Southend at this level

You've gotta laugh sometimes...

Moderators are all too happy to sit back and let threads discussing the merits and demerits of the posts of CS J or Wiggy run for pages, becoming highly personal in the process. Yet fingers are wagged at me if I make an observation about the way that Col Ewe fans seem to want to conduct their rivalries, supported by some and opposed by others, lest we hurt one of our guests' delicate feelings. And all that after I'd stood accused of nannying for proposing that we take a stand against anti-Romany chanting!

Well I'm sorry but I enjoyed this forum more before the Col Ewe fans took up residence. Nobody's obliged to agree - indeed you can disagree as vehemently as you like, but it just happens to be my view. I think it's a pretty mild one compared to much of what's been spewed about CS J and Wiggy seemingly with the mods' blessing.

I also have a view on what kind of image it projects of Colchester United F.C. for their employees to be sticking their oars into other clubs' messageboards during office hours, but in this climate I'd probably be banned for stating it. Suffice to say that I'd be amazed if it goes on at any other club at this level.

Snide childishness over. ;)

You're all completely wrong by the way.

West Ham finished 3rd in the old First Division in 1985/86, thus making them the highest placed Essex club.

After all, we all know Southend is West Ham territory and Colchester should be. We've been told often enough.

Sussex, well I can see I'm not going to convince you otherwise, so I'll keep my head down for the time being.

I come in peace - and with intrigue - and find a quick scout across the boards as being a useful break between doing bits of work (most of my posts are within lunch hours/after work anyway). All of my deadlines are met, and a number of awards have been collected for said work, so alls good.

In future, I'll post after 5pm though ;)

Good to hear. As Tim Lovejoy used to say "know your limits." Though if you were to insert superglue up Mr. Lovejoy's nostrils, mouth, ears and bottom I'd give you the freedom of Southend. And a Curly Wurly.

You don't have to do that if you don't want to.

I'm happy to clarify that I'm merely stating my own opinions. I'm not saying that anyone can or can't post, and I couldn't enforce it even if I did want to. On here we've had threads discussing the merits and helpfulness of people being pro-Tilly, anti-Tilly, pro-West Ham, anti-West Ham, and so on. I just find it bordering on the surreal that anti-Col Ewe sentiment should attract censure on a Southend messageboard!

I would bet my last pound that if McScriven spent part of his working day on Cu-fcchat.com pointing out how many points we were ahead, what records we were about to break, etc while you were struggling (all at a different point in time obviously!), that it might be deemed a little unnecessary by some of your fans however it was worded.

I can see that some of our own fans disagree with me and I respect their right to do that, but I don't think that what I've said even comes close to some of the polemic that's been tolerated in the past. Either way, I apologise if I've overly offended you.

:p

Apology accepted and, likewise, hope no genuine offence given.

Like Scriv and his move into the job, I was a fan previously (and still am!), so not quite sure which of my two hats I'm here with. I would guess the latter, but am also conscious of my 'responsibilities' and happy to answer any points of note on a professional basis as well.

He, along with other fans, have been over to our board and it's been good fun - I'm sure our fathers/grandfathers would have liked the opportunity for similar banter over the years :)

Good luck on Saturday - we've got Hull in a fortnight so I'd be happy to hear what you made of them.

He's obviously not seen you after a few bevvies then Mr :)

And no, Glasgow, you've been very accommodating. It's good to have a debate with Southend fans without resorting to being snide and childish.

As I said earlier in the week, it's the mono braincell type of Col U fans I don't welcome here, the sort who will no doubt be on here a lot over the next few days as the school holidays come around!

Any football supporter, especially of "small less fashionable" clubs of the like we support should stick together, even if they are fierce rivals on the pitch. Certainly as a means of solidarity against 2 evils in modern football. The moneybags 5 in the Premiership as well as those so called "real" fans of former big clubs who seem to think they are owed success, e.g. Spurs, Ipswich, Forest!!!
