It's all been said really. An awful game, an awful performance, but three points. Like everyone else on this board, I just don't get Soares. Sturrock obviously likes him, but to my mind he offers nothing. I'm more worried about Simpson, because he's clearly got ability but since the Torquay game he's been quite dreadful and it's easy to see why Peterborough want rid of him.

Agree Soares seems to be ineffective IMHO, in terms of Simpson I think we need to remember that he is playing out of position and would be better in the middle. Unfortunately that's not possible while we are playing 4-4-2.

As to the game, fairly average to poor performance all round, and a pretty undeserved 3 points, but I'll take them

Lincoln were awful, unsurprisingly, but we werent much better. Says a lot about the quality in League 2 this year that we are on play-off form... About the rumour of Tilly going there, dont think it would be such a bad move for him tbh. They are poor, so he can only make them better (lets face it, they couldnt get much worse), he is used to no money to play with, and being there doing a good job is a better use of his talents than digging up his vegetables... even if he hasnt settled with Ron over what he owes, depending on his personal finances, he could just walk away and sue RM later for unpaid wages - there must be clauses in his contract that a solicitor could sort out for him.

We should have finished the game off in the first 20 minutes. There are some big positives coming out, Corr, Clohesey, Simpson and Hall are all getting better and better, Timson is a find, and Grant still potential for even more improvement. Not convinced that Sturrock Snr has got the training and tactics right yet, but it seems to be slowly going in the right direction.

Ratings:

Morris 6 - Not really troubled, did everything asked of him.
Clohessy 7.5 - starting to really like him, very solid and has really good delivery.
Gilbert 7 - Played well, led the defence and not a lot got past him.
Mohsni 6 - The weakest link. Way too temperamental for my liking, especially in such a crucial position in the defence. Moments of magic, but far too much wandering off out of position and spiteful off the ball stuff.
Barker 7 - didnt really do anything wrong
Grant 6.5 - didnt look fit to me, thought he was still affected by the knock on Tuesday. Not up to his usual standard
Timlin 7 - I'm impressed with him, but still dont like him in the holding role - I'd like to see him alongside Easton, he could make a good replacement for Granty if he does go in January (although would much rather he didnt...!!)
Simpson 7 - Decent performance
Hall 7.5 MOM by virtue of Corr going off.. Most creative player yesterday, looked threatening and most likely to break through the hoofballers
Corr 8 - thought was playing out of his skin till he got hurt. Really missed him in the 2nd half
Sturrock 7 - Good on the ball, intelligent off the ball, but not able to make an impact.

Subs
Jarvis 6 Didnt make the impact I was expecting from his reputation
Crawford 7.5 Wondered why he didnt come on for Corr, looked lively and most likely to score
Soares 5.5 Cant quite work him out... too much like franny laurant for my liking!

Final word for Drewe Broughton - he is a bit of a cult hero in my house. Good to see he is still as effective now as he was for us... good to see he got a good reception, despite him being a journeyman of questional ability, I still like him a lot!!

Morris - 6.5

Mohsni - 6.5
Gilbert - 6
Simpson - 6.5
Grant - 6.5
Timlin - 7
Hall - 6.5
Corr - 7
Sturrock - 7
Crawford - 6.5
Soares - 6.5
Jarvis - 6.5

TBV - 9 - Sounded really good, got the Hall going.

Morris -7 Did everything asked of him
Clohessy -7 Impresses me with his forward play
Barker -6.5 Solid as ever
Mohsni -7.5 Getting better each week, and that dribble, but please cut out the afters. MOTM just!
Gilbert -6 Ok but lacks Clohessys forward thrusts
Simpson -6 Not happy out on the right
Grant -6.5 Quieter game, still wins his share of tackles, less going forward today
Timlin -6 Some nice passes but did not stand out
Hall -7 A very good addition, some decent crosses, awful corner when there centre half off, straighjt out of play
Corr -7 Missed when went off for his hold up play, scoring regularly which is pleasing.
Sturrock -6.5, Worked hard, but still goes backwards when clean through, please pull the trigger.
Crawford -6, Not a lot of time, but looked positive and lively
Soares -6, Nearly gave it away at the end, fairly quiet
Jarvis - 6, Disappointed with him today, not nearly as lively as at Gillingham and had more time?

Overall promising start, expected Lincolns heads to go down and get a hatful. As usual let our foot off the gas, when Corr went off lost the hold up play and left hanging on for grim death against a poor team. Positive is we did hang on and got three points.

Funny game really - home win, clean sheet means I should be happy - but it was a most unsatisfactory performance. We've played better and lost, which probably says more about Lincoln than us. Here are my ratings:

Morris - 7 (Did everything asked of him)
Clohessy - 8 MoM (Gets better every game - strong in the tackle and threatening going forward)
Barker - 7 (Good captain's performance, organised well)
Mohsni - 6 (At the moment he just looks like an accident waiting to happen to me)
Gilbert - 7 (One of his better performances)
Simpson - 6 (One of his worst performances!)
Grant - 6 (Tactically poor and mostly ineffective)
Timlin - 6 (Too many misplaced passes)
Hall - 7 (Looks a great find)
Corr - 8 (Great target man until he went off)
Sturrock - 7 (Neat and tidy, works tirelessly for the team, good vision but lacks a cutting edge)
Crawford - 7 (Played well for a youngster)
Soares - 5 (No, still don't see why we signed him!)
Jarvis - 7 (Not as good as I'd hoped, but I probably hoped for too much)

TBV 7 - the drummer must have a sore hand after that performance!

Whisper it but could it be because the team's just Grant and 10 others(including Moshni of course)?Still 17 new players take time to gel, innit? Must have been fun to see young Harry Crawford come on as sub. yesterday. Local lads are just good enough for bit part appearances as subs apparently, cf Johnny Herd against Morcambe.

It was Grant and ten others last season too.

A strange game, where once our first goal went in I thought either we are going to get a hatfull, or lose this. Neither happened (which is why I' m not a pundit)
But I did find myself getting very bored for long periods, especially second half. League two eh? Nice to see Drewe again, and he hasn't improved with age.

Morris 6. Still worries me a bit, doesn't come and claim when he should. A la Darryl who took a lot of stick for it.
Clohessey 6.5 Better than I thought he would be, and getting better.
Barker 7. Assured performance.
Moshni. 6.5 Worryingly brilliant. Mazy run second half, they didn't know where he was going....he didn't know himself. Been said before, needs to defend, and only do this sort of thing when we are 3-0 up. Also lucky not to be red carded. I Might have subbed him for Coughlan with 15 to go
Gilbert 6. Did ok and was effective
Simpson 6.5 Good first half - faded second
Grant 6. Not as effective as previous performances. Got away with a handball too I think.
Timlin 6.5 extra half point for very good first half.
Hall 7.5 MoM just for that cross in the first half, and a pretty good display.Didn't think he deserved to be subbed, but understand the need to try to curtail Jarrett.
Corr 7.5 Well taken goal, just what you want from a centre forward. Must admit I am becoming more of a fan. We certainly didn't look as threatening when he laft the field.
Sturrock 6. Looked like he took a knock too, and I thought he was coming off before Corr. Good vision, and some good passing from someone who is also better than I thought.

Jarvis 5. Don't know what all the hype is about. Quite an agressive player I thought.
Soares 5. Still don't know what he brings to the party. Brought on for a specific job, though not sure he done it.
Crawford 5.5 Had one shot on sight of goal that he should have done better with, but the build up to that strike was good.

Blue voice 7 (could only hear a few songs from my position in the east green)

MOM Jarrett 8 (Lincoln) best player on the field with the ball at his feet, played a little too deep to be very effective, as all his play had no end product. By far Lincoln's best player on the day. If we could sign someone like him, I don't think Soares would get in the squad.

Morris - 7
Clohessy -7
Barker -7
Mohsni -7
Gilbert -6
Simpson -5 Wasted on the wing!
Grant -6
Timlin -6
Hall -6
Corr -7
Sturrock -6
Crawford -6 Worked hard, and put some life back in to the Southend performance
Soares -4
Jarvis -4 Lots of pace but what else did he do? Might be because Lincoln had a very fast CB

Hall 7.5 MoM just for that cross in the first half, and a pretty good display.Didn't think he deserved to be subbed, but understand the need to try to curtail Jarrett.
I thought Ryan had a pretty good game yesterday. Another one whose contract we should be looking at extending pretty soon perhaps before others start to notice him. Also interesting to see in Rob Craven's U18 match report that his brother played for us yesterday.

Morris - 6
Clohessy - 7
Barker - 6.5
Mohsni - 7 (Won so much - with Barker sweeping up behind it gave him some licence to attack the ball)
Gilbert - 7
Simpson - 5 (Tidy player but doesn't work hard enough)
Grant - 6
Timlin - 7.5 (Thought he was cack vs Morecambe, but was class yesterday)
Hall - 6 (Great cross for the goal, but gave the ball away far to easily after that)
Corr - 7.5 (We missed him when he went off, and good goal)
Sturrock - 5 (I'm not anti-Sturrock though - he just didn't get into the game yesterday!)
Crawford - 7 (Caused problems and chased well when he came on)
Soares - 4.5
Jarvis - 5 (Disappointing)

First game of the season for me, and is was exciting just to be back at the Hall. Poor game, we dominated the first half and should have finished Lincoln off, their first half display was one of the worst I've seen by a professional team. Second half we flagged and lincoln came into it, glad to hang onto the 3 points. But to be honest I've seen far worse Southend teams than that. What cheered me was the fact paul Sturrock said that was our worst home performance, because we can't be too bad if that was our worst - you can spot the difference between a bad team, and a decent team playing badly and we were the latter.

Morris - Little to do, in the saves he did make he was a little Flavs-esque.
Clohessey - Impressed me alot. Got forward well, defended well enough.
Gilbert - League 2 clogger, ok defensively but got turned too often, not attacking just hoofed it out.
Mohsni - Great in the air, really impressed to begin, near end of 1st half saw the "bambi on ice" aspect to his game. Good prospect but needs the experience of games to improve.
Barker - Solid if unspectacular, good experience & command. When things were going well 1st half his partnership with Mohsni looked solid as a rock, but 2nd half they were (as a pair) too often exposed.
Timlin - When Southend were on top in the first half, he looked ice cool, played around the ball around beautifully but 2nd half he offered the defence no protection with lincoln running through him time and again.
Grant - Imperious first half, lots of intelligent balls into the strikers, ran the show. But as others have said ball chases to much, second half this really showed as he tired and left the defence exposed.
Simpson - Failed to see creative midfielder everyone has been harping on about, was this just a one off poor game?
Hall - MOM - Best winger I've seen at the Hall for years. Took players on put crosses in, inc a peach of a cross for Corr's goal. Should have scored 2nd half from Jarvis' knock down.
Corr - Very impressive. Held the ball up well, gambled in the box. Took his goal well, battled well even after he picked the injury up. As others have said it's no coincidence that Southend went downhill 2nd half after Corr's injury. ball wouldn't stick upfront.
Sturrock Jnr - Went along with open mind, hoping to see the hardworking intelligent player that has changed many people's minds. He didn't turn up. Seemed aimless even before he picked up the injury in the 1st half. I've still seen worse mind.
The Subs.
Jarvis - This was his big chance. Showed glimpses of what he's capable of, a delightful knock down for Hall to run onto for example. But pulled wide too much leaving the injured Sturrock too isolated in the middle.
Crawford - He did what Jarvis should have, took his chance with both hands. Ran at players, made a nuisance of himself, got shots away. Southend actually improved after he came on.
Soares - utterly pointless.

For the Pringello-

Morris - 6.5
Clohessey - 7
Gilbert - 5.5
Mohsni - 6.5
Barker - 6.5
Grant - 7
Timlin - 6.5
Simpson - 5.5
Hall - 8
Corr - 7.5
Sturrock - 5.5
Jarvis - 6
Crawford - 7.5
Soares - 4

Blue Voice - 7.5 Superb first half chaps, flagged in the second but who can blame you, difficult to keep up the enthusiasm during that game.

Lol.Plus ça change,plus c'est la même chose?

I guess so. I just don't get this fixation with this team being so different to the last lot. Neither had much of an attachment to us, both were filled with players who won't be recalled as all time SUFC greats, both had players who were only here for the cash.

The team in 05/06 had a core of players from the Essex/London region. Last year's didn't. I'm not going to get misty-eyed over the fact that local lad Jean Francois-Christope isn't here anymore.

I'm pretty sure that you're exempting Adam from this list though.
