Who is the mug who keeps texting in to BBC Essex after games using names of pretty well known posters on here with a "Sturrock and Martin out" message? Yorkshire Blue copped it today!

I heard this as well. OBL on monday and YB yesterday. Thought the comments sounded out of place.

I know you will probably think I'm a bit mad. But...

For the first 30 minutes I didn't think we played that badly. I thought our general football and posession was good. We kept the ball nicely, played with a lot of width and were spraying passes all over the shop. The only thing that was missing was a threatening striker.

Second half again we came out straight away to attack. When Hall came on we looked like a different team.

Just his presence when he is on the field adds to our quality as a lot of attention focuses on him.

Anyway. I'll carry on this post later cos I'm going to hang myself due to dropping these points.

There were also bad points which I will discuss later.

Now where is that rope.

I agree entirely. I quite enjoyed the game.

Oh, and as to the BBC Essex thing, I know now who it is. It is someone who is a complete tit and I really shouldn't be surprised.[/QUOTE]

Many have suggested the description fits but it wasn't me.

Yep and their donkey no. 5 missed a free header in front of goal from about 3 yards out.
suprised me aboout prosser's motm - their no 5 gave him the slip every corner in the 2nd half and his goal made up for the goal he was at fault for. first half, balls were being given to harris/sampson to hold / lay off - no kick and chase. really guttered (you had to be listening to bbc essex - lol) at the end. not a brilliant performance by us but a piont is a point, 3 games unbeaten, still in automatic promotion position. utb

Game of Two halves really. Sawyer did O.K. considering he is not a wide player. He can now take Grant's place in midfield where he will be much better and more influential, with Hall on the right wing. The players did not seem to believe they could score a goal first half, that all changed when Sampson went off and Hall came on. So much more dangerous and passing to feet. Same again Mr Sturrock, but please do not start with Sampson. It's horrible to watch and will not get the wins we need.

Impotent up front. Oh for the days of big Bill Garner and little Billy Best. Spud on the left and TJ on the right.

Hall and Martin for Spud and Terry Johnsons wing play and crosses. Harris or Benyon for Billys role, and that leaves Sampson or Flood for Bill Garners power in the air. Oh dear!

An absolutely gutting end to a game and yet another couple of points thrown away when we could have gone second. On reflection ,the next day Accrington probably deserved a point and were obviously aggrieved with some of the refs decisions which did not go their way. The nastiness to the game and towards Grant was obviously the leftovers from our first away game of the season when Grant was involved in similar and one of theirs got sent off in injury time leading to the afters in the dressing room for which we got fined.

Belford 6 - No chance with the first goal, but the second? would like to know exactly what happened.
Clohessy 6.5 - Steady as usual got forward with more impact with Hall in front of him
Phillips 7 - Very brave when needed, gave 100% as always
Prosser 7 - Impressive apart from the first goal, which he got under the header and went across goal instead of out of play
Gilbert 5.5 - Ok, tried to pass it down the line, but unlike Hills did not look overly comfortable
Sawyer 6 - Worked hard, but right wing not for him, expect is he under orders not to take too many on.
Timlin 6 - Quiet again and some of his passing a bit sloppy
Grant 7 - Involved in everything, will be missed for the next two games
Martin 6.5 - Making this position his own, but still think capable of stepping up another notch
Harris 7 - Worked tirelessly and led the line well
Sampson 6 - Will be very good in a couple of years when has added strength to his size

Hall 7.5 - MOTM we were a different team when he came on, must start from now on
Benyon 7 - Excellent cameo and goal, must also start next week with Harris
Ferdinand 4 - Why? booked which led to their equalizer surely Harris would not have let that happen.

Trying to be positive we live to fight another day thanks to the other results, but we must get the victories from the next two games to be in with a shout of automatic promotion. We are now in the stage when the teams with games in hand start to catch up by playing Tuesdays. Surely we should not be having these life and death struggles with mid table teams if we are good enough to be promoted as we hope?

But he won't will he? Ferdinand will take that place, Sawyer back on bench.

The BBC essex thing NOT me either. The shout for Martin to leave the ball - For me with seconds left Mertin should have played safety first by heading the ball away as far as possible. Its risky even if Keeper did shout being so close to the goal.

Ratings.

Belford: 6 - could have done a bit better for their first, definitely should have got something on the second. But overall kicked well and commanding.
Clohessy: 6 - average.
Gilbert: 5 - awful. Although a couple of passes found his man, he was missing quite a few times, marked the wrong man, etc, etc.
Prosser: 7 - apart from their goal, an assured performance
Phillips: 7 - great performance. won every single header. made one mistake, was almost punished, but tracked back and somehow we got a goal kick
Martin: 6 - a few good runs, but not effective enough
Timlin: 5.5 - not bothered at times. poor man's Maher. bottled a few challenges.
Grant: 6 - a bit better than Timlin but not much
Harris: 7 - good game. great cross for our second. slow, but intelligent
Samson: 6 - good control, good presence but doesnt attack the ball

Hall: 7.5 - superb. willing, attacking, dynamic
Ferdinand: 6. waste of a sub
Benyon: 7.5 superb. great impact player.

We did try and put the ball on the deck in the first half. The trouble is that our defenders can't cope and just hoof it. When we did pass to feet we looked OK, until it got to Grant or Timlin and then it broke down, either Grant fell over or Timlin just passed it back to the defence to hoof.
Sawyer and Martin did OK, but when both strikers are basically holding forwards and Timlin and Grant aren't the most attacking of midfielders, there's a huge gap between midfield and attack, which Accrington exploited.

When Hall came on, we had a bit more urgency. When we scored, the confidence was flowing.

If I was a neutral - what a game, 4 goals, a sending-off, a couple of penalty shouts...

Alas, I'm not. But if I was to pick the next team:

Belford
Hills (please be fit)
Prosser
Phillips
Clohessy
Martin
Sawyer
Grant
Hall
Harris
Benyon

With Grant out Id put Timlin in but Id go with the same team.

I assume Hall was still not over his illness but we need him to start. With Hall and Martin we will surely create chances?

Yes, with Hall and Martin, and two strikers like Harris and Benyon, I can see 3 or 4 goals in that.

Has PS started both Hall and Martin in the same match yet? .. i'd suggest if he hasn't done it up to now he aint going to on Saturday (sadly)

I think injuries / discipline / illness has prevented them starting more matches together because I think the only game they have is Northampton when we scored 5, Martin getting 1 of them. Then again Im 99% sure Mohsni replaced Martin to score his 2, so.......

Yep Northampton when we ripped them apart and scored 5. Obviously this frightened Luggy that we could be so attacking and so he immediately reverted to one winger only.
For me the only way we are going to maintain our promotion push is by playing both of them. I cannot understand his thinking at times. Our midfield has been so painfully defensive at times.
