Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0-0 Braintree Town

Hmm some overreaction here but I guess that’s understandable as it was a big crowd with a lot of expectation and well …. let’s face it the play offs are done.

It again shows the faults we’ve had all season, failure to get it forward quick enough or effectively enough and some quite frankly **** crosses. Plus the lack of a real clinical finisher. Teams just know how we’re going to play so they pack the middle. Couple of times first half Leon (and Walker) caught them out with direct runs but second half they just marked us solidly and used ****house tactics to run down the clock.

I’ve said before, unless we find ways to beat these teams we’re staying put. We’ll probably beat Ebbsfleet comfortably now, as it’s too late.

I think Parillon would be better through the middle than on the left personally
Parillon has the makings of a superb little player but he’s still very raw. Hopefully he can push on as he was causing them problems in the first half and offering something different. He made a few careless passes and lost possession in key areas but I guess that’s the risk you take, trying to take players on. I like him.

We could have played for another hour and we still wouldn't have scored. Severe lack of pace and quality in the final third.
We've got four strikers who all look like they would get no more than 5/6 goals a season.
If we don't score an early goal, then too often you know what's coming. We just can't break teams down who sit in and defend deep.
The worrying thing is that Kev thinks that this squad only needs a little tinkering.
For me, we need 7 or 8 new signings to replace those currently in the starting eleven.
Substitutions seem premeditated to me on the whole, rather than being proactive. Everything we do is in front of teams. There is no variation. It's the same week after week. If I'm being honest, I dont see that changing. The playing style seems ingrained in everyone. At times we look like we're trying to walk the ball into the net with nobody other than Leon wanting to take the bull by the horns.

Kev's got until November time for me to prove he's got what it takes to get us promoted. We need to be in and amongst it otherwise the unthinkable will have to happen.

I’m tired of the embargo excuse. That isn’t the reason we’ve picked up one point from our last two games. It isn’t the reason why Kev continually plays negative, defensive first football with little to no risks taken.
That 'negative' label has become a cliche.
Who plays football where you don't try to score? For the record, we were taking all kinds of risks at the end. That's why Goodliffe was maybe lucky to get away with a trip as Lisbie (?) was on his way.

I think the 'style' is dictated by player limitation. No pace and no control; but I agree we need a major overhaul if the budget allows.

Over 9000 Southend fans there today and we were rewarded with that.

For my match review, please refer to last week’s PMT as it was same **** different week.

Sideways, backwards and completely out of ideas. Partially because some are not good enough, partially because the way we shape up is so passive.

This squad doesn’t need small tweaks over the summer, it needs a major overhaul like Barnet had, somewhere between 8-12 fresh faces.

As for the management, I’m still not convinced in their ability to read games or make dynamic changes.

They should get a fair crack next season but if we’re not improved by autumn, time for a change IMO.

Just on the train home. Season ticket holder but first game in 3 or 4.

A passionate and heroic display.

I find it amazing that we don't have any players who can cross a football nor do our coaches teach the players how to cross.

Players don't improve.

I see no coached passages of play.

This team are the worst I have ever seen.

Anyone who is happy with today, more power to you.
I'll never be happy with a nil nil draw with Braintree.

Credit to Kevin Maher for making such attacking subs.

Sadly, he couldn't sub himself.

Also, when I get home, I'm going to contact the Guinness book of records as I think I saw a world record today!

A manager with his hands in his tracksuit pockets on a hot day for the longest combined time.

Congratulations Kev. I feel a certificate on its way.

There was once a wrestler, sadly no longer with us by the name of Owen Hart. His catchphrase is apt for today.

"Enough is enough and it's time for a change"

God I hate watching Southend united at the moment.

A moment from Taylor summed us up for me.

In the second half, in the last 15 minutes, he gets the ball, just inside our own half, has two options one to Morton ahead to his left and Gus ahead to his right, both in space.

So he turns them both down, stops turns inside and plays the ball across Akinde to Goodliffe slightly behind and to the left of him and immediately starts points and screaming at him to get the ball forward.

That sums up the mentality of this team. No-one with exception of Leon, wants to take responsibility for anything, but demands it of others.

Winners don't have that mentality and until the players look at themselves and change it, OR get shipped out, for players who can own a match, we are stuck in this league forever and a day. Our stay could make Wrexham's 13 or 14 years look like the blink of an eye at this rate.
