This was a typical Division 2 match which we just about deserved to win. However, a 1-0 win over one of the worst sides seen at Roots Hall does not inspire much confidence. I still predict that the current squad will enable us to finish about half way in this division. The next few league games against teams nearer the top will give us all a better clue. As it stands, we have won four matches, three of which are against the bottom 3 teams in the table!!!

3 points good - match poor

We should have had this game finished in the first half as Lincoln were poor & didn't look capable of scoring two goals but instead it was a tepid performance that meant we were hanging on & saved by the bar & 2 goal-line clearances

Morris - 6
Clohessy - 7
Barker - 6
Mohsni - 6
Gilbert - 6
Simpson - 6
Grant - 6
Timlin - 7
Hall - 7
Corr - 7
Sturrock - 6
Crawford - 7
Soares - 5
Jarvis - 5

I was absolutly bored s****ess watching yesterday, so much so I actually fell asleep for at least 5mins.
Still a win is a win and 3 points gained.
I still seem to be having trouble connecting with the team, and why I just cannot seem to fathem out. Anyone else feeling this also

8 of our 10 games have been against the sides which are currently in the bottom 10. All of which have been cack!

Whisper it but could it be because the team's just Grant and 10 others(including Moshni of course)?Still 17 new players take time to gel, innit? Must have been fun to see young Harry Crawford come on as sub. yesterday. Local lads are just good enough for bit part appearances as subs apparently, cf Johnny Herd against Morcambe.

I think we've seen enough of the season now to start making some informed predictions on the season. In all honesty this is a shocking division and a noticable gulf between the standard of football and L1. I also think we'll need to get used to the yo-yo of Euphoria of an unexpected result against the likes of Torquay plus the gloom of losing to dross such as Morecambe. I refuse to believe we will finish any lower than mid-table and I'll take that quite happily. However if we are top 10 at Christmas I'd also like to think we could lay our hands on some dosh to splash out on a player or two and then have a genuine push for the play-offs or better.

All in all a less than convincing 90 minutes but a very handy 3 points and a little unbeaten strea

I'm not sure I agree... most teams that go up and down between league 1 and 2 and league 2 and the conference tend to stay there indicating that the standard perhaps is similar. There is however a vast difference in style of football, which in this league and (and always has been) ugly. It's difficult getting out of this league playing football.

Nope, it feels like my team, I know who all the players are, I indulge myself into every game and thoroughly enjoy them all.

Is not the poor style of football because all the passing teams get promoted out of the 4th division? Teams have to be able to mix it and handle the physical side, but if they can do that and play football, I think they tend to do rather well.

Your not alone Tinks

It's all been said really. An awful game, an awful performance, but three points. Like everyone else on this board, I just don't get Soares. Sturrock obviously likes him, but to my mind he offers nothing. I'm more worried about Simpson, because he's clearly got ability but since the Torquay game he's been quite dreadful and it's easy to see why Peterborough want rid of him. As for Paterson and Spencer, it's clear that something not related to footballing ability is going on. I'm no great fan of either, but not to feature at all in three straight games (and to have no place in the last reserve game either) calls to mind the shenanigans with Foran. I guess the obvious answer must be that they have publicly questioned Sturrock's motives in playing his son ahead of them. If so, Sturrock senior has created the situation himself - a manager should never have his son at the club. It's only ever worked once in my memory and the Cloughs were hardly normal characters! As to marks:-

Morris - 7
Clohessy - 8
Mohsni - 6
Barker - 8
Gilbert - 7
Simpson - 4
Grant - 6
Timson - 6
Hall - 7
Corr - 8
Sturrock - 6

Jarvis - 5
Soares - 4
Crawford -7

I'd say it's probably more down to keeping them available for a loan deal, as if they were to get injured/cup-tied then it significantly reduces their appeal to clubs willing to take them on. Whereas in the reserve game, we were taking a look at trialists to occupy their roles within the squad.

It'd be unfair to to pass too great a judgement, but Crawford's inclusion ahead of them tells me that either Sturrock rates what he offers higher than Pato/Spencer, or his attitude in going out on loan for sharpness has impressed him.

Morris - 7 = standard
Clohessy - 7 - good performance, looked in control at the back and provided an attacking threat
Mohsni - 6 occasional moments of brilliance, offset by occasional moments of madness.
Barker - 7 - led defence well
Gilbert - 8 Best of the defence looked solid,
Simpson - 7 - i thought he had a reasonable game did ok shame he always misses the ball when he goes to head it
Grant - 5 - one of his more disappointing games gave possession away too much
Timson - 6 = effective but nothing more than this
Hall - 8 - My MOM ahead of corr. Looked threatening passed well, set up goal and provided most of our threat in absence of corr
Corr - 8- took his goal well, we looked weaker when he left the pitch
Sturrock - 6 - again efficient, good on the ball but never threatened

Jarvis - 5 - why do we pump it for him to run on to when hes not actually that quick?
Soares - 4 disappointing
Crawford -7 looked lively, offers something different to rest of our front line

Morris 7 - One smart tip over in the second half but other than that he had nothing to do.

Clohessy 7 - I really like this guy. He's calm and composed on the ball and a lot better defensively than Simon Francis.

Barker 7 - As above. Does the simple things.

Mohsni 6 - Agree with what's been said about his petulance and chasing everything. Need to cut that out or he's gunna burn himself out.

Gilbert 5 - Got caught a couple of times, some awful delivery aswell.

Simpson 6 - Quiet day for him, think he's more comfortable in the middle.

Grant 6 - Another quiet day but he does win us a lot of free kicks.

Timlin 7 - Got stuck in well. Unlucky with the free kick.

Hall 8 - MOM for me. Could understand taking him off though, when Corr had gone off there was nothing for him to aim at.

Corr 7 - "we need a 20 goal man" well I think we've got him. 5 in 10 is great so far. Keep putting in those sort of crosses and he'll head them in all day long. Hopefully his injury isn't too serious and he'll be fit for Tuesday.

Sturrock 6 - I am a fan, he does all the donkey work but nothing went for him yesterday. Kept holding his hamstring, probably should have come off earlier.

Subs:
Jarvis 6 - Was good to get a decent look at him. The boy has good pace and strength, would like to see him up top with Corr.

Crawford 6 - Won a few headers, he has a good leap for a small guy.
Much more of a physical presence than Paterson.

Soares 1 - Did nothing. He gets a mark for making it onto the pitch.
