Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 1-1 Rochdale

Happy with that

Best defense in the league and very good side.

LCP is a little bit off of being a full time fitness player, so starting him is a gamble. But once we can get 75 minutes out of him without risking injury, he will start

But right now, starting him and playing too many minutes would be a bit risky

You're right there. One issue being, why change a winning team? It's the constant chopping and changing that Kev does that doesn't allow us to build any consistency.

Yep. Wasted points today. Too negative and gave the ball away way to much for 75 minutes. Bonne should start over hopper who unfortunately doesn't have the legs anymore. Why parrilon isn't starting is a mystery, looks forward, carries the ball and looks threatening. Disappointing today but a point is better than nothing

Thought it was an entertaining game against a good side in Rochdale, who will be in the play offs I would think. Bonne came on and changed the game through his running behind. LCP is going to be some player, particularly after a full time pre season. Overall thought our performance was solid.

On a different note, I think some of our fans may need to realise that all teams do pass backwards and sideways at times and it is a perfectly reasonable thing to do when the forward pass is not on...or you have multiple players in front of you...

Bonne completely changed the game when he came on. Injected a bit of bite and effort it paid off in a big way. We were so so limp the moment we conceded and it was turning nasty in the west stand, that goal came at a great time
Yeah someone on the OMT was calling for him to come on early 2nd half, can’t remember who…….??🤔

Bonne made a big difference when he came on and hopefully people can start to see what he offers.
He kept running that flank despite the lino continually putting his flag up.
Thankfully Bonnie's persistence paid off and rather than going backwards because no other Blues player has kept up with him he gambled and fizzed a ball into the box. The gamble paid off and the defender duly put it into his own net.

Parillion looks a baller, some great skill and a sublime pass to Walker. I guess going from part to full time he needs to get his fitness up but we have got some player there.

Rochdale were very good, much better than Halifax. The first half, they marked our wing backs when we had the ball, but then those players squeezed towards the middle when they had the ball, meaning they ran our midfield ragged and always had a man in space to pass to. They bossed us first half. Their goalie could have sat on a deckchair. 2nd half we tightened up and imposed our game more, and they were hanging on in the end. If you watch the Walker chance later, I think it was one of the misses of the season. Chambers-Parillon, I told you they are mightily impressed with him at training. They think he could be something really special. It's been a long time since a new player has made such an immediate impact. And before anyone says Bim Pepple, he took a couple of weeks in training, and then he took off.

We had to match them up in the middle of the park. I dread to think what would have happened had we allowed them to outnumber us in there. Our issue was ollie Coker nowhere near good enough in there.

Sounded like we played OK

Happy with the draw especially going 1 nil down

13 shots on goal with 6 on Target

Roll on Tuesdays nights game and three points please :-)

I be there early doors getting drunk in the Blue Boar
Certainly picked it up notch in the latter stages. By 68 minutes, I think we had managed only 1 shot on target. ( assuming I heard the rather sketchy commentary correctly )

May well have been only 1 on target - Kendell was mighty wasteful in the first half.

Would Bonne and Hopper work as a pairing? With walker or Kendall to come on when 1 gets knackered. Or does it leave us too light weight if both get knackered?

Not sure what formation it'd give us but I would love to see what would happen with Bonne and Hopper up top with Kendall and LCP around them and KAF behind them :Hilarious:

Really good subs.
Leon looks like he could ve a really good Attacking midfielder.
Thought the 1st half was OK, we had lots of corners tried to go on the front foot. We lack the personnel to do the right thing up top. Harry Taylor attempting crosses when we work up the field well is sub optimal to say the least.
As I've said a few times, we need at least 5 upgrades in the 1st 11 in the summer. Look at Rochdale wing backs today, I'd kill for those two in our team.
There no.7 was the best player on the pitch.
All three of there CBs were excellent, especially on the ball, cruyff turns, calm passes. Individually Rochdale had the upper hand all over the show.
However excellent substitutions today, the movement of Bonne and the different kind of players in the middle really gave Rochdale issues. We could have nicked it at the end.

Anyone know where I can pick up a programme for today’s game? I’ve collected every one this year but the vendor wasn’t there today

After having watched that impressive Rochdale side, I genuinely understand why we played the formation we did today, to say I was gutted when I saw we didn’t have 3 up top is an understatement but their #8 #9 would have decimated us in between the lines without an extra man.

I however will say that Coker needs to find a bit of form or he can find himself dropped, we lost too many loose second balls in the midfield and comfortably lost the midfield battle, which with the extra man, was very embarrassing. I’m glad we realised we were never going to beat Rochdale technically and instead stuck it to them with Bonne and Walker. I think Maher was in the right with this one and the subs were spot on.

I’ll take a point all day long as we were completely outclassed and Rochdale looked a real step above where we should be.

Parillion looks like a serious Jude Bellingham type player, looked very classy on the ball and actually drove at Rochdale - no matter how good their passing was, they couldn’t defend him for toffee.

I would love to go at Aldershot though, we definitely need to be starting a 3 up top, Aldershot will be no where near that in terms of quality. This same formation against them is disrespectful to this team.
