Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 1-0 Oldham Athletic

I’ve always said that those boards are too bright, very hard to pick out the numbers as the whole thing seems to have a haze around the glow of the numbers.
Other than the subs **** up 😂 I liked your mic style 😍
Cataracts! Cataract symptoms include cloudy or blurry vision, difficulty seeing at night, sensitivity to light, halos around lights, and faded colors, especially blue!

So pleased to see Ben Goodliffe getting the praise, he is very good at what he does, very little pace but a threat up front and a tough uncompromising defender at the back, he will run through brick walls for the team, hence all his injuries!
Perhaps theres a little in common there with Luke Prosser, but he’s still the only player I’ve ever seen at the Hall run off a double broken-leg. Legend!

Great support - Southend United fans at Roots Hall (Image: FOCUS IMAGES)

By Chris Phillips. Chief sports reporter.

SOUTHEND United fans have their say on Saturday's 1-0 win against Oldham Athletic.

Feels like a very important win. Dominant first half and then defended excellently in the second. Keenan and Parillon superb, and subs made at the right time too. Need to use the momentum now and grab that last play off place.
@Strutty27

A fantastic, fighting performance against another team up there in the mix for play-offs this season. Clean sheet and a fully deserved goal for KAF The atmosphere in the North Bank today was almost deafening at times… it’s been a very long while since Roots Hall’s been THAT loud!
@OfficialTBV

Really hard fought win I thought we defended really well. Leon and Keenan really gave us that energy and drive and Bonne worked his socks off. I fancy the play offs now, our run in gives us a real chance. Nobody will fancy playing us with the crowds we getting.
@MikeJon30206092

A massive win and a massive performance. We won the physical challenges, we dominated the mid field and we broke with intent. KAF was everywhere. Front two worked tirelessly. Thoroughly deserved win.

Superb performance, Forson & Parillon outstanding again. Bonne & Hopper ran themselves into the ground, but still no goals, and worried Hayes didn't come off his line for the ball. Ref made one mistake , luckily for us but otherwise was very good. On to Sutton with real hope now.
@MatthewYeatts53

Best defensive display I have seen for a while as Hayes didn't have a save to make. Goodliffe had best game so far - KAF and LCP excellent. I just wish we would get more shots off when in promising positions.
@NeilWakefield20

Really solid, professional performance. KAF and LCP were fantastic. If we can find some consistency for the rest of the season then maybe, just maybe.
@DanDobisz

Fantastic atmosphere and a great advert for the National League. Great performance everybody stepped up after the disappointment of Tuesday night. Right in the mix now - exciting end to the season.
@AndrewHackling

A really gritty performance from the boys. Got the important early goal and never looked in too much trouble from that point on. Decent substitutions cancelled out any advantage that Oldham’s changes made too. On we go.
@djmikejolly

Excellent performance to a man. Everybody put in a really solid shift against a tough Oldham outfit. Keenan covered almost every blade of grass, Leon’s turn of pace when he beat the right back was something else, Bonne and Hopper didn’t stop running. We now need this every week.
@Smudgedann

Great atmosphere, Southend just didn’t let Oldham have time on the ball. Appiah Forson was everywhere.

I was at a mate's last night (he supports York) and he put the game on.

I think the debate about the penalty is abit of a red herring, as I thought you could have lost by two or three quite easily.

I know it's only one game but you looked pedestrian in the middle of the park and sat far too deep to help the front players. And Southend had pace and intensity that you didn't really seem able to respond to.

All that said I'm sure you will make the play-offs, and the main issue now will be whether you can get a good draw in your first game. I think you need one - Cup football is slightly different from League footballe and last night I felt you didn't really look like knockout games would suit you.

That would assume you actually only did that one thing because someone lacking experience of the job only noticed that one thing and then told the world you did nothing else all shift.

Given the truth that he only did that one thing all night, I’m amazed he still managed to be part of last night’s dominant, winning side where every small percentage had an impact.

I’m more amazed how he’s continually pulled the wool over the eyes of his highly experienced boss, in training and in games.

Then there’s that team around him who clearly love a colleague who shirks their duties.

Then there’s all those other fans who actually think he does a lot of inconspicuous stuff in the background.

But what the hell are those guys smoking, huh!

This man is a master in deception - a true genius one might say.

(Personally, I just think we’re stronger with him in the side than without him. Best we’ve ever had? Not a chance. We’re national league FFS and for the most part they’re here for a reason. For me, Noor does the unappreciated (by some) dirty work that allows us to play, and gives Kev a bit of confidence to allow the more forward thinking players a level of protection. Every bit a part of last night’s clean sheet.)
Is there also a case to be made that that his unnoticed and unappreciated work frees up and allows LCP to display his magic?

Ha ha...Micky left for an event half time so I took over mic duties.

Problem is, hard to see the board from the South East corner AND the fourth official looked to have put a 9 up! That's why he took it down after 2 seconds as he realised he was wrong.

Perhaps it was a 19 and i coudlmt see the 1. Regarding Hobson, same mistake, saw a 5 but couldn't see the 1 for the 15 from my angle.

Oops!
No worries. Well done for doing it

That Blackpool fan is, in fact, @basilrobbie, a well known Blackpool deviant who lurks on the Zone a fair bit.

I met one of the standout players yesterday after the game, who donated a signed item to me to raffle off to raise funds for South East & Central Essex Mind.

Picked an excellent time to put in one of his best performances at the Club ahead of this 👀

Yes very much so, Luke did well for us and was a little unlucky to be released, but covid came along and the financial implications of that meant several players who we might have kept were released.

Exactly. The reason Noor is a 'favourite' is because even when he is not having the best of games, off the ball he is one of the best we have. His intelligence in cutting off passing lanes and knowing where to be in midfield to nullify the opposition is stuff fans rarely notice but is vital if you want to win football matches.

If we are going to carry on with this system and let Parillon do his thing, you need off the ball grafters like Noor.
