Southend United attempt to bring in defenders Cian Bolger and Mads Ibenfeldt

"have made a double swoop" says the article - past tense used. Shouldn't that be "are making" - present tense - seeing as neither player has been confirmed?

I don't want to tempt fate
however
Bolger is a proven CB- he played in L1 on loan with Bristol a Rovers and Colchester. And played a full season on loan with Bristol rovers in L2. We also had him on loan all be it for a short term so he is a known quantity. No reason to believe he won't be as good if not better than Sokolik or Egan and if we get him on a two or three year deal all be it with a sell on clause it could be a cracking piece of business.
Ibenfeld I saw mentioned as an unknown quantity - but that only true as a L2 player in England. He has been an regular week in week out in Denmark in the second tier their league one- the team he was playing for seem ok with a stadium a bit bigger than our. They were very reluctant to release him but his wife has a business that has moved to London and so he has too. Nearly joined Gillingham last year and that where the recommendation from Peter Taylor came from.
in my opinion these are two good CBs who could play at L1 level.
Fagan I personally would take anyway but have been pleasantly surprised that based on the Ipswich and QPR games he is in really good shape and still has a bit of pace about him- could be a real surprise for us
so I think things starting to look promising- but at this point we have signed none if them

i know chris phillips is scratching around for news, but brown wouldnt comment on bolger, and said one of the triallists has been offered a deal. talk about putting 2+2 together and getting 37,358. it may well turn out to be correct, but not only from the information hes used for this story.

I think the Bolton evening news today quoting Dougie Freedman and confirming our offer had been accepted is fairly compelling. But he also says it one down to the player and us
ref Mads Max if CP is 99.9% certain he has an offer that's almost certainly the case

Sorry if I read this write we are actually looking to have brought the guy from Bolton or just on loan again?

"We" offer to take him off of your hands, with no money changing hands but with the opportunity of regular football...and he will be returned to you in May of 2015 is my reading of the situation:thumbsup:

Two defensive signings would be very welcomed. Also I Will get very surprised if Fagan is not also signed.

Would still need a pacey forward and a further midfielder imho

If we get these two in I will be delighted....squad still a little thin though.....slight panic if we do not get these two??????

Personally, I think the combination of Bolger/Ibenfeldt and Richards-Everton would be a better and a more mobile option for recruitment than the Bolger and Ibenfeldt combination, which might lack mobility and balance. My understanding is that both Bolger and Ibenfeldt are right-footed defenders, but I could be wrong.
