guessing, Mads, Bolger and this lad from Tottenham. Isn't Layne going into the u18 squad? Still confused by the Fagan situ though. Based on preseason I would say absolutely sign him up.
