Didn't look offside at first view and clearly not offside on the highlights. Makes Prosser's yellow look even more stupid.

I was sitting in the east blacks and had no idea at the time what Prosser was complaining about as it was nowhere near offside perhaps he was angry at getting beaten in the air for that goal and also the third i think.

Just seen the "highlights". I can see no issue at all with the first goal. Not even nearly offside.

Interesting - you're absolutely right from the highlights it looks a ridiculous claim! However I think there may have been another player involved in the move somewhere off camera who one of our defenders was tracking. Certainly everyone around us at the south end of the west stand thought it was off at the time and the immediate vociferous protests of Prosser and Coker would also seem to indicate they clearly thought there was an issue too. There were a couple of tweets at the time which made it sound like there was a handball claim, although I can't see that either!

Think the handball claim was from the player who crossed the ball, before he did one of ours slide in and the ball came up and hit him before he went on to cross it.

At first view I thought it hit him on the body and not the arm, and even if it did then the linesman was on the otherside on the pitch and wouldn't have had a chance of saving it!

This wont show on the highlights, there was a cross a few seconds earlier where they were screaming at the linesman, we cleared and then they crossed again . I beleive that they were still complaining about the first infridgement which i 'assume' they believe was offside

I think some people have allowed the result to cloud their judgement. We were the far superior team in the first half

Did we actually manage a shot first half?

I'm surprised by the marks Clifford is getting. First goal was down to him getting out of position on the halfway line. He played a truly horrendous pass that led to another goal, missed a golden opportunity when he had just the keeper to beat from 8 yards and played a groin high ball to Woodrow when anything at head height or below the knee would have been an easy goal (although credit for getting in those positions to be able to screw it up in the first place). In between the midfield generally went missing - take their third(?) goal. I don't know how much this was him or Payne but there was acres of space down their left for their third with the central midfield failing to cover it. That midfield was brutal defensively and he was a big part of that. It's no wonder that he has to keep on diving in on tackles as he's out of position so much. I know he's young, but he's a year older than Leonard (who was badly missed).

Right after watching the highlights...

Smith 4 - three he couldn't do much about, 2 he could have held onto but the defence made it extremely hard for us. Hasn't been bad for us but probably needs to move to another club to get away from our fans. Done well enough in the first half.

White 5 - Seemed out of position a lot and struggled at times.
Phillips 5 - To many long wasted balls and struggled at the back.
Prosser 4 - Worst I have seen Luke play, I know he will bounce back though.
Coker 6 - Best attacking outlet at times. Good cross for the first goal. Struggled in defence though.

Payne 6 - Good dribbling and passing but too lightweight, needs more time to develop (at our club please)
Clifford 6 - Energetic but didn't bring much to the party.
Hurst 6.5 - Mixed game for Hurst but better than most!
Straker 6 - Thought he was having a decent game in the first half, got involved and was all over the pitch (good or bad you decide).
Timlin 5 - Tried to keep it simple but seemed rusty.

Reid 6 - Tried hard and held up the ball okay for his height etc... felt sorry for him going off, we needed to change formation at half time and Brown didn't.

Woodrow 7.5 - Starting to show signs he could do a job here. shame the score ruined his big day.
Atkinson 6 - Didn't do too much.
Corr - Why?

I can see why Brown picked this team but I can't see why he didn't change the formation, although he did notice that we needed a bit more height up front and this did work....I still think we could have afforded to go 4 4 2.
I am not going to get on his back too much, as I personally don't think managers actually make too much of a difference now days. Hopefully he will learn some lessons from tonight though about himself and the players.

Spot on! We missed his energy, his passing ability, his covering, his defending and his leadership, which is so readily overlooked with him being only 21.

I'm not criticising Brown for not starting him or the other 'first teamers', but felt he should have come on when it was becoming obvious that we were losing the mid-field as you rightly state. I'm sure he and Atkinson would have steadied the ship and supplied the balls that Woodrow could do something with, and we would now be looking to see who we would have in the next round.

...it needed Leonard or Atkinson on from the start there with Payne introduced at the kind of time Atkinson was.

So obvious to some of us, why not to Brown?

After the alledged "car park" abuse....I'm pretty sure he'll be happy to get away.

Home fans never took to him ( Brentford aside), whereas Mr Bentley walks on hallowed ground, faultless according to some posters?

I wonder what will happen if dan makes a error or 2 on saturday?

If he drops two like Smith it will get mentioned.

That said as Ive said before he isnt perfect and if Smith was in goal for the goals Bentley conceded there would be people on here analysing what Smith did wrong.

That aside what is clear now is Bentley is our no.1 and cant see any reason why he wouldnt be.
