Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 2-1 MK Dons

and another thing ******** ************ ******** ******* ******* *********** ********** ********** ************ *************** ********* ******** 2-1 to Southend!

Referee was a joke....one maybe two bad tackles all night but 9 or 10 bookings!!!

Paul Ince is a complete tool

Barney is a ledge, I love these late winners

Ref was a complete tube. Gave cards like sweets and should have given a red for a terrible tackle first half. Couldnt tell you if it was a penatly or not as i was too far away.

The team played badly for the first 30 mins but just kept getting better after that.

Laurent gets special mention as he just left lewington for dead on quite a few occassions, and was MOM for me, but there were quite a few good performers tonight.

Great pen from barney and good anniversary for Tilly.

Crap support from MK Dons and a fairly quiet and dissapointing crowd at the hall tonight 6900 odd

To the plastic, franchise club...ha ha ha ha ha

I'd rate our heroes as follows :
Mildy....8 Made some excellent stops. Kept us in the game
Grant...6.5 Solid. Stuck to his task.
Herd....6.5 1st half=5. 2nd Half=7.
Francis..7 Composed. Looks much better at CB
Barrett..7 Gave everything as usual
Christophe..6.5 Worked hard and broke up their play
McCormack.7 Did well tonight. 9 bookings and he didn't get one (what were the odds on that ? lol)
Laurent..8 Caused them problems all night.
Mooooooousse..6.5 Did ok. Some nice little runs
Freedman..5 I'm a Dougie lover, but sorry mate, you looked off the pace again tonight.
Barnard...7 Works soooo hard and so cool when in front of goal.
Sub : Scannell...6 Ok. Looked quite lively

What a fluffy bunny of a ref, then again I say that most weeks. What I will say from my vantage point in East Greens def looked like a pen and Roy Keane was in the Directors box tonight, my guess running the rule over Barney

Result mattered more than the performance which wasnt great, dont think Gueret had to make a single save.
First half we were poor, MK dons couldve had 3 or 4 with better finishing. Both their wingers were getting the better of our full backs.
Second half much better, worked much harder and started getting more balls in the box.
Ref was poor for BOTH sides, shame about Grant as he has been excellent in a variety of positions.
Two biggest disappointments were Doogie (for the umpteenth time) and Macca whos passing and shooting left much to be desired.
Saying that with only 3 fit defenders and 14 fit professionals, a fantastic result.

Mildey- 6, not much to do but did it fine.
Francis-6, poor first half, got better in 2nd half.
Barrett- 7, typical AB, threw himself into everything.
Grant-7, been really solid wherever he has played across the back.
Herd- 7, a few dodgy moments, but 2nd half thought he was superb.
Laurent- 7, only player capable of taking players on, but must improve final ball.
Macca-5, poor passing and shooting, plays 2 bad passes for every good pass.
JEff- 6, not sure why MOTM, wasnt his goal and he gave ball away a lot.
Moose- out of form but no one to put pressure on his place. Did improve 2nd half.
Doogie- 5, anonymous, barely broke sweat. Must be enjoying his £3k a week.
Barney- 6, cool as you like for penalty, didnt get much joy from their big centre backs.

Not a lot more to say i suppose, except, yep disappointing crowd, worst atmosphere i have ever experienced at the Hall on a Friday, improved a little in the second half "ref was a complete tube" how polite LOL he did all he could to ruin a good game, clearly he wasn't sure how many yellow cards he had to give to reach his 500, so he gave 9 just to make sure. Why Grant was booked is a puzzle, all he did was shrug off the idiot who was pulling his shirt, Barney's booking for diving, another joke, how can you dive when both feet are off the ground, first he was warned and then booked, almost laughable, yes it definately was a penalty, Laurent almost had his shirt pulled off him, however i am pretty amazed that the ref saw it (who's complaining?). The only player i was a little dissapointed with was Dougie, clearly he just wasn't quite there tonight. Every other player on the pitch was superb IMO. Having said all of this who gives a toss, we beat the cheats and we deserved it. Tilly, well done mate, and congrats on 6 years. UTB IN TILLY & BRUSH WE TRUST.

if macca 5 and doogie 5 what the **** was the moose score 0 then....

I stand by my comments about Deadman in the ref watch thread. Roy Keane seemed amused by it all though. Oh and one other comment from tonight - with about 10 minutes left, some guy in the East shouted out "make a change Tilly" to which Tilson turned round and said "f*cking what?". Clearly he'd forgotten Walker had returned from the dead.

As for the game, I thought it was a poor one that either team could've won due to the other's inability to defend. At all. After the shocker of a tackle by Howell on Christophe and the incompetence of Deadman to do anything about it, the game turned into farce at times. Our centre of defence and our centre of midfield were weak and overrun. Their movement ripped the middle of our team to shreds at times. At least Tilly spotted the complete lack of mobility in the centre of their defence and brought on Scannell to stretch them a bit more, which worked and in turn took some pressure off of our back line.

Ratings:

Mildenhall 7: Made a couple of decent stops.

Grant 6.5: Quite simply, he's far better in midfield and we miss him when he's not there.

Francis 5: Has something happened to him off the field or something? We all know he's in and out and seems to struggle to get his head right at times, but he looks a complete shadow of his former self. Won naff all in the air and was pulled from pillar to post.

Barrett 5.5: Captain kamikaze, was, well, captain kamikaze. 5 minutes after he was booked he flung himself to the ground, nearly wiping out their attacker. Thank God he missed. We still struggle to defend crosses and he's the main reason for this inability over the last few years. But it's alright, because he's a local boy.

Herd 6.5: Still a little naive at times in his defending, but he's young and learning the game so it's to be expected. We'll have a real player on our hands if he stays first choice until the end of the season. Thankfully he was there on the line to save us towards the end after that bizarre Barrett clearance for a corner that nobody understood. Adds good quality going forward.

Laurent 7: Why can't he play for 2 halves!? Why!? Sublime in the first, anonymous for 35 minutes of the second. The epitome of a foreign, enigmatic, flair player. He could win us games single handidly if he kept focus for the whole game.

McCormack 6: Drove forwards well but still can't pass water and can't shoot for toffee. Game after game he drops us right in it with inexplicable passing to the opposition, as he did tonight.

Christophe 5.5: Must be stronger. Although I've been saying that for about a year now and I feel like I'm a broken record. Was reckless and lucky not to be sent off in the first half with the way Deadman was flashing the cards. Not in the same league as Grant in that position most of the time. The sponsors man of the match, so he must have had a bad one. His 'goal' has now been credited as an own goal as well.

Moussa 5: Absolutely anonymous. His poorest display of the season. He was starved of the ball at times, but when he did get it he wasted it until late on. Perhaps suffering from a bit of a burn out?

Freedman 5: Anonymous. Ran around a fair bit, but what's the point in having him run the channels? His ability is wasted in our team currently, but I do fear his legs have gone somewhat and that we'll never see him score another one for us. I hope I'm wrong.

Barnard 6: Had a complete lack of service and other than score the goal, did little apart from wind up their backline.

Sub:

Scannell 6: Thought he gave us what we needed from the outset, a little bit of pace to get at the two, slow, struggling centre backs. He stretched them. If we're going to insist on hoofing it into the channels for 70% of the game we should have him on from the start instead of Freedman.

The other thing to savour from tonight was yet again the large amount of halfwits who left five minutes early (doing their usual superior trying to be first out to their car, avoiding the crowds etc)and therefore missed Barneys goal - i fail to understand why you would pay £20 to see a game but can't stay around for the duration - you'd have thought they would have learnt by now especially after Gillingham - it must be disheartening to the team to see large gaps of empty seats appearing late in the game..
end of rant!

The same could be said for some of our away fans who spend a lot more than £20 to simply stand for 90 mins goading the home fans and arguing with stewards...what's wrong with watching the game and supporting the team?!!!

I sometimes have to leave early to get to work, so there are genuine reasons

I can't disagree with Andy S.

I think Herd should be given an extended run. He is learning and is going to be a real asset in the near future. Sadly, I think Dougie's time has come. I really want him to succeed here, but I've not been impressed in recent weeks, I'd be giving Scannell a start.

And the referee tonight, oh deary deary me.

I have a different view from many on here it seems. Fantastic effort from all the players (perhaps dougie excluded). Thought it was one of the best home matches this season - thoroughly enjoyable end to end stuff with many strong challenges.

For me, the ref (who was a tube) helped make it better by winding up both sides and perhaps helped us out by turning the game into an aggression fest rather than a football match as in the first 20 mins when MK Dons had looked the better side. I did think when the no 21 took out Christophe in the first half it should have been a red + a yellow to Macca for his reaction - if he had done that then the game would have probably been kept in control. As it was, just a yellow and the ref had lost the players.

Anyway - ratings

Mildy 7 - couple of good saves and distribution was brilliant (for a change). Their goal did meg him though and could have come for a few crosses imho.
Grant 6 - Not his best game, but did ok as he continues his tour of the team.
Herd 7 - 8 Going forwards and 6 defensively.
Barrett 7 - Got stuck in
Francis 6 - Out of position and it showed. Did ok at times, but rash challenge gave them space for the goal.
Moose 7 - Did well when given the ball, but not involved too much
Macca 7 - Best I've seen him play for a while. Looked well up for it. Keep improving thou Macca, you are capable
JFC 7 - Distribution poor, but he was super competitive in midfield tonight. Also im sure Irish Shrimper is happy to see a french man involved in a debatable matchwinning decision.
Laurent 8 MOM - I've seen Lewington play many times and have always rated him. Tonight he was torn apart by Laurent. Created a great chance in the first half (for Macca then Moose). Unlucky a few times in the second. Didnt realise he was as quick as he was. Please keep playing like this!
Dougie 4 - Im a fan, but in the last month he has had no impact in any game. Tonight was probably his worst
Barney 7 - Not involved too much, but calm as you like to slot the penalty.

Sub. Scannell 6.5 - Chased hard and despite nothing coming off for him caused many more problems for Franchise than Dougie.

Ref - as above - absolute tosh, but my view is that he helped kick it off into an enjoyable game. The penalty is a start of the evening up of decisions we deserve. It may well have been a shirt pull, but 3 minutes into injury time you dont tend to see those get given.

RAF Mildenhall 7
Francis 7
Barrett 7.5
Grant 7.5
Herd 7
Laurent 8.5 MOM
Macca 8
