What a game? If Brown wanted to know more about some of his players then this was a goldmine. Reid< I doubt has a future, very poor, no heart, half an effort and always off the pace. And Woodrow showed him what he should be doing SO clearly; well done to the lad. Smith and Prosser?????? clueless, buffoons, This game was there to be won except for the lapses between these two; 66% down to Smith and 34% to Prosser. And again WHITE played his own game well BUT captain and leader? Most over players did ok but first half we had no forward threat as Reid was a non playing bystander and in 2nd half we had no left centre back or goalkeeper..............a slight exaggeration.................but not far from the truth.

Timlin worked hard, won ball back a lot and also made a lot of poor passes; he got better as game went on and he is not perfect but he has heart and works hard. Most of the midfield were ok if a little light weight and seemed unsure of style of play the team was meant to be playing as too often 1-2s and overlaps didn't work through poor timings.

I thought Jack Payne also played well but does seem to be a bit lightweight when tackled. This wasn't a terrible game, just an awful 8 minutes that completely destroyed the game plan. Not sure who to blame, just better to forget it and move on I think. Up to that point I thought we were playing well although Reid was having a mare.

Smith 3 - Started well coming for a couple of crosses, but goals 4 and 5 were awful mistakes

White 5 - Struggled against the tricky Hines.
Prosser 3 - Lost his man (Saah) for the second goal. I kept an eye on him after that and he lost him every single time. In fairness to Prosser, Saah was dancing around and daggers were being clever to block Prosser off, but we are screaming out for a Saah and not a Prosser.
Phillips 4 - No howlers, but gave the ball away everytime
Coker 6 - Did well for our first goal, but caught under the ball for the daggers 3rd

Payne 8 - Played really well, causing problems on numerous occasions. I can't help but think that in a 4-3-3 he should be one of the attackers rather than in the midfield 3 though
Clifford 7 - Had a great first half closing down all over the pitch and distribution was good. Had less influence after his booking though
Timlin 6 - Some good work in midfield but guilty of giving the ball away poorly on occasion

Straker 5 - Started lively enough and didn't do too much wrong, but not heavily involved in the game
Hurst 4 - Woeful distribution all night.
Reid 4 - Started brightly, but after about 15 minutes seemed completely unable to hold the ball up. Maybe trying too hard to create when he just needed to recycle the ball.

Subs
Woodrow 8 - Couldn't have contributed much more
Atkinson 4 - Did nothing apart from a deserved booking for a stupid tackle
Corr N/A

Ref 8 - Barely put a foot wrong.

Probably not as poor a performance as the scoreline suggests. We probably have too many footballers in the team though - need a few more battering rams who will join in the battle at set pieces. We missed Corr at those tonight.

Very strange game. Southend were the better side first half, even without a decent striker. D&R seemed to score with every attack. Absolute shambles at the back. Just shows you can't play without 2 fit central defenders. Prosser and Smith, Oh dear.
Once again, defending and man marking from set plays an embarrassment.
What is it, some sort of game to see how many free headers we can give away, and how many players we can leave unmarked in the penalty area?

Smith - 2 (first half was good and came off his line on a couple of occasions, less said about 2nd half the better)
White - 4
Prosser - 3
Phillips - 5
Coker - 6 (cracking cross for the goal)
Timlin - 6
Clifford - 7 (apart from one bad pass and the yellow card thought he was very good)
Payne - 7 (exciting prospect!)
Hurst - 6
Straker - 4
Reid - 5 (didn't have a chance playing up front on his own - doubt we will see him soon though)

Subs
Woodrow - 8 (changed the game, albeit for 5 minutes)
Corr - N/A
Atkinson - N/A

Looked like we were playing 4-1-4-1 in the first half and Reid had no chance of holding anything up on his own when balls were just being hit over the top and down the channels.

For 5 minutes in the 2nd half we played very well and got the 2 goals, but defending was shocking and we were punished. 4 goals conceded in 13 minutes and still can't defend set pieces.

Is that the same Woodrow that everyone is saying is poor? Was far from it and scored 2 good goals. Typical striker goals too.

Smith will be on the bench for a while now, at least 2 were down to him although Prosser didn't help one of them!

Bringing on Corr with 4 minutes to go when 5-2 down, pointless sub of the season?

Very strange game. Southend were the better side first half, even without a decent striker. D&R seemed to score with every attack. Absolute shambles at the back. Just shows you can't play without 2 proper central defenders. Prosser always goes to pieces when he hasn't got a better partner beside him, he just can't man up.
Once again, defending and man marking from set plays an embarrassment.

One of us watched a different game....is Mark Phillips not a proper central defender??

I personally blame that Mohsni bloke. Ruined the whole game, lunatic. Absolute liability. Chance after chance, how many more does he want?!?!

**** sake.

Also, selling the "programme" for a quid was a joke. Sounds like a good deal until you get it and realise it is basically just a poster with an added article from the manager.
