Oh ha-di-ha, nothing wrong with White's ability to pass. But of course, you see him play often enough to be able to make such a clueless remark. It's his presence in defence that makes us solid, it's only when he's not there that you realise how vital he is to that defence.
Whilst I don't disagree that our defence is more solid with White in it, I'm not sure anyone can claim that White is a good passer of the ball. Every game sees 4/5 long hoofs down the line which lose possession needlessly.

I for one am very glad that we've brought in competition for his place because he was getting sloppy at times and needed that extra motivation, and he now seems to have stepped up.

No hoofs yesterday, he was looking up and picking out players to hit the long balls to. Bolger on the other hand was hoofing it at times.

He got my 'hoof of the day' a 60 yarder right on to Coker's foot. Other s may see it as an excellent long pass.

Second-half Southend were far more threatening and with Lenny in the centre of midfield, there seemed more cohesion - and more threat.
Not sure about Deegan.
As some said, he's a red card waiting to happen. That beard makes him look more like Vlad the Impaler than a League One player, and subliminally refs have the card in their hands already.
The yellow he earned in the centre of the pitch was daft in the extreme.
Joe the P still can't trap a bin lid, but he worked himself to exhaustion, and if you score - that's job done.
Coker and White? Absolutely pivotal to Blues right now.

Agree with the comments on the ref, excellent performance and also the fourth official, what a contrast to the usual jobsworth tossers that spend 90 minutes telling the managers to stay behind the white line, looked like he was enjoying the banter and did a great job.

Agree- we get enough park officials and when you get good ones you almost don't notice- and then you realise in a way that's the point good officials allow the football and players to be centre stage.

FFS - what is it with people going on about "hoofs" and distribution from defenders....I am willing to believe that any of our squad can play an accurate 40 yard pass..they are professional footballers after all. However playing passes under pressure is a different thing.
It's clearly a tactical instruction...If Full Backs have to clear it, it goes down the line,...if CB's have it they go diagonal...don't blame the players, it's what they are instructed to do.

Ability to play accurate passes out of defence depends entirely on how the opposition are pressing us...as an example as people seem to be getting on JW's back. if he has the ball in the RB position and is under pressure from the opposition would we rather he tried to play it out of defence and lost the ball or lumped it long into the vague area forwards will be expecting it to go?

I seem to remember one particular Bolger basher last year slating him for a) getting caught trying to play out of defence and b) playing too many long balls IN THE SAME MATCH REPORT!

Well, I'm pretty hungover tbh (drinking with Deegan in the Mariners will do that).

Now that my shameless brag is over;

I'd give Pigott MOTM - he's got some fire in his belly now and long may it continue
The centre back pairing was very solid, it;s going to be tough for anyone else to get in there now
I think Mooney needs to be dropped next game for Worrall
Weston had a great game imo and should stay in the team

the problem was that we had the misfortune to have Weston on the end of the best chances. Piggott was unlucky with shot off the line/bar, Weston however was back to his old self, the two chances he missed were dreadful, just hit the the bloody target was the shout around me. People are also forgetting that Bentley made some very good saves. Vale had more shots than us 14/13, more shots on target 4/2 and more corners 5/4. But the important stat is that we scored and kept a clean sheet. Our problem is that we still don't score enough to make life comfortable and when we scored yesterday we still seemed to go into our shell and sit deep inviting vale on to us. I agree it was a good game but either side could have won, against the better teams such as burton and Walsall we have failed to score and conceded. You can only beat what's in front if you and that's what we did yesterday, but far from convincing

agree with pretty much all of that.
i couldn't believe Weston missed near the end of the first half
and i do worry about us getting so deep and inviting pressure

Interesting that on the vale forum they are saying that the trouble after the game was revenge for a vale fan being attached by our fans before the game. I am aware of trouble prior to the game in the car park as well. Anyone else heard about this alleged attack? Hope it's not true, if it is the culprits need to be found and banned. Don't want these sort of idiots associated to our family club!

yep, i saw passed some security talking about a Vale fan who got attacked by one of ours before the game

I think often a lack of options for one or other of the full backs is a by-product of the often lop-sided formation played to appease the fans wanting 2 forwards.

There were 40/50 ****ing suspects after the game. Try taking a swipe at them rather the fans of your own club for a change.

Sorry what do you mean for a change, not aware that I have history for taking a swipe at our fans. All I'm saying if a group of fans attached a loan vale fan before the game then that's not acceptable and certainly might have contributed to the trouble after. I'm in no way condoning the vale fans but by the same token if our fans caused trouble as well then they are no better especially if they picked on a single individual which is what is being said

Does he become a permanent Vale fan in January when the window opens?

I took my daughter up to a university open day at Manchester University on Saturday and was lucky enough on the drive home to be able to tune into BBC Radio Stoke to listen to the commentary of the last 30 minutes.

The commentary team included summariser Ray Williams, who I imagine was in some way linked to PVFC, and during commentary he actually said to the commentator "do you know what I actually hate Phil Brown more than I hate Garner of Preston".

The commentator also said about Southend fans when they kept the ball in the crowd toward the end of the game that they clearly had absolutely no brain cells!

Good to hear their disappointment at the final whistle.

I can see his point. I was dreading conceding in the time added on to added time as a result of this.
