Southend to be approached

Manager
As some of may have read my post nearly 2wks ago regarding Ince going to Blackburn.

My same friend who told me this, who works at MK Dons in coaching, has now told me this morning that Ince's desk is being cleared and MK Dons will officially move in to ask for permission to talk to Steve Tilson on Monday or Tuesday morning, when Ince confirms his move to Ewood Park.

The package they are offering Southend could see compensation rise to £750k for Tilly over the next year, if MK get to the play offs. Also a 1.5m tranfers kitty will be available to the new manager and a 4 year contract.

What will Ron do??????

Slam the phone down or talk

Apologies in advance if my inside news isn't wanted before I get moaned at again..................

Tilly is indeed MK Dons first choice and they have had him on their radar for a few months now incase Ince did up and leave. Ron knows this and has done for some time. At the moment there is very, very little chance he'd go though and an even smaller chance we'd let them talk to him officially.

Like I said before, as much as Tilly loves SUFC, MK Dons are a real up and coming 'sleeping giant' - and where the Norwich job would have been great for Tilly, there is a history and pressure to deliver.

At MK Dons, Tilly could MAKE history as its such a young club and with a great stadium, ambitious chairman and money to spend, I think it could be really appealing to Tilly.

I'm pretty worried TBH...

Me too.
Not only COULD this be a potentially interesting role to Steve, I worry how he'd react if Ron categorically refused permission for the MK Donuts to speak to him.

Still, on the bright side, it's highly unlikely we would get lumbered with Peter Taylor this time around!

If and only IF this turns out to be true ANDtilly does go are there any ideas on who we should bring in o become manager ?

Manager with proven track record (maybe not a popular choice with some people) would be Ian Holloway

Unproven manager with SUFC links, how about Chris Powell or even make Spinner an offer he can't refuse to return from Oz?

No chance!!! We have a great chairman Who also wants to take this club forward, with a new stadium coming??? and fan base growing..Things are on the up at Southend So i can't see tilly going anywhere!!

Holloway would be a great choice. I've always liked Martin Allen too, but his stock seems to have dipped recently...

Totally agree, but lets face it, something big aint gonna happen at this club realistically for the next 5 years.

Yeah the stadium might be built, but we still wont have the financial power to move ahead for some time, if ever. Only chance we have if is a millionaire business man came in and we did a Peterboro or Mk sytle surge, we could never give Tilly a £2 million transfer fund.

Cardiff have admitted they have to sell every year just to pay wages, ie Ramsey joining arsenal.

Time Tilly might not wanna waste, and the MK Dons job is an attractive prospect as much as i hate to say it, they could generate crowds of over 30,000 easily in the right circumstances, we would struggle to do that with the london clubs nicking our support.

And 750k for Tilly i reckon Ron would take it if he could bump that up to 1 million over the next year, who wouldnt in our position.

The trouble is that Tilly could stay loyal now but if you start the season badly and people get on his back he could be out of job stranded. The better jobs will go to people with bigger reputations than his and where doe he end up?
Like someone has said you have a bright future but it will take time to realise. Its hard to expect anyone in the current game to stay loyal for any period of time when 10 years is a long time to stay in a job. Does that make any sense

If MK Dons were still playing at the old ground, would they be deemed a 'sleeping giant' ? No !!

MK Dons look big because of the new ground , a new ground can win many friends, who are also on the verge of a new ground ? Us !!!

MK Dons are no sleeping giant, MK Dons may be going somewhere, but Tilly is bright enough to realise that they are NO bigger than Southend United , just because they had Ince does not make them bigger than us , they were maybe 'bigger' than Macclesfield , but what makes them 'bigger' than us !!

I keep putting bigger in ' ... ' because I cannot work out why people are calling them bigger . Please enlighten me ...

There's no way this will happen! Neither Ron or Tilly would want this to happen

The person on this board with the best track record on Football Manager.

Don't joke
Theres a bloke in LLL, Leeds Leeds Leeds our propaganda magazine :offtopic: ,that has applied for and been rejeected by 50 odd football clubs for the job of manager. These include premiership clubs, national teams everyone. His main experiance was winning several cups on football manager but he remains convinced he could do a job for the jobs he applied for :dim:

They are not bigger, but the prospect of the place is. We are never gonna nick fans of the london clubs.

Mk would get 30,000+ crowds easy, they had 48,000+ ticket applications for the ldv, they have no local or london clubs to compete with, and all that means money and money unfortunatly means sucess in football and Tilly wants a sucessful career im sure, has he done all he can with southend? promotions, ldv finals, play off final and more great, but here he is arguing over 20k with wolves for Mulgrew, cos we have a budget we cannot overload.

Completely agree! People seem to forget they were in the division below us last season!

Player for player we are without doubt better than MK Dons! Why would he want to join them. They would need to spend £2m just to get as good as players in!

Manly in Sydney vs UK. No contest. Manly where Spinner now lives is a beautiful & Thorpe Bay-esque place to live. When I spoke to Spinner less than two years ago, he couldn't wait to get out there. Nice thought though.

IF this happened I would want an establish manager, not a sentimental punt on an old boy coming back. Southend have moved on too much to have sentimental managers like Booby (sic) Moore, Peter Taylor & I can't bring myself to mention the other name!!

Tilly has been a great servant to the club and if he were to leave it would be best on good terms with the fans than having people hurling abuse at him, like the others we have had. i always said i wouldn't want to stand in his way if the oppotunity came along, we have had the best time of it over the past few seasons and maybe it is time to move on, MK dons have a fantastic new stadium and have got the chance to do what we did in previous seasons, we've been on the verge of having a new ground for 15 years or more still ain't got nowhere with that. i say if he goes he goes with all our best wishes and will hopefully return later in his career.
