Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 2-0 Colchester United

Very professional performance from the lads! First half played well and deserved to be 2-0 in front. Second half was all about seeing the game out, which we truly did. Colchester looked poor and didn't seem up for the fight. Onto the next 3 points at orient. UTB

Colchester were truly truly awful. As far to say they are the worst side I’ve seen this season.

Southend continue to grow. Confidence is everything in football individually and as a team and at the moment some good acquisitions has given them some impetus and shown that “the process” comment that was mocked by many early on has proved to have some validity.....

The biggest difference is not conceding goals.....something Bond and Waddock highlighted a long long time ago....and were mocked for repeating.

Hart was my MoM.
Elvis was quietly effective, looked solid at the back.
Dieng and Hobson were impressive. Dieng took his goal well but should have done better with his shot after ANG's brilliant run and pass.
Akinola looked really impressive initially but was crunched too many times and ended up limping and finally subbed.
John White performed the Macca role very effectively, but without the forward runs ( they weren't needed today anyway).
Kyle Taylor had an excellent first half but tired as the second half went on and started making mistakes.
Egbri had some very good moments but was less effective than usual overall.
ANG was below par initially but came into it more as the game went on.
Demi was commanding and didn't pass back too often!
The Ox made a couple of important saves and looked confident.
Acquah did well when he came on. He roughed up a couple of the Ewes defenders well.
The ref was pretty good and allowed the game to flow.

Bugger. Barrow have just scored at Port Vale.

Mark Molesley has been building since the season began, sometimes the wall has collapsed through a weak mix, but now we have added a strengthener or two and it sets pretty quickly now. Today proved that we can play a bit, score goals, press high and defend in depth when it's needed. The fact that we put the sheep to the shearer proves that the only way is up. I doubt the O's will think we are canon fodder now. Great result Mark and the boys.

Can we start the season from 1st December? Really impressive first half and really professional second half to see the game out. More new signings coming in, future looks so much brighter (COVID allowing season continuation). A couple of tricky away games coming up, then we resume our battles with the lower teams through January. Can see us being comfortable, around 15th come 1st Feb. Fantastic Blues, Bull for the sack???

great result despite the terrible situation we are in due to covid19 this can give you some cheer at last even if just short lived, as I said take each game as it goes and play your hearts out each time

Borient will be a tough one

Newport will be a big bench mark to see how we are doing

I was absolutely scathing of MM and the team little over a month ago, Today was like watching a phil brown team playing, togetherness, determination and desire (which were all so so missing in the first quarter of the season). All absolutely brilliant today, lets not forget John White, exceptional.. You know the best part for me??? Was seeing at the players getting involved when the pushing and shoving started. All the lads got in there and proper stuck up for the shirt.. that shows whats happening down there right now, the final whistle, the players all genuinely hugged and embraced MM that showed for me, we are going north from this point forward

I so wish we could have been inside the ground today. Those tickets have been on the sideboard haunting me! Fabulous job today from everyone, two well worked goals, industrial defending and three points. We made Colchester look awful, they looked like the team in the drop zone!

Another 3 points, off the bottom and we are looking good for the second half of the season. Best Christmas present the team could have given us.

Literally buzzing after that game. Good solid team performance that made Col Ewe look very poor. Most inportantly another 3 points to boost confidence, keep our unbeaten run going and keep the great escape on course.

Love seeing Molesley giving all the players a hug at the final whistle, you can see what it means to him.
Agreed, just nice to have a manager who seems genuinely proud to manage our club.

Great professional performance all round. We need to keep this performance going consistently now to avoid relegation. Most had a solid to good game. John White gives a headache for Jan. When he plays like this you wouldn’t drop him but can he be fit enough to take a place on the payroll as although out of embargo cash will remain tight.

Another excellent , professional performance again today and honestly think we can compete with anyone in this League.
Having said that we are still at the wrong end of the table and others may strengthen / improve from Jan , so despite being as happy as a pig in **** and proud once again of our side , I would still take 22nd place , get this awful season over and progress further under MM next season when ‘hopefully’ the world is somewhere back to normal.
